It always made more sense that it'd be a speculative shot based on where Clint expected the keeper would be rather than a speculative cross from the 18... Yeah, that sounds a lot like Clint. Or not. But, in that video, after Clint received the first ball and laid it off, about 8 seconds in, his head jerks around in what seems an attempt to look at the keeper's positioning. I rewound it over and over and it certainly looks the case. Again, he didn't need to do that to prove it was a shot, as he easily could just be relying on natural instinct and intuition, but it sure as heck looks like he did look.
It's just the initial colorway. They're far less flamboyant than numerous boots on the market. Insanely light at less than 7.8oz. A good portion of players will being wearing those at the WC, albeit in different colors, so you better get used to them now! BTW- picture from a recent Fulham training sesh:
Dempsey's past before his professional days in addition to on and off the field issues he's had to face and deal with, has made him tough as nails, no doubt about it. The man has plenty of grit and heart. So much so he likes to "keeps it Gangstah".........and now this! LoL!
I'm assuming they are an odd color. Pink, maybe? I cannot tell. I use BigSoccer through a Braille reader and it doesn't do a great job with telling me what colors things are. Thanks
Clint is wearing the newly released Nike boots. They are a very light purple or lilac color, similar to a spring crocus. The swoosh down the side is red as are the laces. The cleats on the bottom are bright orange. He has worn some unusually colored Nike boots before but these have them all beat. By the look on his teammates faces, they seem to agree. To me, Clint appears to be doing a slightly exaggerated prance with his head held high for their amusement.
I agree...when Clint received the ball, he had already sized up the 'keeper, fully expecting the ball would come back to him. And rightly so...I try to teach my youth players to do this all of the time. Once Clint got the ball back, he never looked back at the keeper. Had he done so, he might have tipped off the keeper. If it were a cross, he would have had to survey the situation again to ensure Zamora hadn't moved/wasn't marked. I'll never know the ratio of luck:skill on that shot, but it was definitely a shot.
As we used to say in the old days when 99% of all boots were black and somebody wore something different: "You better be $%#&ing good if you are going to wear those...."
He makes a habit of scoring goals like the one against Juve or the one he scored against Stoke. He can wear frickin' tie-dye crocs if he wants to.
Yeah. Times change though. Now so many different colors are used it's not even funny. I'm waiting for the day when you select the shoe and the color you want. So every team can have all their guys wearing the same color, even though they all have different shoes.
Just finished watching in HD, and right after the ESPN UK interview, the very last frame shows Clint tossing his jersey way up into the stands.
