Mmmm... I think the most notable thing about that goal was that it was against Chelsea, and it capped a two-goal night for him (if I recall correctly, Lamps scored the two for Chelsea). Great night, but when you talk about individual goals, the Liverpool goal had real importance, the Stoke goal had real class, and this one had both.
He also took everything in the universe into account before shooting. That's even more impressive than the goal
I think it may've been a "cross-shot" as Zamora was running to the far post, but the amount he got his foot under it leads me to give Dempsey the benefit of the doubt, besides which it is harldy against Dempsey's modus operandi to try such a shot.
I don't think so at all, but I watched the game live. Watching it in slow motion makes it appear more like a cross, but he'd have no idea Zamora was at the back post. It looked to me like he knew where he was, the defender backed off, and he laid his huge cahones on the table.
From BBC: Fulham's Clint Dempsey, who scored the goal that took his side into the last eight of the Europa League on the Cottagers amazing 5-4 aggregate win over Italian giants Juventus: "Everybody thought it was over when they went ahead but the character and heart we showed to fight back was incredible. That's the loudest I've heard the Cottage crowd in three years. If you're working hard and you believe then you always have a chance - and I believe we can win the competition."
If he looked at goal to chip him he saw Zamora. I think he just hedged his bets and thought the keeper would expect a cross into your hitman and that's what caught him out. That and it couldn't have been better placed. That and Michael Johnson's goal for Citeh last week have been two of the most impressive, accurate goals I've seen. Cantona-esque.
Even if it was a cross, the guy has a knack for scoring period. Sometimes they are pretty and sometimes they are not. But he puts the ball in the net. The goal in the Confed Cup against Brazil comes to mind. He had no intention of doing that but he did. Certain players just have a knack for having good things happen to them in and around the box. Dempsey is definitely one of those guys. He almost has a poacher's ability in a forward/midfielder role. I'm glad he's a Yank, that's for sure.
Maybe his wife caught him looking at her the SI swimsuit issue? Some kind of weird paradox or something... I don't know.
I will be in London on the date of the 1st leg of the QFs. Anyone know if I stand a shot of finding a ticket somehow if Fulham's home on that leg?
I'm still achingly sore about that. The only way I'd have him back at Goodison is if I make a reconstruction and he scores it.
It's touch and go. Best way would be a seat exchange site of some sort, cos I'm sure to buy tickets you'd have to have stubs or points to get at them before they get snapped up on gen sale.
I'm assuming that you are trying to provoke a reaction from some of the posters on here, as I know from reading your past posts that you tend to be a bit of a contrarian. Clint was clearly making an attempt at goal.
I think he almsot certainly went for goal, the only thing is he may've thought that if it drifting past the far post Zamora would've been there to convert it. In such situations I beilev give the player the benefit of the doubt as otherwise you can poo-poo everything spectuclar you see as a fluke. He does have an excellent knack for scoring though, I'd say he's amongst the top midfielders in the Prem for finishing abilty and one of the few that has the instincts of a goal poacher.
Super Mullet. I don't think it is the most spectacular goal by a Yank abroad, I think people mean the most meaningful.
Yeah, I have to imagine that the season ticket holders/club members will get these quickly. I had been planning to go to the home match vs Wigan the day after, but that's obviously out now. Any idea what the at-the-stadium ticket market is like? I know that if I just needed one for a major event in the US, they can generally be had due to someone not being able to make it and letting their friend sell it, but I don't know what the situation is like in the UK.
