That was a lame answer. Hi, I am Ed from New Jersey. First time long time. I think the Red Bull Draft was horrible. Why? I wanted Dilly Duka. They didn't get him so they suck.
This basically summarizes the folly of being a sports fan in today's modern age. So what are you doing posting on Internet message boards? Surely you have a more productive use of your time?
Its moronic actually. The grade could be given in 2 years time, whe we know whichs players turns out to be diamonds and wich ones coals.
omg, the same crap ass argument with every draft in every sport... we discuss and give opinions because it's the new information and it's fun. and bloggers write about it so that we go to their site so that they can make more money from adverts. yes, no one will know for maybe 5-6 years considering the ages of the u-17 and u-20 guys that were taken. i don't see anyone wanting to discuss the illustrious 2008 draft class (brunner, sassano, roth). or how about 2007's (dane and sinisa)? hmmm... maybe 2006 (wynne, altidore, camp) or 2005 (ward and corcoran)... maybe we discuss this class b/c we don't have a chance to be disappointed yet. tchani could be the next shalrie. chinn could show why he was nationally ranked. tim ream could score a huge goal to defeat philly union to allow a completely intentional awesome headline. jonathan villanueva could be brought in and teamed up in midfield with garcia, dane, and borman and they could be called the 'lollipop guild'. the possibilities are endless...
only 4 guys worth discussing in those previous drafts you mentioned: dane richards & sinisa, wynne and altidore jury still out on sassano.
Would you have actually drafted Duka over Tchani? The Red Bulls may have been trying to trade up from their 14th pick and who knows what was being asked? I wanted Duka too but also note that Duka was in their academy for only a short period of time (I heard less than 2 yrs).
Seriously the kid is a nobody and the fact we wasted #18 on him is ridiculous. If he was anywhere as good as you are trying to hype him he'd be part ofthe US set up or in europe by now. He won't make the roster. Only chance he has is if he have an extr aDev spot to fill and he is willing to sit on the bench all year and do youth camp apperances for $15K.
Sounds about right to me. He actaully knows his stuff, which is more than we can say for these other frauds out there pretending.
Do you get off on belittling others? Do you really need to be such a jerk? Kami cam here to give us his report on this player which he knows and has seen play no reason to insult the player he's talking about... And btw that pick was most likely a Richie Williams pick, so I would think he knows more then you (especially since you hype Richie so much) and I think we need to see what this kid can bring before we call him a bust... but what do I know, I'm not a jerk who thinks he knows everything
No, he is obviously a relationship of some kind with that player and is overhyping him to us trying to make him seem like some massive draft day pick up. Look at our roster. We have 1 or 2 senior spots left, presumably to be used on current dev players that must graduate to seniot deals or new signings on the market. We may have a Dev spot open for 4 draft picks to fight for....its called being realistic. Unless the staff starts cutting defenders like Mendes, Petke, Goldthwaite, Boyans, Johnson, Miller and Albright. (not likely) At best we have 2 Dev spots after cuts and signings (we are still rumored to be after Agudelo for an academy GA signing which would again make it one). The only draft pick with a realistic shot at a senior offer is Da Luz. The rest if they want to play will have to do it as a Dev player. So yeah Ream making the team is a long shot.
agreed, Ream and the 2 other late picks will be at best on Dev deals. But I do think we'll trim from the veteran defedners like mendes/boyens/goldy. At least 1 of that group will be gone. Also, I wouldnt be surprised by a mass-clear out of guys who just aren't good enough but have hung around since our talent level has been so low....Ubi, Borman, Sassano, Mbuta, etc...
Wow you completely missed the point (Onionsack for you)... I never said Ream would make the team, I asked you if you have to be such a jerk about it? There's something called tact, you might want to use it from time to time. Also there's 1 thing your forgetting and thats the CBA, who knows maybe MLS will give each time a few more roster spots and a little extra money (cap increase) so that we could keep some of these guys. But I do agree that Da Luz has the best shot to make it.
I am not a fan of sugar coating things. Give me an honest assesment of the kid not a overly and obviously inflated one. You are right, that is a factor i did not take into account.
Nope, but any fool can see his description was pure fluff. Also, my buddy from St. Louis who played there says the kid is decent but not outstanding.
I don't think anyone here would be upset if Ream turned out to be a monster back that tears up the league for us, Onion included. And I don't think anyone is advocating that he not be given the chance to earn his spot on the team. In fact, I would imagine all of us are on his side.
I can understand that and even appreciate it, but there is a difference between an honest assessment and being rude. You could have said that you have a friend who saw him play and though he was ok and that you didn't expect him to make the team, instead of calling him a nobody we wasted a draft pick on... Agreed. But to be honest I'm really rooting for Garcia, I really hope he makes it
Sure i could have. But i do feel it was a wasted pick and I do feel he likely will not make this team and if he does its only because he is willing too play on a dev contract (assumning we have any openings and he beats out the other players) I call it like i see it. If Tim Ream makes me eat crow then fine, its a humble pie i will gladly eat.
Don't get me started I am still amazed that kid made a career as he did. I don't know what happened to him after he left school but when he was with UIC we didn't think much of him...decent college defender and all but me and my friends still get a kick out of the fact he played for the USMNT and in the Premiership. We had defenders better than him at UWM back then.
intrigued by Garcia also but its going to be very tough for he and Chinn to even get Dev contracts unless the rosters are expanded by a new CBA.
