Just a question to all the EB leaders out there. =-) Assuming the league comes to fruition, will Eads Brigade be the team's supporters' group at games like Laclede's Army is for Athletica? Or will it reform under a new name/new leadership since EB was formed for MLS?
Billy... Be sure to let us know when and where the meeting will be soon. I'll have to make room in my schedule.
Don't you guys support the Athletica too? Even if you're not ardent supporters don't you support them at least indirectly?
It has nothing to do with being ardent or not. Many of our members are ardent supporters of Athletica. While we "indirectly", as you put it, support all soccer in St. Louis, we did not want to intrude as a group. Liz has done a tremendous job with Laclede's Army. We have members of Eads who are also members of LA. But, we don't want to cause any confusion or step on any toes by making and Eads Brigade presence as a group at Athletica games.
Check out the Stl Ultras on facebook. They support all soccer in St. Louis. College, WSL Athletica, USL Lions, PASL Illusion, and others! And as a reminder the Wash-U Women play in the Final 4 today (Friday)!!! Lets Go Bears!!!!
And what is wrong with 2 or 3 support groups at one game? Most MLS teams do it. I would consider LA to be the official Athletica support group, but if others are there to show support too, and chant almog with LA, all the better! We say soccer is big in STL, it should support having many Firms!
I don't think anyone objected to more than one group, did they? That being said, if you're going to start another support group, which I'm all for, it would be considerate of you to do it in the St. Louis subform and not the Eads Brigade subforum.
WOOT!!!! I would've SO been on the fan bus driving to San Antonio with the team if I didn't have a concert to perform in tomorrow evening.... Well, technically there already have been multiple SGs at the Athletica games, though the other one (Samba Born? Sambabom? SambaBoom? I forget) was a pre-formed Brazilian music group (who actually didn't show for several of the later home games). They performed from the SE corner of the stadium while LA was at the northeast corner (The Barracks). I think the two groups kind of viewed each other as competition, and to be honest I think we (LA) would view another SG in the stadium as competition as well. If you're going to sit with us in The Barracks and chant with us, then just join the group, don't form another. =-) Also I think MLS clubs can get away with multiple SG's since they already have much bigger audiences. Any splintering of the fans in WPS would probably be viewed as a bad thing, at least at this point. Anyway, to get back (roughly) on topic, I'm pretty sure LA isn't going to be supporting the NASL team, at least as a group, though a fair amount of us (including myself) are in EB as well. And since EB (sounds like it) will be supporting the NASL team, I don't see a reason to start a separate. Let's at least build a critical mass first. =-) Go STL! btw I can bring my banner if the Brigade also want to sit in "The Barracks". Not only is "The Barracks" a housing unit for any sort of military unit, I also found out while making the banner that another meaning of the word (in British English) was to shout, usually in support of something (like a team). ^.^
BTW, the announcement scarves will be available at the Park on Tuesday. We have a small quantity of the original scarf remaining. If anyone still wants to purchase one of those, let me know and I'll bring it along.
I'm not sure I'll have the scratch, but if it's not much trouble to bring one of the old scarves along just in case, that'd be cool. No big deal if it's a hassle in any way. So... if the announcement scarf is in production already... does that mean you know something we don't about the name...?
Nope. The "announcement scarves" have been in my house for over a year. We made them at the same time we made the original scarf. In fact, I was starting to think that we'd never get to use them and we'd end up Woot!-ing them out.
The student pops orchestra here. Music from Chicago, LotR, Indiana Jones, Jupiter, American in Paris, SPiderman, Band of Brothers. btw The semifinal is currently 1-1 in the second overtime. <sitting on the edge of seat> Really? Is it still appropriate considering it's late 2009 with NASL instead of late 2008 with MLS?
Hey SportBilly, could you post what the two scarves look like and prices, again. I'm very interested in purchasing one. Thanks
Here is the original: The design of the second one will be revealed on Tuesday. The scarves are $15 each.
"we did not want to intrude as a group." I'm just saying I don't see more groups as "intruding". I see more groups as a good thing. I signed up for many support groups, Eads, Laclede's Army, Section 8, The Cauldron, and a few others. I am sorry if it looked like I was trying to take people away from you. That is not the intent. We support all soccer, high school, college, and pro. It's about soccer in St. Louis not a team, not a league, not a nation, not a firm, just the beautiful game. If EADS sticks to their original plan of an MLS support group... All the luck. I can't wait for the day an MLS team comes to STL. If you expand to the NASL... That is awesome.... I'm sure there is already a group in the works with Cooper to create an official Supporters Club, which means there will be 3+ support groups together making noise. Could you imagine the atmosphere? We are the Show Me State, but we have not lived up to it... yet. I hope the NASL gives us that chance, and that opens the door to the MLS.
I've read these, but never posted... If Eads becomes an NASL support group, and later we get an MLS team, does that mean we will leave the NASL team high and dry, will we do both, or will we not become an MLS support group?
Any future MLS team will be Cooper's team as well, and St. Louis would leave the NASL at that point (like Portland and Vancouver). For all intents and purposes, it would be the same team, so of course the supporters would go, too. Aren't the Timbers Army (or whatever they're called) going to continue supporing Portland in their new league? They'll support their team in any league...same with Eads Brigade.
