Spain are the better team but Germany are so good at progressing through tournaments. If it was the latter rounds of the world cup say then it would be 50 / 50.

Since they just played in the Euro Cup final and Spain won easily, this isn't the most interesting of polls.

At the moment? No. In 2010? Maybe.

I think Spain wouldprobably run out winners even in the SFs.

Still Germany could win and I think Spain would be particualry vunerable to a team like Germany.

Sure, anything can happen in a football match. But Spain would be favourites right now.

Germany has what it takes to beat Spain as long as they don't concede first and end up chasing passes lol like in Euro 2008.

there's one experiment that would give us a reasonably dependable answer:

    a) draw four white lines on an expanse of turf

    b) introduce 22 players, equally distributed between the two countries

    c) provide ball

    d) note results after 90 minutes

could go either way i think,
if they played a friendly today i'd favour spain but in south africa i could see germany winning....both have a genuine shot at taking the title next year.

If the game went 90 minutes (or 120) I'd take Spain every time over this very average German team......if it went to pk's I"d bet the house on Germany against Spain (or anyone else for that matter)

Normally it's just a figure of speech over here... but really, I would actually bet everything I own on this one because the Germans have never lost a World Cup shootout!

In a match I would favour Spain. I mean England beat Germany in a friendly last year but Spain beat England in a friendly by a mile. So I would take Spain. But in a shootout, always Germany ;)

Yeah I don't understand this. They just played a year ago and Spain won...

Something better would be Germany/Spain vs Brazil since neither have played Brazil in a while (Germany not since 2002, Spain...??).

Dunno if they would, but they surely could.
In a friendly spain would be the favorite, in an important WC game it would be 50/50.

Sorry my bad, I was referring to Spain beating Germany. I don't think Spain would beat Germany in a SF was what I meant to say

In the last four WC finals, Germany got beaten by the "surprise UEFA team" (Bulgaria or Croatia) or by Italy or Brazil. They are solid against all non-UEFA teams and all the other top teams.

Spain is a much less consistent team. Italy and France eliminated them, once they didn't make it out of group, and another they got basically cheated out of a semi-final.

All things considered, I'd say the psych factor would fall on the German side. IMO, only Italy has a larger psych coefficient than they do against European opposition.

So, unless Spain goes into the game with a clear superiority (as they did in the Euro final, when they were playing by far the best football in Europe), Germany would win it.

Sure, maybe if it was 15 years ago. Spain are the class of Europe at the moment.
