Man, doesn't anybody read the source material anymore? Or at least watch the original 1964 film adaptation with Vincent Price?

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4mYireNvcg"]YouTube - "The Last Man On Earth" Trailer[/ame]

    Well, at least somebody does.

BTW, the entire film (the version featuring Price, not Smith) can be seen online. It's very loyal to the book, which is fabulous. I liked the Smith version, for the most part - his performance is very good - but the new film takes a lot of liberties from the novella, some of them quite bad (the end is horrible, IMO, compared to the book).

Great book. What this has to do with ACORN I don't know but if they're mutant vampires then maybe we should consider cutting federal funding.

It has very little to do with the thread. But I find the discussion of zombies and mutant vampires to be more interesting than the discussion measuring the evil of a group of community organizers exposed by a kid living out his Huggy Bear fantasies.

No, I don't think it's that at all.

Frankly there is NO excuse for helping pimps who only serve to harm the interests of the poor around them, particularly the often uneducated girls they 'employ' who ACORN was set up specifically to try and help.

TBH I'd be very interested to hear what the people who worked for ACORN thought they were playing at. It just seems so unlikely that they thought they were genuinely helping the girls. Frankly, if they'd have asked for money for their advice there would at least be a motive. As it is I'm left wondering if they were trying to seem helpful in the vague hope the girls would come back and see them without the 'pimp' present so they could provide genuine help and support to someone who might be vulnerable.

It has to be said, it's all rather strange.

But the movie is not like the book. If you look at the movie, those are not vampires.

The guy in San Diego said that he offered to help because he thought the underage girls were in danger in Mexico. That sounds like a flimsy excuse. Did he really think they'd be better off in the US working as sex workers and controlled by a pimp?

No, obviously not but that's my point. Even if we accept these people are the lowest of the low in terms of their moral compass, (sorry to mix my metaphors there:D), they would STILL have to have SOME reason for doing what they did.

The thing is even to my inexperienced eye it was perfectly obvious this guy wasn't a pimp...

So why would they do it?

Something just doesn't add up. I mean, I'm making the assumption they're almost clinically dumb here but, even so!!! Even dumb people do things for a reason, even if it's difficult to figure out what it is.

I think it probably doesn't add up to you because you are much brighter than those ACORN employees are.

My thinking is that these particular workers probably have poor moral values of their own, so they don't see helping pimps as a bad thing. Maybe they figure they are there to help and so they help. I didn't see them ask for anything in return, a bribe, nothing. I'm sure if they had done so people like Hannaty would be all over it. They just offered to help, like it wasn't a big deal.

I would guess that part of the problem is that they probably haven't been trained properly by the organization to deal with people who come in from the street to offer them criminal propositions or ask for help in committing criminal acts.

At the very least, given what was seen in these tapes, ACORN should reexamine their hiring practice, as well as implement a training program which gives its employees a clear guide on to how to properly deal with such situations.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that you are brighter than those employees.

Who do you think is more able to identify a real pimp and a real hooker, you or the ACORN people?

Why yes, this is a trick question, and the wrong answer will get sent to your wife. Why do you ask? :D

Well, we got ourselves another controversial subject.

    Check out this editorial:

    http://www.zombiephiles.com/zombies-ate-my-brains/i-am-legend-zombies-or-vampires

To me they are zombies. I know the original book is about vampires, but vampires look and act differenty than the zombies we saw in the movie. Unlike Zombies, vampires are civilized.

    As far as I'm concerned...

    This is a vampire:

And stop being partisan. Just because the liberal MSM claims they are vampires it doesn't mean they are vampires. :D

    Me of course.

Errr....from my single days, long ago, of course. :D

No, seriously, if some moron claimed to be a pimp, it wouldn't matter to me if I thought him to be a real pimp or if I suspected that he might be a fake. I still wouldn't offer to help him in any way. And neither would my employees. They know better.

I just heard on KNX 1070 (News radio in Los Angeles) that a cousin of the San Diego employee, who is a police officer, stated that the employee mentioned to him the incident and asked him for advice on what to do. I am sure if that is the case we'll hear more details about it soon.

The employee had claimed that he offered to help because he thought the women were in danger in Mexico. At any rate, if he did go to his cousin, and his cousin filed a report, I would imagine they should have it on record at the PD.
