Sorry if this has already been addressed, but this being my first cap and it being an away game, is there going to be any pre-game festivities?

Hi guys, I'm mexican living in Mexico City, I've lived here all my life. Reading this tread I've come to the colclusion that many of you are clueless about Mexico City. So im gonna tell you a little bit about it.

It's not as dangerous as you may think it is, it's just that the mexican media likes to exagerate everything so a lot of myths have been created, I've lived here all my life and I've never had any problems. Mexico City is just as any other big city in the world, just like NYC, Tokyo or Paris, just use your common sense.

The smog won't be a problem, it's summer so it has been raining, the sky is clearer than in the rest of the year. Feel free to breathe whenever you want ;)

Mexican fans are not agressive, you won't have many problems with this. Nothing happened with the thousands of honduran fans that were here last year, and nothing happened with the costarrican fans. You can misbehave a little if you want and it will be tolerated. If México loses (Don't worry it wont happen :D) the most probable thing is that mexican fans will try to hunt down the mexican team bus lol (I'm exagerating :p), they will be angrier at the mexican national team than at the americans.

Transport is cheap and easy. I think you have discussed this too much already.

Mexico City is a really touristic place, you will have a GREAT time here. It's one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world: the 8th richest city in the world, an alpha global city, and its also the 2nd city in the world with more museums, etc. I'd recommend you going to Coyoacán and San Ángel, two great beautiful places.

Ok, now, something i think you guys haven't discussed, what to eat and what not to eat. According to this Wall Street Journal article, Mexico City could be the best city to eat in the world "There are cities, like Bangkok, where you can eat superbly at open-front restaurants with plastic stools for seats, and cities like Paris, where the food is terrific but comes at a price, usually astronomical. Mexico City is a rarity: From open-air markets to the highest-end restaurant, the food is magnificent". You can also watch the Anthony Bourdain show in Mexico City to keep hearing stories about how great mexico city's food is. Sounds fancy, doesn't it? But there is one problem: foreigners are not used to all the spices that are used in mexican cuisine, and you might get sick because of that, its not that the food is bad or something like that, it's just that youre not used to it, we mexicans also get sick with the food when we go to other countries. So my advice is: don't eat street food if you only have a few days here and you don't have a strong stomach, you will see a lot of street food vendors outside of El Azteca; it might be the best street food in the world, but don't eat it if you are not used to it.

Ok guys i think thats enough for a single post, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Excuse my bad eglish =)

^^ Thanks. I love street food. I think I'll live off of tacos and beer while I'm out there.

Where do all the hot girls go clubbing at?

At Condesa and Polanco you wil find a rainbow of night clubs with hot girls.
http://antreando.com/ this is a great site to look for antros (night clubs).

You can also go to Plaza Garibaldi for a nice Mariachi, beer and tequila night

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pGytER4iXA"]YouTube - Tequila con limón - Jorge Negrete[/ame]

My advice: dont go to Zona Rosa at night with someone that doesn't know the place, it is famous because it is a ehrmmm... a common spot for gay people and gay clubs.

I could take you guys to my personal favorites =P, but my shcool starts on august 10th :( so i can't lol

As much as I'm looking forward to the game, I'm actually more excited for the food.

    Good post.

so like Efraim says , if you will be here only for a few days or just for the match ... dont try traditional mexican food , could be a bomb for you !! but if you will be stay more days , eat it until vomit !!! hehehehe also a lot of chelas ( beers ).

I am from Southern California and really used to eating very hot and spicy Mexican food. Is there some good food at Azteca Stadium that is safe (I am more worried about food safety and handling procedures) to eat besides pizza ( I don't travel to eat pizza except to Italy)?

The weather channel says 80 degrees and a 60% chance of rain, coming from this socal heat that sounds pretty refreshing

Rain will reduce heat and smog, good for the team's play, correct?
Besides any zip-lock urine bag hit will get rinsed off immediately.
Pack a red raincoat and bring it on, I say.

Rain is good for gameday and gametime.
We are going to have beer showers for sure, and towards the end of the game, who knows what other liquids we'll get.

    Rain is GOOD

I'm bummed about the rain cause I had plans for other days like visiting the pyramids and such. I'm stoked about the rain on game day though. We can definitely take a point there if it starts to rain and that would be an awesome backfire for them for moving the game to that time.

Hey guys! Another Mexican over here!!! well... not ALL mexican fans are aggressive, but I'd recommend you guys to be careful, I don't mean to scare you, but there are fans that can get pretty crazy (specially after a couple of beers)... just ignore them and enjoy the game... if someone tries to start a fight with you or something, ignore them or tell a security guy... if you don't speak spanish ask for someone around you to tell security... I'm pretty sure someone will help you.
Stadium's atmosphere is the best! I can tell you that much...
Yes, we are rivals on the field, but I'm sure if you need help people in the stadium WILL help you!

About transportation I wanted to say, Metro is safe up to certain hours... I'd recommend a safe taxi "taxi seguro" I'm sure your hotel can help you with this... yes, it's a little bit more expensive, but I've been in the States and taxi rates over there are over the moon, I don't think you'll have a problem with rates over here... it could be up to 200 pesos... tops!
right now I can't think of other recommendations, but if you have any doubts pls contact me, I'll be happy to help you!!

If you are staying a few days, you probably wont see all of these places, but so you get a small idea of what Mexico City is like =)
