Probably a good idea we solidify a plan for a Tuesday night meet up for all the US Supporters to meet up in Mexico City the night before the game.

Somewhere in the main Mex thread someone mentioned Yuppies Sports Cafe which although I'm personally not mad on the place, is a good idea because it's in the Zona Rosa (sorry Zocalocos) where most people are staying and again a lot of people know it from previous excursions plus it's a decent size to accomodate us all.

Let's say 8pm Tuesday night. The address is:

    Yuppie's Sport Café Sports Bar,
    Génova 34
    Zona Rosa
    Tel: 5208-2267

Wouldn't be a bad idea if someone who speaks decent Spanish gives them a bell with a heads up to expect a large group that night - any volunteers?

If anyone who knows the city has any better suggestions please post them here but at least we have a plan if nothing better materializes.

    See ya there.

While I have no idea about the place (and would prefer to not be associated with an establishment called "Yuppies"), it's probably a good idea to just stick with the plan and have the meet-up there. I read it on TIAS and a few other sites, so it should be a good turnout.

    Just over two weeks...

I don't want to go to Mexico City to drink Guinness in an American style bar....just saying.

Last time we ended up in a trendy bar across town called Lips, but, it's more of a trendy fashion kinda place; lots of leather sofas and martinis, etc. Not sure how we ended up there, but, they had a DJ playing New Order, so, I didn't mind.

Yuppies was okay as a place to hang and watch other games on the day (we spent part of that Saturday with some Dutch fans watching Euro games back in '05), but, there are surely cooler places to be. Hopefully someone local can nail a spot down for us to migrate to after we meet up there. If not, Yuppies is an okay back up, but, yeah, it reminds you more of being in Phoenix than Mexico City.

Anyone know any of these joints?

I'll be getting there at 9am on Tuesday and I'm staying at Hotel Del Principado in Zona Rosa so I'll have some time to scope out things...people really should join the Facebook group(Azteca Trip 2009) so we can exchange numbers and stuff....Almost all of us are traveling in groups so telling one person where someone is going will tell a lot of people.

Anyone have a spare ticket they're willing to sell to a U.S. soccer fan who already has a flight to Mexico booked?

Maybe we start at Yuppies (as we know what to expect, some people know how to get there from before) and then do some sort of pub crawl from there? Are people going to be wearing shorts/us gear or dressed up for clubbing? (that will sort of help plot our itinerary).

If you go to nightclubs/lounges in DC you need to be dressed up (some have specific rules, no sports gear). Not sure what is the norm in Mexico

Somebody needed to come to your rescue. Please DO NOT go to Zona Rosa for pub crawling. It sucks, is a tourist trap, dangerous, the red zone (also the gay zone now). It used to be good 15-20 years ago, now stay away from there, please.

If you want to go to a Pub to meet, try something in Polanco (like the Irish Pub, W, 50 friends) or something like that. If you want to do a pub crawl, try La Condesa/Roma, its much better for Wednesday night or thursday. For clubbing is different, its kinda spread around the city (Polanco, Lomas, some in Condesa, San Jeronimo)

Also, no shorts or tennis for bars/clubs.

Full disclosure here, I am Mexican & live in Mexico City

Yuppies probably works as we would want a place where we could represent/sing and that would actually welcome our business.

do we really want to sing when we are in a non-supporters bar the night before the match?

i dare you to find a supporters bar for the USA in Mexico City.

You have to relax, Yuppies is a sports bar. They welcome this type of stuff and it will be mid week. I'm sure that the bar will be empty if it makes you feel better.

all i meant was the night before a match in a random bar doesnt seem the place to be singing....i live right outside of New York City. if there were a group of Canadian supporters in a random bar in the middle of Manhattan singing the night before a US-Canada match I would think they are insane or obnoxious. probably both.

OK cool, thanks for the heads up. Our group is staying at the JW Marriott in Polanco so crawling nearby works for me.

c´mon guys ... forget yuppies ..... is like Applebees but with sports theme environment , a lot of screens broadcasting SAT all kind of sports ( NCAA games , ONEFA games , Mexico Liga , ESPN , FOX SPORT , TYC [Argentinian channel ] , ... etc etc. ) , it will be like if you were in USA instead of Mexico , I´m living in DF , for sure I´m Mexican ... and how to choose a bar , it depends in what you are interested to do .... hang out to a club , hang out to get drinks and watch sport , hang out to a Mexican trendy cantina .... there are a lot of options ... but I wont recommend you Zona Rosa , there are a lot of gay people and a lot of gay clubs .... just awful ( the atmosphere , but the zone is very luxury and trendy )... kind of El Castro in SF .... try La Condesa that district is really good to hang out and get some drinks ( European zone style ) , Polanco if you dont mind to spend a lot of money drinking ( one of the top zone in DF ) , also there is a bar " Beer Factory " near UNAM stadiun in the south of the city .... it´s really nice with an amaizong view of the south hills of the city ( from there you can see in the hills the roallercoasters of Six Flags Mex City ) .... well , it´s up to you .....

    Saludos!!

hahaha yeah I remember that. Which is all cool if that's your scene but it's like going to a typical bar here in the us which might not be a bad thing if that's what you want to do. I wanna find a place where I can get some cheap mexican beer and see a donkey show and a monkey knife fight
