Yes, it appears that Chilean players have had more success at River, starting obviously with Salas, and more recently Alexis Sanchez.

All the years I've been a fan of Boca Juniors, which is my whole life, the only Chilean player that comes to mind is Ivo Basay, and he didn't really do much for Boca.

But I'm really happy that we're getting Medel. He looks like the prototypical Boca Juniors player, with 'garra', strength and the will to win. And he will fit perfectly in Basile's system. We need a player like that to compliment Battaglia and cover for Riquelme in midfield. The pressure and the expectations are high, but I think Medel can handle it, and he has what it takes to win the fans.

As far as 'el odio', don't take that seriously.

I doubt he will be in Boca long enough to become an idol...specially in these times when S.American talents seem to last soo little in our continent before being grabbed by Europe.

Yeah...Boca and Sao Paulo in Brazil seem to do a good job in keeping a fairly strong team, they keep the quality veterans that no European team is willing to gamble on...but they still sell younger players.

Just a few years back and we see Gago and Benega who left Boca pretty early. I doubt any of these two players is an idol in Boca...maybe Gago.

If Medel has a good year and then a good world cup, then he will be out of there in no time.

hopefully... to those of us who have followed his career, he is a special type of player. I mean there's a reason why a lot of chilean soccer fans (maybe most?) consider him to be the best or second best player we have (along with Alexis)...and that's above and beyond what players that are 'rompiendola' en europa like Isla, Vidal, and others are doing...

Boca has managed to keep some very good foreign players for a reasonable time, as was the case for example with Chicho Serna, Bermudez and Vargas. On the other hand, some top South American young players in recent years have used Boca as a step to show themselves and succesfully move to a top European league after a short time, like for example Norberto Solano and Luis Perea.

As I understand it, Medel is at Boca on loan, so that leads me to believe that he'll jump to Europe as soon as he gets a good offer. It would be nice for him to stay at Boca for some time, but who can blame him for wanting to go to a top league in Europe? That is where 'la vaquita lechera' (as we say) is.

So, if he can give us one good year and help us win something, then as a fan I'll gladly take it. Boca Juniors fans still have fond memories of the contributions of guys like Perea and Solano, who worked hard and contributed to the club, even though their time at Boca was short.

sounds like it could work. but though he's on loan, Boca have the option to buy half of his pass and extend the loan, as i understand it.
