And this is why Veron turned down all that money from the MMLS.

Damn, forgot to set the DVR for this game! Hopefully I catch one of the FSE replays.

Congrats to Estudiantes, I honestly didn't think they'd pull it off.

According to this, this coming Copa Libertadores is not in danger (from the feel I get from it) but afterwards it will be another thing.

I like the Libertadores, but I just think the final should be a one-off deal like the Champions League Final.

On a neutral field? Nobody would travel and buy a ticket for the game. Things are different in the Americas than in Europe.

    Yes a neutral field.

Maybe you wouldn't fill a huge stadium with a final like this year's, but for example, a Boca vs. Sao Paulo final people would travel.

    I don't know...

...for all the talk about the Argentinian league not being strong anymore, it so happens that in the quaterfinals there were 4 Brazilian team, 2 Uruguayan teams, and 1 good Venezuelan team vs 1 from Argentina...

    ...and they still won it...

    For real...

Distance is an example. In Europe, more often than not, you could actually DRIVE to where the final is or even take a train.

In South America, you would have fly just about anywhere.

The final this year for the Champions League? Barcelona and Manchester are about the same distance: a simple 16 hours drive.

If the final for the Libertadores would have been in any major neutral venue, at least one of the teams will have to fly. Montevideo, Porto Alegre, Buenos Aires, Asuncion, etc...never mind the rest.

The fact that you wouldn't fill a huge stadium with a final like this year is one of the many reasons it wouldn't work. Sold out crowds in the final is what's it all about and there is no better way in South American to do this than by having a home and away series. Also, I think this gives the fans of the two finalist something they deserve and that's a chance to witness and celebrate the atmosphere with their team.
