I don't mind if he keeps delivering :D

Update on Kikuchi at Schalke04: Apparently he is still on trial and was playing in a few test matches. Maybe he has a 4-week-trial-contract but as I don't think it grants him playing those test matches, Magath may still sign him. But, while the new DM from Greece, Pliatsikas scored on his debut, the match reports on schalke04.de only mention Kikuchi in the line-up list.

On a related note, I think this was mentioned before but there is a Japanese striker in Schalke's U23 reserve team, Shohei Matsunaga (20):
    http://www.schalke04.de/2263.html

He scored 1 goal in 13 appearances in the Regionalliga West, which is the fourth tier of German football (3 regionally divided divisions). His statistics may not look good but as someone said before it makes Japanese players more common over here...

I remember Magath tried to sign him when he was at Wolfsburg. But then the scandal etc etc.

Starting Aug, we have to make a thread for the new season. Does anyone has a updated list of all Japanese players playing abroad this year?

    Lucky You! :)

I don't know if this belongs to the media thread, but Matsui recently was in a TV show "Yabecchi FC" presenting some of his tricks, which you can see on the following blog "Sports Doga News":

Lean back and enjoy, this is terrific

VVV Venlo beat Feyenoord for the Herman Teeuwen Memorial today.

Actually it was more like Honda vs. Feyenoord. He scored the first goal, Feyenoord then pulled ahead in the second half (2-1) before he managed to score another goal with a freekick. VVV then went on to win in a penalty shootout.

Honda supposedly intends to stay in the Netherlands for two more years and wants to play at Ajax or PSV. His or rather VVV's unfortunate asking price of 10 million means it's somewhat likely he'll stay at the club for another season.

I listened to the audio of the game and Koki sounded like he had a very good match. I believe he will get the chance to cement a place in the team under our new manager.

I have found both Killen's goals from the match but haven't found any video yet of Koki's. If I do, I'll post it.

I'll be watching the full game on Channel67(Celtic's own channel) later tonight once it becomes available and I'll be able to give a better idea of Koki's overall performance in what was our first pre-season fixture.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are offering for Honda. Their new coach is Frank Rijkaard and he obviously wants him to take over the game making role of Lincoln.

Galatasaray is also former club of Inamoto... don't know if this would be a good move. Scouts from Ajax, AZ, PSV were reported to be at the test match between VVV and Feyenoord.

Honda should stay in Holland. Then EPL :D

I think I've seen to midfielders sign for Wolfsburg this month, maybe the competition for Hasebe will get tougher then? Don't know if they are established players or youngsters.

    Re: Japanese Abroad 2008/09 Part 2 [R]

I think Frank Rijkaard could drive him forward... but agree: with the WC next year he probably shouldn't go somewhere totally different. Priority should be a club that needs him, and a (footballing) culture he is used to, so IMO Holland or maybe Germany.

Wolfsburg: You are right, Wolfburg has signed 3 midfielders. One is Danish international Kahlenberg (central midfield) from Auxerre, then Karim Ziani, Algerian attacking midfielder from OM, and just now Fabian Johnson from 2. division 1860 Munich (German u21-winger). Maybe Kahlenberg could be a rival for Hasebe but I think he is rather an alternative for the No 10-position (Misimovic).

Hasebe is a versatile player, playing almost all defensive positions in the right-centre area, and they need a lot of players for the champions league, so I think he will have playing time...

On a related note: I doubt that Wolfsburg are really considering Honda at the moment with all the new signings for midfield.

    Re: Japanese Abroad 2008/09 Part 2 [R]

That was our first pre-season friendly. He was played on the right of a four man midfield but he must have had license to wander as seen from his position in the goal. Both in the build up and the finish. TM(Tony Mowbray) has hinted that our full backs will be asked to attack more next season. Possibly because the players in front of them may move inside more or into a more forward position.

Last season, as you probably know, Koki played up front in a lot of our reserve matches so he's certainly no stranger to the position in Scotland and what to expect from the opposition.

Mowbray likes to have skilful, creative players in his midfield and his attack if possible. Size isn't an issue for him. Players like James Morrison and Valero and Menseguez all played for WBA last season and height, or lack of, wasn't a problem in the EPL for Mowbray's sides.

I think he will be given plenty of opportunities in pre-season, like everyone else, and hopefully he'll show enough to convince the manager to use him as an integral part of the first team in this coming season.

Thanks, that sounds promising. I think it's great how patient Celtic is with Mizuno. At another club he wouldn't have the chance to prove himself, especially after the person who got him there is gone.

Forgot about the CL qualifiers
Final score line: 1-1 away to Tirana (Albania)... Daigo's goal was vital for Stabaeck! Now, let's hope they make it to the next round...:)

Wasn't meant to happen, Schalke04 not signing Kikuchi:

    http://www.schalke04.de/news_details.html?&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=24288&tx_ttnews[backPid]=19&cHash=2b59187323

Anyway, he is a free transfer, so one or another club might still look at him before season starts. Personally, I am not unhappy it didn't work out. It would be better for him to join a smaller team where he can be a regular.

Tbh if they were patient with him they wouldn't have dropped him after one bad old firm game. No not from the starting XI but from the bench as well.

I am just saying that Celtic seems to be careful with him, they are treating him like he stems from their own youth. Maybe another club would try to get rid of him by now after not providing the results in his first year.

So you're basing this on the previous manager at the club meaning you're not willing to give the new manager a chance?

Kozo Yuki (released by JEF United) is said to be joining Fortuna Dusseldorf of the German 2. Bundesliga.

    http://www2.fortuna-duesseldorf.de/pages/news/uebersicht-news/artikel/article/status-testspieler-bei-fortuna/index.htm

The 31 year old defender has signed until December because the defense has had injury problems. This signing has been helped by a Japanese firm sponsoring the deal.
