With a handle like 'Vllaznia' it's clear that he's not being dumb, just very biased. Duka's appearance against Jamaica provisionally cap-tied him to the US. Since he also has grown up in America, the chances of him switching are very, very slim.
The reasons why he isn't going to switch are very numerous but I'll give a few 1) He was born in the US and has developed as a player here 2) Assuming the US qualifies for the U20 World Cup, Duka will make the final roster as long as he is healthy. The U20 World Cup is one of the most elite youth tournaments in the world. A player that gets this far for a country will almost never switch. 3) Rongen clearly believes in Duka. Duka starts and has a role on the team where most of the offense runs through him 4) Albania is not a world power. They have some good players but the program is struggling. The US is a better team and players good enough for the national team can play consistently in World Cups. 5) The US players that are around Duka's age are very promising. When you look at this crop of U20-eligible players along with the players from the 2007cycle and the players from the 2011 cycle, it's a good group to be a part of.
Sorry, logic on BS is not allowed I am going to have to kindly ask you to take that some where else. Thank you.
Vllaznia This guy is just trolling the YNT and YA forums. I expect it to continue throughout the WYCQualifying. So please just ignore him. We don't really need an Albanian debate here.
As an Albanian I feel I have one more reason to root for the U.S., not that I actually needed one. If Duka were born and raised in Albania I would have been pissed if he didn't play for the Albanian NT (like Valon Behrami of West Ham who decided to play for the Swiss as opposed to Albania). As things stand it is only fair he plays for the US. I've been waiting for the day when a player of Albanian origin plays for the USMNT.
Assuming that the date on this piece is Euro-style, looks like Duka was on trial with Lierse SK earlier this month: Agblexo Wisdom, De Corte Thomas, Fawaz Youssef, Meyers Christopher, Nedzipi Nderim, Van der Jeugt Sven, Weuts Koen and Winothai Leesaw. Also Duka Dilly (American right-sided midfielder on trial) will feature. http://www.lierse.be/en/news/reserves-play-tonight-first-team-squad-news He wasn't mentioned in another reserves report a few days later, though: http://www.lierse.be/en/news/team-news-reserves Lierse already lists another Yank, Egyptian-American Sherif El-Bialy, who played at -- Rutgers! Just like Duka. http://www.lierse.be/en/player/el-baily-sherif
In the Dutch version of the site, he appears in a match report (for the reserves I assume) on March 31: http://www.lierse.be/nl/news/lierse-beloften-winnen-met-0-1-bij-sk-ronse (started and played 65). Google: "The American tester Dilly Duka, the past days on the Lisp went around and played in two matches of the promises, it was no added value and was also forwarded." Doesn't sound good.
I'm sorry to hear about his lisp. Speach therapy can do wonders with that. Also, it is good to see him supplimenting his income as a tester. Did they mention what he is testing? Finally, I'm not sure: Are they saying that he promised to play in two matches, and then was forwarded in the mail to another team for free (no added value)? At least, this is what I got out of it. Either that or he is just struggling for playing time.
http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...s-and-duka-to-train-with-first-team.html#more Dilly has been brought in to train with RBNY's 1st team. Apparently, it less of a trial because RBNY do not expect him to sign a deal with anyone until the conclusion on the U-20 WC.
If a young USA player is looking to wait until after the U20 WC to go pro, it's obvious he's looking to go abroad as opposed to the MLS. I am still happy the Red Bulls are allowing him to train with them during the college off-season despite not having much of a chance to sign him. It will allow him to stay in shape for the U20 WC. With so many young U20 players finding it hard getting playing time in the MLS this year, it's probably becoming less an option for talented youngsters. I mean it used to be an attractive option because it offered top U20 players more playing time than most European leagues and some of those players (certainly not all) need playing time. So for those players, MLS was a better option than going overseas at such an early stage of their careers. But with so many top teenagers not getting any PT this year, MLS is going to be even less of an option. I haven't seen Duka play but I really want to. I've heard good things. Hopefully he plays well this fall.
You guys are missing these quotes. He wants to sign. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/soccer/archives/2009/05/mls_loosens_aca.html#more
Thanks! I totally missed that. I just skimmed the article. He may want to sign but is there room to sign? With the limited roster space he may be relegated to signing in Europe. He could sign a Gen Adidas contract, though. I love to see him abroad but he's the type of player I'd love to see nurtured in MLS.
The Red Bulls just loaned out Mbuta, opening up a roster spot. I imagine someone will get signed. Since Duka (and Exantus for that matter) would probably receive Gen Adidas contracts, there are no cap problems as long as their is an open roster spot.
Well, we will see. But thanks for bringing up those quotations. I think he'll use MLS for some leverage. He's still a college player and needs to cover all his bases. I think he'll say he's open to anything. But if he plays well in Egypt, I think he'll go overseas if he can find a right fit.
Actually, Mbuta is back from his loan (I think it was 1 game only). And I think even loaned players still count as filled roster spots in MLS. But of course RBNY can just cut Zimmerman or whatever if they decided to sign either Duka or Exantus.
Yeah...the good thing is by cutting other players for youth is you are saving cap as well... ...frankly I think the one other thing MLS needs to do is have special extra roster spots for youth, like a 26 man roster, though two can only be filled by academy players.
Missed that about Mbuta's loan. I thought that due to the reduction in roster spots, players could be loaned out outside of the roster as long as they were under the cap. (Thinking about it now, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense because a team could load up with 10 developmental guys and loan them all out unless they were needed.)
http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/soccer/archives/2009/05/more_on_mls_aca.html#more More quotes by Duka and Jeff Agoos at the link.
it will be interesting to see how he uses or where he plays both duka and gerson... although both can play on the wings, I think both of their preferred positions are central... not to mention both of them, atleast as far as I know, are not known for their defensive abilities
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers forward Dilly Duka (Montville, N.J.) will not return to the men’s soccer program for the 2009 season, head coach Bob Reasso announced. Following the spring campaign, Reasso also learned that he will enter the 2009 regular season without the services of Duka, the team’s leading scorer and All-BIG EAST selection a year ago. An outstanding talent on the pitch, Duka led Rutgers with eight goals while also adding an assist in 2008. For his career, he played in 36 games, making 35 starts and scored 10 goals and dished five assists. “On a down note, Dilly will not be coming back to compete this fall,” said Reasso. “We’re very appreciative of his time here. He wasn’t a national team player when he got here and now he’s a member of the U-20. “We wish him well. He is a great kid and was a great servant for our program. I believe Dilly will have a great career and I am delighted for him that he’s got this opportunity.” Duka, a current a member of the US U20 National Team, will be with the squad during World Cup Sept. 24 – Oct. 16. Following the tournament he will leave his options open for pursuing a possible professional contract. Depending on Duka’s decision, he has the opportunity to maintain his status as an amateur and make a return to the Scarlet Knights; however, if Duka chooses to become a professional, he will negate a return to Rutgers. Had Duka chosen to return to RU, he would have missed five to seven games of the regular season, while competing in the World Cup. Duka enjoyed a breakout run with the U20 squad during qualifying play. In five matches with the US National Team, he earned four starts, tallying one goal and two assists. He also helped the United States clinch its berth by converting on his penalty kick as the US defeated host nation Trinidad and Tobago. Duka was equally fond of his time at RU and credits the coaching staff with playing a major role in his growth and development over the past two years. “I’m very thankful for the coaching staff at Rutgers,” said Duka. “They supported me for the last two years, gave me advice on the game and helped me learn the game at a different level. Even though I will probably not be with them this year, I will be supporting them and hoping they do well throughout the season.”
They don't know Devann Yao like they know Duka. They've obviously been watching him for a while as he was part of their youth set-up.
