Preston scored Kapfenberg's only goal in a 1-2 home loss to Wiener Neustadt in the quarterfinal of the Austrian Cup. Wiener Neustadt plays a division below Kapfenberg in the Erste Liga but currently leads the race for promotion to the Bundesliga.
Zimmerman subbed in at halftime with the game scoreless against 3rd place Austria Wien today. Final score was 2-1 Austria Wien, no goals by Zim. http://www.liveresult.ru/en/football/matches/match82498_Austria_Wien-Kapfenberg_live/?do=showmatch Is he going back to Hamburg at the end of the season? Or staying in Austria?
He's not with Kapfenberg anymore according to this article: http://sport.orf.at/?href=http://sport.orf.at/ticker/326155.html They fired him since he didn't show up at training anymore and apparently is having a trial in England.
Wow. This came out of the blue. Reads like SVK informed the players association about the incident and to see if it was a dismissable offense. Apparently it was. I wonder what went wrong. Zimmerman was starting on a regular basis and bagged a few goals playing as a winger. He looked good in the 4 games I was able to stream. The manager, I believe, was very complimentary in the press about his progression. Something must have soured quickly. BTW, he's still listed on their roster on their website. however, that doesn't mean much. FWIW, how could be obtain an english WP if he impresses in a trial? He's been in Europe a couple of years but has it been long enough to establish citizenship in Germany?
7 years too short . However, he appearantly has German citizenship. Almost certainly because of his parents though, I'd assume.
This is a total shock . I thought that things were going quite well for Zim. He was getting decent PT and scoring a few here and there. Hopefully we'll get some details about this decision, but I won't hold my breath.
I noticed he was missing from the gameday rosters for a few weeks, but I didn't expect this. Hope he latches on somewhere - he's got the talent.
He's got all summer! No need to rush. The European season is closing. He should take his time and find the right fit.
What the hell happened?? Seemed like Zimm was doing well with Kapfenberg, up until he started missing matches. Did he sleep with the gaffer's wife or something?
this is like the (mini)anti-Anton Peterlin move. Wonder what team he is trialing out for? Everton? I can see it now.. Tim Howard makes a fine save. Throws it to Peterlin. Peterlin w/ a thru ball that Zimmerman latches onto.... GOALLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!
I think if I was forced to name one American abroad who this would not happen to it would have been Zimmerman considering his phenomenal work rate and how he is such a team first player. He's always reminded me a bit of Kuyt in that regard. I'm shocked.
I don't think anyone is wetting their diapers we are just curious to know what happened. Zim may have initiated his "firing" by not turning up but there has to be an underlaying reason. You just don't up and decide not to go to training especially when you are in the lineup week in and week out and contributing. Something doesn't quite smell right.
Exactly, Zim has always come off as a mini-Mcbride in his character and professionalism. Something seems a bit off about all of this.
It really does seem odd, especially when he only had 5-6 games left in the season. What could be so wrong that he couldn't stick it out another month or so?
Well, according to the article he didn't show up to training because he was trialing in England, whitout informing Kapfenberg. Of course there could still be more to it, and we don't know if it's true and all - but if it is he wasn't just not turning up.
I realize that. But the question looms why he was trialing in England. Was it so important that it couldn't wait until after his season concluded? It seems like shortsided thinking to me. I just don't think Zim is the type who would pull something like without probable cause. That's why something must have facilitated to prompt him leaving and not just a trial. That's all I'm saying. I curious know.
Isn't that illegal? Trialing for a different team while you are still under contract to another team? Hopefully it was an opportunity that was too good to pass up.
