yeah, what gives? you talking about visa restrictions on s. american teams? http://www.espnstar.com/football/ot...il/item257928/Mexican-sides-relocate-in-Copa/ ...and I was hoping they would have Chivas & San Luis play in Miami or Houston. That would be a crazy atmosphere for US (brazilians vs mexicans), and so exciting with big crowds that conmebol would reconsider bringing usa back in to their tournaments.
did you read the article link? is suggest visa problems are the reason conmebol hasnt extended MLS invites for S. Amer. tourneys. The real problem, in part, for USA is that there has to be alot of excitement for lib or sudamericana. The chivas & san luis games in LA should show otherwise. I feel that the hispanic community in the US and probably Mexican fans in Mexico dont get into libertadores as much as European fans get into champions league as opposed to their own respective domestic leagues. Maybe Traffic should make a cheap TV deal with either of the national spanish language networks in US. Also, maybe libertadores should push back by 3 weeks their final 16 play till after champions league...and maybe switch play to the weekends... this would probably help in worldwide TV ratings when Euro leagues will be on break.
Gee... so if any change is to be done it's because to favour any play in United States, no way, ridiculous on the least. Also there's no confirmation where Chivas and San Luis will play their home matches.
So I guess you have a big problem with all those south american players going to europe to play for big money- the kind which south american clubs cant pay. You would have to be against that, since thats my point about involving Concacaf into lib....money...tons of it. If libertadores was popular in US based on Hispanics and US immigrants, and ESPN showed it and got big ratings (like the 6 mil who watch Club America vs Chivas), that would be big bucks. If an English championship team goes to the 1st division EPL it means 100 million dollars more. If a Mexican 2nd division team goes into 1st division that means 30 mil. This is widely reported in news. Mexico is poor, almost dirt poor. Where do you think that money is coming from that the team is getting? Alot of it is from the money made from viewers in the US (primarily hispanic, but american income earners nevertheless). Why do you think so many mexican teams tour the US> Anyway, other threads have already made the point of the infusion of money into libertadores from Mexican teams. Canada too would go ape sh&t if TFC or Vancouver were playing Sao Paolo or River.
Hey i already know about the infusion of money because of the mexicans in United States, my problem is that it's just that, about money, i don't see anyway that the "overhelming amount of money" is being used to make any improvement in South America, specially in the smaller countries(small as in football-wise). Also players leaving to Europe has happened since day one, in a lesser amount, yes, but it still has happened.
Well, the time is now if MLS wants to come knocking our doors. I don't think the Mexicans want to come back after we forced them to quit the cup.
I'm not sure if the news of Mexican teams leaving libertadores is good or bad for Concacaf & MLS. I actually doubt Conmebol will invite mexican teams again next year. Lets not forget that teams from FMF are invitees. Conmebol are definately offended FMF couldnt accommodate demands of the south americans. So then the question is whether conmebol just backs off from inviting concacaf teams in general or whether they will take their invitee slots elsewhere...such as central america and MLS. One central american invitee and one or two MLS invitees might be nice, but I think Conmebol will just not invite any concacaf teams...gee thanks FMF.
WTF is this S? Can't accommodate the demands of the South Americans? The SAs didn't even knew what to demand. IS BS. The Mexican teams are ready to host the games in Mexico, every expert says there's no danger, but still the SAs doesn't want, ok... Lets host the games in Costarica, no, the SA doesn't want because of the turf... Ok, lets play the games at the USA, Not there either! Ok, we retire from the competition, but COnmebol didn't want that either.. give us a f break....
Well, but if they're out of CONMEBOL, they'll have to care about CONCACAF if they want to take part in the Club World Cup, and want to be regonized playing an official international competition. I don't see this being bad for CONCACAF, if anything it's good.
They couldn't qualify to the CWC through CONMEBOL anyways. If they cared about the CWC at all then they'd have to care about CONCACAF. It's always been that way.
I think now is the time for the smaller concacaf and MLS teams to step up and get those mexican spots for next years Libertadores and Sudamericana. I don't think CONMEBOL denied Concacaf in general, just the FMF. This is kind of a win, win situation for MLS and Concacaf. The FMF is the top league in Concacaf, and they always send the best squads to the CONMEBOL competitions, so now that they are out of those competitions, they will send their best to their own regional competitions which in turn gives more of a challenge to the other teams in cincacaf only making concacaf stronger, and MLS.
I would like to see a chicago fire, or say Chivas USA go. Both good teams, who i am not sure are included in this years concacaf champ. League, 09-10
Personally, i would also not mind to see seattle play, wiht freddy ljunberg and montero playing vs. the best in south america.
Except for the fact that CONCACAF itself said it's going to review having its teams participate in CONMEBOL tournaments, so this may mean the end of all of it. I'm pretty sure I linked to the article in this thread. If not, it's part of the article that talks about giving Honduras Belize's spot in the CCL.
You've got this wrong, it's the other way around actually. The FMF sends it's four yearly champions and runners-up to CONCACAF and the next eight in line go to Interliga to fight it out for Libertadores spots.
This is gonna afect the mejican teams. Since mejico joined the copa libertadores and copa america they have improved thanks to great competition. Conmebol did right in protecting our people of the pig flu. It turned out to be nothing serious but still...If mejican teams feel offended well just quit. There you go, you were just guests anyways
Meh, CONMEBOL and the FMF will come to an agreement and the teams will be back. If Mexican teams didn't bring anything to the table they would've kicked us out a long time ago.
too far...besides, lets not forget that Conmebol ALREADY invites two US teams....the national team for Copa America and DC United for Copa Sudamericana.
