It may be a long shot but definitely worth the try if you want to see Maldini in a Italy shirt again... http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/ed...aign-for-paolo-maldini-to-play-against-brazil
Here is his match rating against Genoa today....he was man of the match! Maldini 8 -Partita favolosa. Si trova di frontelo spauracchio Milito e ingaggia un duello fatto di classe e forza fisica nel quale non molla un centimetro all`argentino. Sembra ancora un ragazzino.
italian ratings are so messed up. maldini was good, but they gave nesta an 8 with his netherlands match in euro 2000...unless defenders score multiple goals they never give a defender an 8 unless it is a truly epic performance. maldini had a good match, but in the area he lost his mark a couple of times, and wasn't perfect. to get an 8 is a little much, but yeah he did play well today. hopefully bonera can get healthy and provide a decent partner soon
I remember that! Nesta and Cannavaro played great matches but they both blew it at the end when it counted....
italy advanced that match, the france match wasn't really blowing it, and nesta definitely wasn't involved on the goals versus france anyways, it was iuliano and canna, but that's neither here nor there...
I don't know I remember Canna for sure and I am pretty sure Nesta was in on it too....maybe we can you tube that goal?
it was canna and iuliano, but tbh it was kinda fluky right at the death of the tourney...really hurt that italy was that close to the second euro...but again that's neither here nor there, i was just using it as an example of the high standard they usually hold defenders too before they give an 8

Maldini -6,5: questo ragazzino di 40 anni ha ancora molto da dare al calcio italiano. Corre tantissimo e riesce a fermare giocatori ben più veloci di lui Maldini -6,5: this 40 year old youngster still has a lot to give to the game of Italian soccer. a lot of running and he ends up stopping many more players who are faster than he is....
Maldini has been a great servant for Milan and won a lot as a player and captain. I think it is time for him to bid farewell to Milan now. He is not what he used to be and Nesta's absence has shown how critical he was for Milan's defence as in his absence our defence has been really poor this season reflecting a mid-table side. Maldini is desperate to go out as a winner but it was his own foolish mistake to carry on when he could have retired when he lifted the greatest European club trophy in the Athens sky even after being one of the poorest performers on the night. That was a strong indication for him to call it a day but his hunger to win the FIFA World Club Cup which is not a really big trophy made him prolong his career unnecessarily. The result was that Milan went from bad to worse after Athens. Ever since that time Milan has been going downhill and now Maldini is having second thoughts to play on. On merit he can't start for other teams. It's time for him to leave.

Only a few more games until we only see him in youtube infamy. I have never known a Milan without Maldini and I cant even imagine what our defense would look like without him. Depressing. No player can ever completely define a club, but Maldini has come closer to it than most. Ronaldo and Zidane talk about him as well.
