^^^Personally, i rather them mess with Copa Sudamericana, restructure it so its a South America with reps of concacaf in it, like say 3 best of conacaf, vs. south america's best. Schedule it in so the best MLS and mexican teams can play, leave copa libertadores for south american teams ONLY!! But if mexicans stay in the copa libertadores, i'd be about MLS being in there at least 1 team if mexican teams get to stay....

    Thats just my opinion though.

Travel could be a big issue if Seattle or Toronto were the best of MLS...and
had to be invited to LIB. Since Traffic Group of Brazil organizes Copa LIB and owns Miami FC of USL, maybe they could start a "southern cup" of the 3 USL teams in the south (pr, miami, austin) and four MLS teams (hou, dallas, LA, LA Chivas). Then conmebol could announce a few months later that the winner of southern cup would be invited to Lib. This would extend Copa Lib to S. Florida market or LA market- just to test those big markets to see how it goes. I mean, how much further is it to travel to monterrey from argentina then from buenos aires to miami or LA? USA has better airlines then Mexico, so it wouldnt be like 16hours from Argentina to mexico.

I have no problem with the MLS fighting for a spot in the Copa Lib, the new interliga should be 2 clubs from the MLS, 2 Clubs from mexico and 2 Clubs from whatever country. Honduras or Costa rica.. And yes Airlines are much better going to USA.. I'll bit my tongue :D

To what i've been told CONCACAF doesn't allow Mexico to send their best to the Libertadores(They have to go to the CONCACAF Champion's League), not only that the Sudamericana is mess as it is(and a waste) there would be no proper time for such since the CONCACAF Champion's League uses a whole season span(Which is probably the only thing CONMEBOL should learn from CONCACAF).

it's hard to make one year long copa libertadores, dont forget that many player emigrate to other nations right after may or june.

i would also like to have a libertadores ending in late november or so, but it's pretty hard, plus since we just got used to have matches been played every single week, i think that i would also be hard for us to get used to see matches once a month!

if libertadores is extended in time, i would like to see more teams, and wouldnt matter to see 6 or 8 teams from concacaf(including mexico already), but increasing te number of competitors to 48 or so!

    i was thinking maybe
sudamericana could be replaced by a copa panamericana. I know that was tried in phoenix a few years ago...with dreadful results in terms of attendance. Maybe it could be tried again, elsewhere, and with 18 teams- 6 of which would be from concacaf. This would get MLS' feet wet with serious international play, while not going headlong into libertadores. Actually, i think only about 2 MLS teams would ever get invited to Lib, if they did push for it.
This thread should really be called "MLS in international play". Its that international context that is really important for raising MLS profile with its own fans, let alone the outside world. You can bring Theirry Henry, David Silva, etc. to MLS teams...but after a year or so, the attendance will start to go back down as those stars will simply be seen as big fish in a still little pond. Whole MLS teams cant afford 6, 8 or 10 stars at the pay rate of Europe. More MLS teams need to play teams from marque leagues. Perhaps the Euro club championship tour that is going on during the summer (inter, chelsea, america) could be expanded, with those games against MLS teams actually counting in MLS league standings(2pts for win). At the end of the season, the top two performing foreign teams could be invited back to compete in semifinals for MLS cup...if they come, good. If not, then no harm. The MLS champion would simply be the best performing MLS teams, even if they were to get blown away by an Inter or a Chelsea. With more international play, people would come to respect MLS. It would be like the old days of NASL....just bring whole teams form Euro to boost our league. Its their brand names that MLS would be banking on...until we build our own. Euro teams would have a marketable playground to prepare for their own seasons.

PanAmerican Cup? That sounds Fantastic because as of right now. The Brasilians gives two $&*T$ about the Copa Sudamericana, as you can tell about their Record in the cup and Argentines club are already sending B-Teams like Boca did last year..let's change the name, add about 60 clubs, Increase travel time and Immunization shots.. I'm sure most Brasilians and Argentines or for that matter most South American will disregard their Domestic Championships so we can go prove how good we are against some club in El Salvador.. GREAT IDEA!!!

There's the key, probably it shouldn't in November but end around the same time it does now, but starting in August? Here, a couple of reasons of why it wouldn't be such a bad idea.

1- Ending in October/November would be too close to the CWC.
2- I think the majority of players from this region that go to Europe leave in the western european off-season(aka July/early August), even ones that go to Russia(for whatever reason).
3- There really wouldn't be a need to make a joke of a "2nd cup" like the Sudamericana.

Now it could bring some cons, though, bah in reality i can only think of one.

1- The majority of the leagues move in a different seasonal calendar(using the yearly calendar), except for three(Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela), thus it would be a bit difficult to come up with a qualifying system(though the majority may have this trouble with the Sudamericana schedule already). Some could get to move then it would be complicated doing so with Brazil, with the state championships.

Now about a "Panamericana" the only thing i'd say is, gather the finalists of both Libertadores and CCL, pick a random country, the winner plays the runner-up of the other place, the losers meet in a match for the bronze and the winners meet in the final, voila. I don't think it's really needed however.

the Nissan sudamericana is a joke, if we would invite Mexies and Gringos, it would be cool to invite Europeans as well and make an international Competition played in south American soil... Milan vs Real Potosi :p

We already had Nacional-Nacional this year on the Libertadores, in top of that the paraguayan Nacional defeated El Nacional in the qualifying round.:D

The old Caracas classic wasn't between Caracas FC and another club called Maritimo after a portuguese club?
