With a nod to great mods of the past, this thread is to give some basic guidelines for posting in this forum. As you may have noticed, threads qualifying as news and analysis have been fewer and farther between recently, so we are going to be stricter about what threads get moved to USA Men.

For some basic ideas of what threads belong in USA Men News & Analysis, we are defining some of the threads that don't belong -- these are some but not all of the kinds of threads that should be started next door and not in USA N&A:

    1. Here's my lineup threads, roster speculation.
    2. My fringe player should be called up threads.
    3. Joke threads.
    4. 2010 threads.
    5. Score prediction threads.
    6. I have a random question threads.
    7. Hot National teamer appreciation threads.
    8. X player should never wear the National Team jersey again.
    9. Fan related threads like new jerseys, nick names, etc.
    10. Media threads related to the announcers, ESPN, etc.
    11. Mike Lastort has posted in your thread - it's often the kiss of death. :p
    12. Chat posts that are the start of a thread.

NOTE: Threads will no longer be moved with a link left behind so when your thread disappears, please look in USA Men, or search on your username. Please also take a moment to read the forum before starting a new thread. We have lots of repetition and many threads end up being merged. There are no bonus points for starting a new thread.

Also note that we are strictly enforcing bans from this forum for posters that don't conduct themselves with some self-control - personal attacks will get you tossed. If you are interested in chatting and joking around, it's completely fine in USA Men. Starting inappropriate threads here may also result in losing access to the forum.

Any questions, send me or one of the mods a PM.

    Thanks.

    APPENDIX
Some ideas of threads that are appropriate for this forum:

    1. Post game threads - evaluating Forwards, Midfield, Defense, GKs, Coaches
    5. Discussion of the referees.
    6. Discussion of opponents.
    7. Player ratings
    8. MOTM thread.
    9. Discussion of next match.
    10. Injuries.
    11. Press reports, News, articles, pre- and post-match reports.

    DK and moderators all:

I think it's time to take a fresh look at thread-starting in N&A.

    1) I posted a thread this morning that still hasn't surfaced - anywhere, as far as I can tell. {No great loss and not really time sensitive - just another run-of-the-mill USMNT article to talk about.}

    2) The last N&A thread I posted simply evaporated. I can't even remember when/what it was about.

    3) I've taken to starting my occasional threads in USA Men to avoid the long wait and mystery of N&A.

    4) I think others may be similarly discouraged.

    5) A quick review of current N&A threads reveals that while there is active discussion on threads that have been around for two weeks or more, not a single active thread was started within the past two weeks.

    6) I would like to find a happy middle ground, with a bit more active moderation, not just in moving threads from N&A to USA Men (see, e.g., Mourinho) but in taking worthy threads the other way from USA Men to N&A.

An obvious current example would be the roster/lineup thread for the next friendly, the sort of thread that until recently was the staple of N&A. I realize that 'pure speculation' is now out of favor, but I feel a well-reasoned first post usually leads to further analysis (as opposed to ungrounded fantasy).

Anyway, if I'm alone in feeling that N&A has lost some zest recently, my apologies. But I for one would like to see more N&A threads being started, given the relative ease with which the sillier ones die (or get moved).

I'm going to try leaving it off again - I agree that there is some life missing and we lost one of our mods recently.

Too bad it wasn't you. Please explain why my thread about Twellman/Noonan was deleted when there was a developing theme about the virtues of either player regarding the national team. In other words ANALYSIS! The moment you die will never be soon enough.

Man - that's a horrible thing to say to someone even over the internet. But at least it was for a good reason.

You're right. I apologize for such an over the top post about you. You, or anyone for that matter doesn't deserve that. Again, I am deeply sorry and embarrassed for writing something so stupid.

Re: Dude! Where's my thread?!? 2007 Edition

A general question for our fearless moderators. Is there a posting guide/rulebook for this forum? I was just given a warning for the "offense" of posting the entire text of a (very pertinent) article on Adu into a thread on Adu. My posting was axed, and I received a warning, even though my posting clearly credited the original author of the article.

Where are the posting guidelines? Other than the very general guidelines in the first post of this thread, I have found none. The ones in the first post of this thread certainly don't apply to my particular post.

How is a supposed "rule" that we not copy the text of some other item justified?

I'm not trying to cause trouble here, I'm just feeling blind-sided to be yellow-carded for not following a rule where no apparent rule book exists.

    Did you even look?

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/faq.php

Have you read the Terms of Service?

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=985213

You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.

Not posting full articles is basically a community guideline THROUGHOUT BigSoccer. Not just for US N&A.

Perhaps it would have been smarter of you to actually poke around a little bit before making a public scene of all this. At least we can use this as a public service announcement.

As I mentioned in my message - this rule helps protect this site and helps support soccer writers out there who are trying to make a living doing this kind of thing.

This is not a yellow card offense - it's not even an infraction - just a way to convey the rule without inhibiting your ability to post.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the clarifications.

Hopefully having this exchange in the N&A forum (not just in the terms of service) will help others who might not know that we can't paste in the entire text of articles/blogs, even if you clearly credit the original source.

Bump - now that there's a break in World Cup qualifiers, could the mods please clean up the crap in this forum?

Hmm, I wonder if that's even possible.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, but it has gotten a bit out of hand, I agree. Mods, please delete all N&A threads except those I have posted in. ;)

Well, you could just go around posting in all the threads you want cleaned up, thereby satisfying rule 11, supra. :D

I started a thread on Bradley and the needed replacement and I guess it was removed... very unfortunate. I do not need to waste my time in this forum anymore and I am sure BigSoccer.Com will quit sending me emails to get in here again. And then enjoy next year when Bradley takes USA into the ruins.

Re: Dude! Where's my thread?!? 2007 Edition

I started a thread to discuss Mo Edu's comeback, and I linked an article that came out that day in the Telegraph that has a ton of information and quotes from him about his upcoming year with the USMNT. Deleted, apparently.

BS mods suck, they delete relevant threads and then keep the most random crap. It looks like if you pay for premium status or if you post all the time you can start a thread, but if you're an avid reader but rarely post you have no chance.

    I'm done with this site.

So not a single reply to analyze Edu's situation coming back to Rangers? Like how their CDMs and CBs have been showing, his prospects for starting, etc. Well then I guess I need to expand my comment to say that the entire BS community sucks :D

I don't know what I was thinking starting a thread that asked for real information/analysis. Should've gone with another Fredd fanboy thread if I wanted to generate discussion.

Yeah, because some injured player in a minor league is going to generate a lot of discussion on the night of an emotional world cup qualifying tie.

Gah, you moderators should be ashamed of yourself for being so on point and honest. Geez, wtf is it with people and doing their jobs?

    :p

For real though, public thanks for keeping the forum clean. It's a lot better than most other places on the internet
