I would like to see the both of them sign too. Ive talked to Alcantara on fb and he is a very good guy. I hope the Battery announce something soon on signing him.

Good sources say that Reynier Alcantara refused to sign the ridiculous offer from the Charleston Battery and the signing for the Bermudez (Cuban defender) is still unclear. I have no clue nor understand the Battery's state of mind, but I guess they are under the impression that a Cuban refugee could be desperate enough that he will take any crappy offer thrown at him. WRONG! Unfortunately, in this case the results are losing a very fit, quality player with years of international experience to a college kid that will end up costing more money. Way to go Anhauser…you’re so smart! Real pisser for the fans though.....

Bermudez didnt impress me during the Carolina Challenge Cup, That said it would be tough breaking into that defense.

Alcantara and pedro both looked pretty useful during the CCC. I hope they can work something out.

Alcántara came to the Battery 3 weeks ago from San Jose Earthquake's training camp were he was promised better pay and playing time in Charleston. Unfortunately negotiations broke down and it seems like we will not see Alcántara suit up in a Battery Jersey this season as he has left training camp today. Later I will post more details on Alcántara's treatment from the Battery and indeed very personal and not in any shape or form business!

Most of us have no idea what goes on with player negotiations or salaries (at least I'm in that pile) so we're just guessing here. Alcantara has had a bunch of trials with MLS clubs, not sure who else in USL but he still is without a contract. That tells you something. I assume he has an agent and it's possible that his agent is trying to get him to hold out for more $$$, that's his job. Maybe the Battery offer was crap, I don't know. But it is a business. A player wants as much as he can get and the club wants to pay as little as possible. Hopefully, they're still talking. I think one of the problems facing Cubans is that, compared to most other players, they're still relatively unknown which means there's more risk involved if you sign them. Yes, most of them have played some on the Cuban National Team and that experience is out there for folks to evaluate but their time playing for Cuban clubs is not going to help them at all.

thats too bad. I hope he finds what he is looking for. I know the Battery is looking for a forward to add to Patterson and Fuller. Not many teams are going to take the chance on a relatively unknown forward, especially one that takes an international slot and will need to put out a few thousand dollars to have a work permit processed.

Im surprised he felt ill treated though. Most players speak well of the Battery even, after they leave.

but Im not sure this is the place to air out Alcantara's problems. It might hurt his efforts in finding another team. There are too many players out there right now looking for roster spots and other teams might not want soemone who might be preceived as a problem off the field?

Having a bunch of trials with MLS clubs means nothing! Alonso also was on trial last year with both Chivas and the Galaxy and no one wanted him then either but ended up with the Battery who took a chance and look at the results now.... Same is true for Galindo who was with the Sounders USL-1 team for 2 years before he moved up to MLS with the Chivas USA. Alcantara is an international player who has capped more than 90 games for the Cuban National team and scored 50 goals and some want to compare this to a College kid or a USL-1 veteren who is the pride and joy of Anhaeuser? Please....

I'm not looking for a fight but Alcantara was capped 18 times for the Cuban National Team with 10 goals. The 90 appearances & 50 goals were with his Cuban club team FC Pinar del Río.

    I won't argue that!

Trust me, we're on the same sheet of music, those who have seen him play want him signed with the Battery.

And I'll assume Lazo isn't coming back? Whenever the indoor boys are mentioned, it's always Patterson and Armstrong, Lazo is never mentioned anymore.

Alonso was offer a developmental contract with Chivas. That offer was $12K for 12 months. The Battery signed him to a two year contract offering him more money and playing time. Not sure we'll hear what Alcantara was offered, other clubs might offer more, quite a few will offer less. But a couple weeks before the season starts, when most clubs have spent there roster budgets, I cant imagine the offers are going to be substantial.

The Charleston Battery has signed veteran defender Matt Bobo and Japanese midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake for the upcoming USL First Division season; both players sign pending USSF approval. Bobo has spent the last three years with the USL1 Atlanta Silverbacks while Yoshitake comes to the Battery from Japanese Club, Tokyo Verdy 1969. Both players featured for the Charleston Battery during the recent Carolina Challenge Cup MLS games.

Charleston Battery head coach, Mike Anhaeuser,

“Both players will add experience to our roster as we look ahead to the start of the season. Matt has been a solid defender in our league for a long time now and we are excited to have him. Yoshi will bring an attacking flair and some excitement to our wings and also has some crafty dribbling ability that should cause some problems for opposing teams.”

Veteran defender Matt Bobo comes to the Battery after spending the last three seasons with the Atlanta Silverbacks. A native of Des Moines, IA, Bobo 6-1, 180 lbs., 31 yrs., played a total of 79 games for the Silverbacks recording 2 goals and 2 assists.

Prior to Atlanta Bobo also had spells with the Richmond Kickers and the Milwaukee Wave United, where he was a member of the championship winning team in 2002. Before turning pro Bobo attended Eastern Illinois University and the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Bobo also won consecutive PDL championships with the Chicago Sockers.

A native of Mie Prefecture, Japan, Tsuyoshi Yoshitake comes to the Charleston Battery from Japanese Club Tokyo Verdy 1969 (J1) where he has spent the past two seasons.

Prior to joining Tokyo Verdy 1969, Yoshitake, 5-8, 162 lbs., 27 yrs., played for Yokohama FC from 2000 – 2006 and won promotion with them to the J1 League in 2006. Yoshitake’s career J-League totals include 150 games played with 15 goals and 10 assists.

May be I wrong but I think that Alcantara is heading to Miami, the Blues are the only team that has not expent any money in players so far, them looking for support and Alcantara can help atracting cubans fans that has been see him in all the latin channels in Miami, after he left the team last year he became in a celebrity. He was invited to all kind of programs plus is a coincidence that he left the team today and Miami open camp tomorrow or... isn't? lets way and see. Personally I prefer see him with the gold and black stripes of Charleston. I just began follow the Battery after sing Alonso last year but the team still my heart and I become in one more of his fans
I hope every body can understand my english

So Miami IS going to keep their team going? They need any help they can get, when it comes to drawing a crowd down there. I don't how, they thought they could support another MLS team.

Mikey Mouse; I don't know where you get your information but Alonso did not have any offer from Chivas ever! He was let go after a 3 week trial with the team and the battery signed him last year to a 2 year contract which I will not disclose the terms, but I can tell you that the Seattle Sounders paid a substantial amount of money for his transfer from the Battery. I am not blowing hot air as I know Alonso personally and we talk on regular basis. For the record, developmental MLS contracts are for domestic young, mostly college players breaking ground into the league. True that timing isn't all great for Alcantara but hopefully will get picked up soon.

Ischia05, you are probably right but I remember last year that I saw Chivas offered him a contract, so Mikey must of just had wrong information. Mikey 99% of the time hits the nail perfect. He knows what he is talking about.

:eek: Faife was cut from the team, this is really shocking I just heard good thinks about him I was spected that Bermudez are the one that Battery let it go, since I really don't see spot for him in the defence
