Below is the list of players that have already signed for the 2009 season: Nelson Akwari, defender Stephen Armstrong, midfielder/forward Domonic Cianciarulo, midfielder/forward Ian Fuller, midfielder/forward Dusty Hudock, keeper David Kenga, midfielder/forward Randi Patterson, striker Mike Richardson, midfielder/forward Frankie Sanfilippo, defender Darren Spicer, midfielder/forward Keith Wiggans, keeper Chris Williams, midfielder John Wilson, defender
I have to agree with what Andrew Miller posted in his blog... I think we see a more consistent Randi Patterson this term. He really fell off the face of the earth in the second half last term, but I am not sure why. Here's to hoping that changes. A few more goals last year would have made for a very different situation for the Battery.
Plus, the 1st half of the season for him could have just been FM......F***ing Magic. Players in any sport can go on a streak and there's no explaining it.

I happy to see that Alcantara is still on the roster, I think that San José play dirty with him, made him go all the way over there, after the Charlestton put him on the roster to don't even put in one game
Nigel Codrington has been the mainstay on Guyana's national team and has always been one of the leading scores in the Trinidad and Tobago Pro-League, he is extremely quick and has power is both of his feet. He will provide lots of goals for the Battery. O’Brian Woodbine is only 20 years old and is already a member of Jamaica’s senior team. He should add some strength to the defense. According to Mike Anhaeuser, Alcántara is still with the Earthquakes and should return to Charleston this week. Good luck to the Battery and let's pray that the win the CCC this year.
The San Jose forum is reporting he was there for only 2 days and then left. Here's a link to the story: http://www.centerlinesoccer.com/http:/www.centerlinesoccer.com/trialists-and-tribulations/ Maybe he's trialing with someone else.....
Alcántara entered the last 15min of the match vs. Toronto on Saturday. Coach Anuhauser had mentioned earlier last week that he was not sure when Alcántara would be getting back from the San Jose Earthquakes. I am sure we will see more of him in the next two games and I believe he will be signed as he obviously has talent, speed and is in top physical condition. The Cuban experience with Osvaldo Alonso last year could clear the path for more talented players like Alcántara to break ground in American Soccer and I wouldn’t be surprised that he will bring the Battery much needed strength up front the team desperately needs. The other 2 Cuban players, Fife and Bermudez have been in training with the Battery all last week and therefore got more play time. They too looked impressive but I did notice Fife to be a bit out of breath. Looking forward to Wednesday with Real Salt Lake and I wonder if anyone here knows if the game would be streamed live anywhere on the Internet? Let me know….
The USL First Division Charleston Battery has added three players to its roster for the upcoming season. Jamaican national team defender O’Brian Woodbine, midfielders Kenji Treschuk and Tyler Hemming all join the Battery pending USSF approval; all three players featured for Charleston in the recent Carolina Challenge Cup. Jamaican defender O’Brian Woodbine joins the Charleston Battery from Jamaican Premier League side Reno FC. Woodbine, 6-0, 170 lbs., 20 yrs is a current member of the Jamaican Men’s National team. Midfielder Kenji Treschuk arrives in Charleston after playing two years with the Seattle Sounders. Treschuk played in 53 games for Seattle scoring three goals and was a member of Seattle’s 2007 Championship winning team. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Treschuk, 5-11, 170 lbs., 26 yrs., played college soccer at Penn State University. Midfielder Tyler Hemming joins the Battery after spending the 2007 & 2008 seasons with Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. Prior to turning pro Hemming was a four-year starter at Hartwick College and was named the Atlantic Soccer Conference Player of the Year in two consecutive years. Hemming, 6-0, 175 lbs., 23 yrs., is a native of London, Ontario is a former member of the Canadian U20 men’s national team.
All three I fell are good pick ups. Woodbine and Hemmings were pretty solid throughout the the tourney. Treschuk had some good moments as well but seem a little gased in the last match. I hope Yoshi is another name we hear in a few days ( I know the Battery like to keep the announcements spaces to keep a buzz going) I think Indoor ends the first part of April so hope Armstrong and Patterson begin to gel with the team. Mikey
Yoshi has to be in the mix. In Andrew's latest blog, he says there's another 3 players waiting to be announced. Like Mikey said, probably waiting to space it out or waiting on paperwork. On foreign players, you have to get clearance from their national association that they're not under contract with any other club. You would think though that the Japanese would be efficient. Little trivia bit: When we had Ugo the first year, remember it took forever to get his clearance? The African FA wanted us to give them $500 for the paperwork, i.e. a bribe. (I could probably find me a job with the African FA....)
Yoshi HAS to be on the team...the way he performed during all 3 games it'll be a shock....and shame....not to take him
Yoshi said he had signed, when another Battery Fan asked him in the pub last Saturday night, Bobo too.
