You are correct there is tons of corruption. FIFA cant get involved until the corrupt UNCAF and CONCACAF officials get bypassed. They protect the Nicraguan FA's president because he has dirt on them as well. There IS clear evidence of all of this but, unfortunately one needs a good amount of money in order to secure the proper legal consel in order to take this issue to the proper authorities. The press is all over it all the time, the entire country knows about it. The president of the Nicaraguan FA was also the president of the Nicaraguan olympic committee and was recently kicked off of the olympic committee because of corruption. The Nicraguan federal government had to step in because of so much corruption. I have invested my personal finances and tried for years but, unless you have SUBSTANTIAL resources it's no use. Links to a few articles about the government intervention with the olympic committee. The result is going to be the same, nothing is going to be done because those supporting the intervention are not as well backed financially as the corrupt Julio Rocha (Olympic committee and nicaraguan FA president). http://www.pinolerosports.com/content/view/2780/1/ http://www.pinolerosports.com/content/view/2783/1/ http://www.pinolerosports.com/content/view/2816/1/

Well at least all you nicaraguans have something to be happy about, what with the socialist presence in your country. thats a shame, but oh well. at least you guys are in the gold cup! congrats!
I'm really proud of Nicaragua. They've always been my second favourite team in the region, simply for the fact that they are always the underdogs and don't have many of the same privileges that other countries have, especially when it comes to footballing resources. Great to see them qualify. Hopefully the country supports it's team and they can show that they can be competative during the Gold Cup like they did here.
Histórico triunfo de Nicaragua en futbol Props to Nicaragua, a nation with a lot of serious problems. It´s good to see them finally reach this stage.
Myself being a Nicaraguan I am very proud of my team and Im even more happy by the support you guys give us regardless of what team you support, it really means a lot that you guys are proud to see Nicaraguan football slowly but surely growing and hopefully we can continue our competitiveness in this summers gold cup. Good luck to all of you and thanks for your support!
FIFA rankings preview Nicaragua is expected to be this months biggest mover in the FIFA rankings and reach it's highest ever ranking at 132 (previous best was 150 in late 1993). Hopefully it happens
Congrats Again, hopefully the country and your federation gets behind the team and you can continue to improve.
It's unfortunate that there are serious corruption/political problems in Nicaragua (and in Central America as a whole.) Costa Rica abolishing its military in 1949, along with a long-standing democratic government, and maintaining decent relations with the United States and Europe (as opposed to the political repression and civil wars elsewhere) allowed us to focus on building our football program up. I hope Nicaragua and others can finally get theirs going, but there seems to be a shadow over their program. Former Communist president Daniel Ortega who was recently re-elected, put alot of emphasis on developing sports (taking his cue from what the Soviets and Cubans did during the Cold War to put an attractive face on their regime, and help unify the country.) Nicaragua's second-biggest club (Walter Ferretti) was founded by Sandinista soldiers during the late 1980s, and was renamed after one when he died in the early 1990s. They have recently changed the team's official colors to red and black (colors of the Sandinista flag.) Their rivals Real Esteli also have the Sandinista flag flying over their office. In the unlikely even that Nicaragua does well in the Gold Cup (sorry for sounding pessimistic,) I expect to see Daniel Ortega using it in his favor in some way.
Hey I am intrested in finding out the coaching history of the nicaraguan national football team if anyone can give their names and date or peroid when the coached the national team would be much appreciated
I can give you the history for the period of time that I was with the squad... Dates are approximate only... 2001-2004 Mauricio Battistini (Italian) 2004-2005 Marcelo Zuleta (Argentina) 2005 Mauricio Cruz, Interim(Nicaragua) 2006-2007 Carlos De Toro (Argentina) 2007-2008 Mauricio Cruz (Nicaragua) 2008-Present Otoniel Olivas (Nicaragua) The Italian was one of the best coaches I've ever seen. He was a former director of youth development at Parma. He left Nicaragua when Parmalat folded and pulled their financial support from their Central American division. He went on to coach in the Swiss second division. Great person and amazing coach! The 2 Argentinians tried to elicit bribes from the 2-3 of us that were coming from overseas. Completely unscrupulous individuals. The first Nicaraguan coach was incompetent and only named head coach because he is a "yes man" for Nicaraguan FA. This new guy is pretty decent from what I hear. The players tell me he is a good guy and coach. Unfortunately he doesn't get the support he needs because the president of the FA is too busy stuffing his own pockets with the money from the UNCAF Nations Cup wins instead of redistributing it and using it to make the team better. That's all I could think of off the top of my head. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Ya, i was in and out from U20 all the way to the senior level. The last time I was with the team was for the 2007 UNCAF Nations Cup. I bailed after the coach tried extort me. I regret ever taking part in that circus they call a football federation. Below is a link to the 2007 UNCAF Nations Cup roster and the roster for some friendlies we played from the Nicaraguan FA's website. (should note that the website is not accurate, out of date, and looks like it was designed by a 3 year old) http://www.fenifut.org.ni/docs/Lista Mayor C.R. 3-01-07.xls http://www.fenifut.org.ni/notas-prensa/Nomina-Copa-Naciones-2007.xls
