though decision about that ranking i wouldnt give an specific order, but i wouldnt include river, velez or palmeiras.... i would put instead nacional, olimpia, even america de cali!!!!!, and probablt colo colo because of their one title, and the number of times they have make it to the libertadores not sure about estudiantes, they obtained 3 titles, but.... what happened after that?
Not include River? Were you born this decade, or did you see any of the team's glorious history? It isn't a coincidence that FIFA chose River as the 8th best team of the 20th Century, and the best from South America (or non-European) team in the world. It is true that this decade hasn't been the brightest, but the team's history covers up the last few years. The 33 Argentine tournaments, the Copa Libertadores' (won it twice and are currently the Argentine team to have won the most Libertadores games), the three tri-campeonatos (Boca, for example, never won a single one), the talent-making machine (who gave you the Mascherano's, the Ayala's, the D'Alessandro's, the Aimar's, the Saviola's, the Ramon Diaz's, the Alonso's, etc.?... the list goes on for ever), "La Maquina" team before the Libertadores even existed. I think there's no question about River being one of the best South American clubs historically, let alone in the top 10.
you said it la maquina before the copa libertadores existed 33 national championships im talking about teams and their participacion in libertadores....
But Futjol's list wasn't about teams participation in Libertadores. It was what he considered "history's best teams of Latin America". But even if it was the top 10 of the Libertadores, River is still in the top 10 to have won it the most times. And you mentioned you'd include America de Cali. Umm, how many times have they won the Libertadores? I'll give you a clue, it's the same amount of times any team from your country has won it. So where's your logic? Are you sure it isn't just because you support Boca that you're saying this?
ohhhhhhhh im talking about libertadores, not overall america de casli have acceded the final 3 times, and they have done preetty good in other editions..
Yeah, so? River have been to the finals 4 times, winning it twice (coincidently beating America de Cali both times ).
His list is biased towards those teams who have done well and won in the CL. Why else would Independiente be so high?
Yeah, I understand that he was taking the Copa Libertadores into account when creating the rankings, but my point is that that wasn't solely what he was basing it on. He was basing it on history, meaning International & local tournaments alike.
Flamengo = 5 time Brazilian champ, 2nd to Sao Paulo who has 6. One Libertadores, one Mundial and one Mercosul. Definitely top 10.
Other Brazilian teams that you mentioned: Cruzeiro: 1 Brazilian title, 2 Libertadores. Santos: 2 Brazilian titles, 2 Libertadores and Mundials. Palmeiras: 4 Brazilian titles, 1 Libertadores, 1 Mercosul. Gremio: 2 Brazilian titles, 2 Libertadores, 1 Mundial I accept SPFC and maybe Santos.
im just referring to COPA LIBERTADORES i think boca is the best team, they did good in the lat 70's, had some participations in the 60's and 80's, did good at the end of the 90's, and on the beginning of this new decada the second place? i really would put sao paolo, even though their success is recently then third place? independiente, penarol, nacional fourth? olimpia, colo colo, cruzeiro america de cali fifht? flamengo, vasco, inter, gremio, estudiantes, river, santos,
But you counted Palmeiras and Cruzeiro, both who haven't won their Intercontinental games. You have pretty much simplified "history" into winners and runners-up of the CL and ranked them in order of who won them the most. History has other factors.
Theres clubs who have a better performance than other clubs who have more titles. Like how many points they get, teams they beat etc.
