    http://www.examiner.com/x-413-Seattl...rs-and-Seattle

Wow, this is very good for the MLS, He was the top scorer in the Colombian League and now Seattle got him, im telling you this guy is going to school everybody in the league, I think the sounders now have a good chance of being an over .500 team. Damn im Colombian and ima go buy a Sounders Jersey with Montero on the back haha, he from my hometown. Seattle definitely my substitute team til Miami comes around. Go Sounders. He is going to change face of MLS......:D

The list of international badasses who came to MLS and utterly failed is huge.

    We'll see about this one.

Still, kudos for the Sounders for landing a young South American player in his prime who seems to have nothing but upside and may be able to deliver from the get go. Not bad for an expansion team to land a player a La Liga team was after (Real Betis) and was the Golden Boot winner in Colombia.

I still can't figure out how they pulled off this seeming coup - acquiring 67% of his rights and so forth - when a team that's been around a lot longer - say Houston, e.g., - is still looking for that forward to play with Ching and head into the CCL with. Got to give Seattle credit IMHO..

Yes, good play by Seattle. It would be interesting to see how they penciled this out money-wise. They already have a DP in Lyungberg, and I imagine Montero did not come cheap.

According to Ives, the Sounders and MLS have secured the services of Fredy Montero of Deportivo Cali. I gotta sayI like this signing. This Fredy is more likely to make an impact than the other, oft injured Freddie they signed. The rumor has swirled for a while so I'm glad it became reality. I saw Montero play in either the Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana, can't remember which one, but he made me really pay attention to the match with skill set, speed, and awareness. He has a bit of flair which I love but playing in a simplistic, smart manner is his bread and butter. The guy can play and it is a huge swoop for MLS. Kudos for the Sounders for pulling this off.

Impressive Signing by Seattle. Seems rest of MLS is asleep at the wheel.

Easy connection. Montero is from Colombia. Colombia is known for its coffee. Seattle is also known for its coffee. Coincidence?

Seattle started off the year with 5 signed players and was told to get that up to 24. The rest of the MLS teams started with 28 players and were told to cut down to 24. The draft was just a week ago, giving each existing team at least 2-3 more players, and in some cases up to 6 more players, to fit into a 24 man roster. What do you expect?

I'm not trying to be a tin-hat conspiracy theorist, but I have to ask: what is stopping say Microsoft from paying this kid a million dollars to do a X-box commercial in Columbia?

It wouldn't be his salary, so not subject to salary cap.

Just thinking of ways around the cap.

There is another thing Colombia and Seattle are both known for... and I'm not talking grunge rockers.

This looks to be a good player, but we've seen Latin American stars come here and bite hard.

I've seen some footage of Montero in action and I must say, the Kid is a pretty good Striker. Good signing on the part of Seattle if you ask Me.

He's younger, scored some amazing goals, still with his national team.

Galvan Rey was old and scored two goals against fat wash-up Paraguayan.

Avila was old, but did OK.

I think the rumor that some unknown entity owns 33% of his "pass" is what helped MLS here. While I'm overjoyed at the league finally getting the sort of young, talented South American player I've wanted for years, I'd bet there's something else behind the scenes.

This might be somewhat similar to the whole Tevez-Mascherano to Corinthians via Joorabchian and partially-owned passes mess that eventually blew up on West Ham, we'll have to see. People scratched their heads on that one, as well.

And Seattle, in this case, is Corinthians.
