The MLS Cup winners have barely received their trophy, and off we go to the next big deal in MLS land: Wednesday's expansion draft. Please use this thread as protected/available lists become known, and for speculation and the like.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_MLS_Expansion_Draft I'll be updating that page when the protected lists come in.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Way excellent coverage for a few weeks now from... http://wvhooligan.com/?s=expansion+draft
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread I wonder if the 2 subs made at the end yesterday for the CREW went in so they can expose them to some other teams? I mean otherwise why wold they be subbed in after the 90th minute when the game was already won? Columbus -- Hesmer, Hejduk, Marshall, O'Rourke, Padula, Gaven (Lenhart, 93+), Carroll, Evans, Rogers, Schelotto (Iro, 91+), Moreno.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Reward them for their contrabutions this season by letting them say they played with the Cup game.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Wow, that's quick. But I am pretty excited to see who else Seattle lands to go with Ljungberg and Keller.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread We also have this to watch for... Will Seattle be like Toronto (2007) and wheel and deal nearly all of their picks away, or will they be more like San Jose (2008) and hang on to their picks? Logic says the Sounders will play it somewhere in the middle. I'd imagine Seattle will be trading if a few guys they've 'targeted' are protected.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Steve Lenhart is from southern California (Yorba Linda) and had many of his friends and family in the stadium. Most of them in were sitting in my section. That might have been part of the reason Sigi gave the "hometown" boy some playing time.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread 2:30 to go till the teams have to submit their protected list to MLS, hopefully it doesn't take too long for the complete protected/unprotected list to show up.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Iro also went to school in SoCal. I'm surprised Sigi didn't get Ezra Henderickson (former Gal) in as as well. For those of you not familiar, Columbus has lots of SoCal guys: 1. Sigi Schmid: Head Coach; played and coached UCLA, then the Gals. Titles at both. 2. Mike Lapper: Assistant Coach; played at UCLA, played for Crew 3. Frankie Hejduk: Starting RB, USMNT, UCLA grad, Carfiff, CA. 4. Alejandro Moreno: Starting F, played for Sigi in LA for the Gals (winning in 2002) 5. Chad Marshall; Defender of the Year; Riverside, CA hometown, Stanford in college. 6. Brad Evans: starting CM, UC Irvine. 7. Andy Iro: Defender; played at UC Santa Barbara 8. Steven Lenhart; Forward; college at Azusa Pacific, Yorba Linda, CA hometown. 9. Ezra Hendrickson: Defender: played for Sigi in LA ('97-'03), and Chivas in '05. 10. Stefani Miglioranzi: Midfielder; played briefly with Gals in 2006.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Jeff Carlisle makes some guesses about who the Quakes might want to protect.

Re: The Expansion Draft Thread http://www.sltrib.com/ci_11063629 It sounds like the following was left unprotected for RSL. Rimando Williams Joy Deuchar Kovelenko Mathis Horst Kirby, Cutler, and Besagno were released.

Re: The Expansion Draft Thread Ives reports Revs send Cristman to KC for a 2009 3rd round Superdraft pick and an allocation. Presumably KC protects him; else why trade for him?
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2008/11/revs-trade-cristman-to-kansas-city.html
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread DC's likely reasoning is that Seattle already has two players with high salaries in Kasey Keller and Freddie Ljungberg, with Freddie using up the team's sole DP slot. DC United likely believes that Seattle would not be waste an expansion pick on another DP player with a high salary.
Re: The Expansion Draft Thread NE was going to have to leave either Cristman or Dube unprotected, so that explains that.
