Thanks Mikey.... been waiting for that announcement for awhile. I contacted the front office a little while ago and was waiting to hear back from them.

Going to send one or two players from our Galleons team on up there. I think our center back would be a perfect fit for the club...tall, seriously fit, quick and one of the most humble people you'll ever meet.

I'll be up there during Jan. 16-17. For any of you old skoolers, come on out and meet up with me for a pint in the parking lot for old times sake.:D

Come up on the 15th and the pub will be open for our Thursday night Over 35 & 45 league. There are always some ex-Battery players out there on the Over 35 side and most of the ownership play too.

There usually is a very wide range of talent and with a bunch of strangers thrown together & trying to play as a unit, it can be rough to watch. But come January, we're all into stage IV soccer withdrawal so we'd watch anything chase a ball......:D

even though i've been busy with a lot of stuff, i already tried for the galaxy, played semipro soccer in LA and trained for a few days with a pdl team so im not bad. street futbol is way too different from what you guys call soccer.

it will be cool, im going back to columbia in a few weeks so we will see how the training goes, i still have to check my credit card to see if i have some money available.

if not ill like to make contacts i know a few kats in LA that maybe interested in trying out for the Battery in the future.

Maybe one of my old boys from irmo high school decides he want to try out too.

Do they still do the Carolina Open Cup? I played that a few years and we got beat by a team from Charleston in semifinal, they were pretty good but i forgot the name of the team. There is just not enough competition at an adult level in columbia, I guess Charleston may be differente.

Yes, but the field looks great now, as the Winter rye has come in great and green. The Bermuda grass died earlier than usual with that cold snap back in October.

Should be a lot of players looking for teams this year with this comment from MLS Commish: In other news, Garber said that the reserve division would be eliminated and each team would be able to carry 18, 19 or 20 senior players on its roster. Teams could have many as four developmental players.

Went out today and watch soem of the trials

there are about 70 players that are attending and from about 17 different countries. This is the open trials ( the Feb trials are invite only)

the level isnt too bad but there was a wide gambit of talent.

I didnt really take any notes but there are few things that stuck in my mind.

Three of the Cuban defectors were there
Loami Cartaya, Yaikel Perex and Eril Garcia,

There was also a 15-year old from Mexico

There will be three games tomorrow (6 teams) starting at about 10am. they will be at the practice field. They said they might start a little late depending on how fast the frost leaves in the morning.

Any news about the cubans, I think for what I know I think Yaikel Perez is the best of those 3. He scored 17 goals in 9 games in the Puerto Profesional League.

Perez is a big boy. he looks more like a central defender (or American football linebacker!) He didnt do too much but I only watched him for about 60 min before I had to go. the other two I didnt get a chance to see for more than 15 min.

They were easy to spot though. all three still were wearing there cuban national team track suits.

Well Perez impressed every where he go. He was one of the finalist of "El Sueño FC Dallas" and in my opinion his age played against him, the Columbus Crew also was happy with him but the team not have space for him, finally he landed in PR (we all know that is a really a minor league, but almos 2 goals per game is a nice performance)

I think is the big guy on top, I had to mark him a couple of times, pretty quick for a big guy, but still slow, he'll have to lose some weight in order to play at a higher level.

did my thing, didnt make it but it was a nice trial, much more organized than the galaxy one.

there was a dude with a pony tail i think for Ecuador, for what I saw he was the best player on the trial.

good competition. i like the pub, the bar is awesome. coaches were really nice also.
