First, let me just say that the point of this thread is not to advertise my website, as obviously it is not even up yet. The point of this thread is to ascertain whether or not it would be worth my time and money (I really only need to pay for the domain) to put this together. I will use the poll results and replies to figure out whether or not I should go through with this. Before reading please note that none of the links will work Site: www.caribbeanfootballdatabase.com (the domain is available, I haven't bought it yet though Purpose: We all know that finding information on Caribbean football/soccer can be a pain in the butt, this site would centralize all of the information into one site. The goal right now is to get as much info dating back to 1995 on all teams and put it on the site. I realize it won't be possible to get each match and each teamsheet, so I'll just do the best I can. Home Page: This would mainly be just the landing spot. Example: http://dabofanclub.com/stories/caribbeanfootball/index.html Pay no heed to the stories currently on there, they're just examples to show what it would look like...they're just stories from my other site (dabofanclub). You may notice the long loading time, this is because of the fancy table on the left. The mouseover stuff is gone on the other pages. It would be easy to put back in if it were popular. Forum: This is not up yet The forum would have a sub-forum for each team in the Caribbean. The main point of this would be for the smaller countries whose FAs dont have websites or forums and basically need a home. For the bigger countries that do have forums (such as TnT/www.socawarriors.net or Jamaica/www.thereggaeboyz.com) I may just link to those sites Team Page: The main page for each team with links to Results, Players, and News Archive for each team. Would also have 10 latest news stories and a short bio on the team Example: http://dabofanclub.com/stories/caribbeanfootball/montserrat.html Match Page: This will provide info on one match...Venue, Date, Scorers, Teams, Unused Subs, Bookings, Referees, etc., etc. What is not in there right now is a link on each player and coach's name to their page (See below) Example: http://dabofanclub.com/stories/caribbeanfootball/montserratvssuriname3262008.html Player Page: This contains a little bit of info on each player, and maybe even a short bio. Goals, Caps, and Bookings and a few other things go here. There will be links to the matches as well. Example: http://dabofanclub.com/stories/caribbeanfootball/vladimirfarrell.html There are a few other things that I think should be self-explanatory. Please vote as honestly as possible. Also, it wouldn't just be Montserrat obviously, that was just the example.
I will visit it often, specially if you find time and/or human resources to update it daily and provide live caribbean football scores. CFU and Concacaf sites are jokes. (pst: create a link section for other caribbean football sites.)
I'm not sure about club information yet but International scores could be relatively easy to do. I got decent results at SocaWarriors and awful reviews at ReggaeBoyz, as of right now I'll probably go ahead with it though
That's Jamaicans for u lol. I think u underestimated the average Jamaicans "competitive spirit". Well I for one support any endeavor that would provide more info on Caribbean Football.
I saw ur posts over on the Reggae Boyz forum....nuh watch noting. Those same people that did a bun u down will frequent your site for information. I'm 100% in support of you on this one.
Thanks, I messed up the domain registration so I'm trying to get that transferred to my new host, when thats ready I'll start with the site
www.caribbeanfootballdatabase.com OK, the site is now up. I've completed six matches so far and they are up if you can find them. Right now I am in desperate need of contributors. I'll take anything, whether its just the team description paragraph or a team's results going back five years. You don't necessarily need to know HTML
Thanks, I've only gotten through the 2nd legs of the most recent qualifiers and I still don't even have all the players and team pages up for those teams. I spent the whole day doing this stuff. 1995 would probably take me a year to do if I could do this full time so as for right now, I'm going back to the start of 2008 and then we'll see once the Caribbean Cup and next round of qualifiers end. I haven't even gotten to work on the news part yet which would be nice to get working instead of the stuff from my other site on the main page right now
First, I want to say that this is a good idea. But it will take a lot of effort of you. I would often visit your page, in search of player's information. For me it would be more interesting if you would ampliate the players bio (for example adding birth place, height and weight of each player). Because there is no good information of any caribbean team in the internet. But to make your site interesting, you need the help of people which know good the teams. If you only have the same information like all the other sites, I wouldn't visit your site very frequently. For exemple: you don't have the birthdate of Wensley Christoph (december 9th 1984), although it's published in so many media. Perhaps, you can link news to inoficial country pages like http://surinamevoetbal.punt.nl/ There are a lots but not easy to find in the internet because they are not official. So as it is for now, it's just another home page that doesn't give knew info, near is a good database, because there are better ones. If you manage to get also the line-ups of friendlies of smaller nation, things could be different. But you need a lot of info of these smaller nations, that other databases don't have. Otherwise it won't be worth you time, which I guess is much that you have to investigate.
What I also, would like to see are photos of the players. Because there are so many players of smaller nation that I don't know. This were great, but I don't know the copyright rules that you would have to follow.
I would love to help you in the Puerto Rican page, like getting you fotos and info on the players, info of the local pro league and the islanders.
Count me in for infos on Haiti. As someone mentioned above, be humble and seek others help to make it a success.
Thanks for the offers guys. Right now all I want is info from 2008 friendlies, mainly just scorers and teamsheets for both teams playing as well as the team info paragraph. If you are interested in doing player biographies and pictures that would be fine, but I will not be involved with that until everything else is finished. Also pictures would have to be not copywritten (basically you would have to take them yourself)
Link your forum to the mainsite and replace the phbb logo with your own. You can do that by going to your admin panel and upload your new logo. Create a link to your site and name it something like 'Index', 'Mainsite', 'Frontpage', or simply change the url of your home page to "http://www.caribbeanfootballdatabase.com". Your logo's url: "http://www.geocities.com/caribbeanfootball/logo.gif" You can also upload your hearder image in the same slot. Your image's url: "http://www.geocities.com/caribbeanfootball/CaribbeanFootballBanner.gif"
OK, thanks, I'll do this later. We only have three members there right now (me, you, Jonny) so I dont think it is urgent . Can't seem to figure out the adding URLs though, I'm much more familiar with vBulletin than forumactif to be honest
Well I'm happy to say that the CFD was the first site with any (not to mention most of the ) info on last night's DCC match on the net. Anyway, here is my latest project. I need Contributors (not just for the Netherlands Antilles, of course) http://caribbeanfootball.forumactif...-f21/netherlands-antilles-video-thread-t4.htm
Just a few things - first of all, great idea. There aren't many sites out there specifically for football in the Caribbean. Concacaf's website has most of the lineups for Caribbean matches, including friendlies, in the news section, at least for 2008. The logo for Saint-Martin has changed (after Saint-Barthélemy split administratively from Saint-Martin). I can help with any results you need, back to 1995, or further back if you want.
Thanks, if you're looking around and see anything at all that you can help please post here or email/PM me. I'll look for the new Saint-Martin logo too
I don't know where you're seeing this, I couldn't find a single squad for a friendly from this year from the Caribbean teams
I'm a bit ashamed, I put ads on the site, but I hope to at least make half of what it takes to keep the site up a year (~$40 so I hope to make ~$20)
Get free (and ad-free) hosting, and you won't need ads. Your website would look exactly the same, only the address would change, and you wouldn't have to pay anything. I've had a site for 4 years with 60MB free storage, no ads, and very few problems. Why pay when you can have it for free?
