Please place all your nicknames here of you know here.

I am growing fond of The Mutt. After all, that's what he called himself in his first press conference.

Then we have some of the tried and true variations --

I guess "Chimpy" as a nickname for the President won't fly anymore...

    Yep.

"The Mutt" is really pushing it, I will confess, but since he used it on himself, well, it's now part of the arsenal.

    Bow wow.

    Here's the difference though.

You want me to stop because, well, while it was OK for you to do it to Bush, it's not OK to do it Obama.

I say you were in your rights to do it to Bush, and I have a right to do it to Obama. But I have a right to come right back atchya.

The hypocrisy, in case you missed it, is that the left doesn't like it, and squeals, or "takes the high road" when it is done to them.

So the distinction is clear. The left tries to justify what it doesn't want done to its savior by saying it's bad (it isn't), when it has done the very same thing in the past, and feels justified in having done it.

THAT'S the real hypocrisy, the hypocrisy of moral relativism.

Karl, I never said I want you to stop. You can call Obama anything you want to. I think it is silly to be taking such an adversarial position to your new president before he has done anything but its a free country. If you care, I didn't use nicknames for bush prior to his inauguration. Like the great masses of Americans, I accept the final verdict (in that case after SC intervention) and moved on wanting my new president to do well.

I didn't do it to bush. In fact, to this day, I pretty much limit my name calling to "dubya" which really isn't that bad. Now, before ITN whips his search function into overdrive, I do recall (I think twice) referring to bush as an "asshat." Frankly, I regret doing it because even though he has been a horrific president, he is still the president and that should be enough to cause my own restraint.

It must be nice living in a world where you can make up your own facts. Where in this thread (or else where) do you come up with this? While I enjoy getting into debates with Vfish, I would hardly call him the "left" and he is the only one in your playground to say "give it a rest." ;) I happen to agree with his point that it looks petty and small to engage in this stuff before the guy makes his first decision as President but to each their own (at least I think that is what V was saying.)

The distinction is clear in your own mind because you just made it up.

Question, Chris, for you to ponder... give it some thought because it is important as we progress... think back to 2000 in the afterglow of that election then bring yourself to current date... how long would it take a regular poster (not me or you) to get red-carded out of BS P&CE forum if that poster resorted to the same "name calling" about the new president elect now that President Bush was subjected to then? Revolt et al. piped in with daily "chimpy" references and other absurd inanities in full view of all the Mods therein for the last eight years with no condemnation. The answer is "seconds"... why? If you are at all sincere about asking us to give the new president-elect a chance why was said "chance" missing from you Democrats in 2000? We Republicans have had to listen to the worst filth projected about Bush and Cheney from 2000 seemingly unrelenting and now you ask us to take the high road? Whatever for?

Two things. First, I honestly don't recall any name calling like "chimpy" prior to the inauguration or even into the first few months. It probably started when he stomped on Kyoto and started forging his "you are either with us or against us" presidency.

Secondly, I don't think that anyone should get banned for any forum for criticism or name-calling of a public figure, including the president. People can judge the poster on the merits of what they have said. Many on the left and right lose credibility based on what they say, and that is fine. I know I have from time to time and that is a good thing.

As I said on here, I've got no problem with you, Karl or anyone else calling Obama the Messiah or Prince or Mutt or anything else. He's not a diety or a dictator and we are free to take any tone we want with our leaders. In this instance, I agree with Vfish that you should give it a rest until he gives you a reason to dis him but if you don't want to wait, that's cool. My position was and would have been the same in 2000 with bush.
