Guess what boys and girls? The great community organizer is thinking seriously about YOU engaging in "community service." Take a read of this: community service will be REQUIRED: http://change.gov/americaserves/ Emphasis mine. And the choices of Corps! So many! Will we get to wear uniforms, shirts with epaulets, armbands, and leather shoulder straps? Goody, I hope so!!
More Corps we could establish: The Preventive Medicine Corps The Serious Baseball Corps The Wal Mart Bashing Corps The Pick Up Street Litter Corps The Demonize Republican Corps The Political T-Shirt Silkscreening Corps
well well well. The fast movers at change.gov have just -- ahem -- "changed" the text of their website and have edited out the word "require." Now THAT'S change we can believe in!! I continue to look forward to an entertaining 4 years of an Obama administration that does ongoing sanitizing of its positions.
Screen shot from earlier today: I don't know what's more troubling: that they actually thought this was a good idea initially, or that they quickly "changed" in the "hope" that no one would notice.
It isn't exactly fascism but.... did anyone see Charles Schumar on Fox News defending the fairness doctrine? His argument was "you wouldn't want porn on regular television so I don't see harm in regulating what is in the media". What?
Don't worry Karl, nobody is going to ask you to do anything unless you want to. I for one have always thought that some form of national service (beyond the military) would be a good thing. For example, if you perform some sort of service (maybe along the lines of what Obama is contemplating) then you get a government-funded zero percent interest loan for college, or some similar incentive. Those who don't see the value in serving their country/community in some form wouldn't be eligible for any sort of government incentive.
I notice they also included the part about the incentives they would offer...something you conveniently left out. Karl, I know who you are and one more negative comment about Obama and a black helicopter is going to come spirit you away to Guantanamo...
Really? Willing to offer some guarantees?? Service is fine. Compulsory service is fascistic. Is it surprising that uber liberal Charlie Rangel wanted to bring back the draft? Nope. Sorry, this a really stupid idea. Another government handout. The bad news about the timing of the financial crisis is that it got Obama elected. The good news about the timing of the financial crisis is that with the TARP and other handouts, BO will at some point simply run out of options. See, here's the thing: BO is a politician. Politicians role in the culture is to make promises, and then fail to come through on most of them. BO has a unprecedented laundry list. He may set the record for most promises broken. I look forward to it.
So, by "incentive" are you really trying to say "avoid punitive results"? Because if you are you've bit on the Chosen One's handlers way of avoiding the stink of coercion. Pay higher taxes or do what I say is the "American Way" to you people? Where does it end? Do what we say or pay more for your car? Or how about groceries? Sure, why not, I can't think of a better way to get people to realize how important their time spent at community service is.
Speaking of national service, here's what notable Nazi Communist William Buckley had to say about it:
More classic lefty debating technique -- accuse the other side of doing the same thing. Still a bad idea...and still a fascist one.
Yeah, the Obama plan would be great for those horny young'uns. Let's all make posters, pick up litter, wear corp uniforms, and shag each other in the jugend barracks. It's perfect.
Bo, Bo, Bo, Bo, Bo. When will you EVER learn. Israel is a country surrounded by enemies that want to wipe it off the face of the earth.
So does Switzerland. Look, military conscription is a different animal -- that's about protecting your country. Community organizing conscription is about furthering a specific political or social end, which you may or may not agree with. What if I wanted to counsel unmarried pregnant women to give up their babies for adoption instead of aborting them? Would that count toward my "compulsory" community service? Or is it only acceptable to choose organizations that are "government approved"? And who decides on such approval? Obambi? Chuck Shumer? What if I think all of the "acceptable" organizations are a complete waste of time? Represent a poor use of resources and people? What then? And don't say that military conscription is just like that -- it isn't. Meanwhile, in case you haven't noticed, it's the Charlie Rangel's of the world who want to bring back the draft, not George Bush. It fits right in with the Liberal Fascist sensibility.
"Ask" or "require." And if "require" what? Can I teach the young 'uns some Adam Smith, Edmund Burke, or work through the Federalist Papers? How about some Milton Friedman? Think the teachers union would go for poisoning the minds of the youngsters with non-Obambi ideas? You know, it sounds so....so....beneficial. So NICE. So sweet. It's just the sort of thing that leftists deceive themselves into thinking it's such a good idea...so helpful...so humanitarian...so nonterrible. But, alas, the devil is in the details but, as we have heard in the speeches and sayings of the Mutt, who wants "change" and "hope"...well, the details are fairly absent. Thinking through is not a strong suit of the left. Meanwhile, I have hope...hope that my pocketbook will be left alone.
If you had proposed classes on Sean Hannity, it would be one thing. But Burke, Smith, and Friedman? Nobody would object to classes being taught on those figures. I think that what they have in mind is more along the lines of teaching kids that cosine is the ratio of the adjacent leg and the hypotenuse.
