I think it's good for our players to experience different styles. For example, Michael Bradley just played 2 seasons in the Eredivisie where defenders are not as sophisticated as those in Serie A, and there is a much stronger emphasis on offensive play even from defenders. Now he'll be playing in the Bundesliga, where I have not seen a match yet but I believe that there is much more sophisticated defending.

Therefore it's good for Jozy to experience the La Liga play, especially considering that many of the players for the best national teams in the world (Spain, Argentina) play that way.

You have to admit, Kqql, that Rossi was on the downslide when Nihat scored most of his goals. I don't think I've ever seen both of them play particularly well as strike partners. Usually one or the other dominated.

Re: Serie A, Another way to look at it is that the La Liga as a whole facilitates attacking play in a manner that is unrepresentative of the majority of international play. Whereas life in Serie A can be truly oppressive for a striker... if he manages to find his shooting boots there, I consider that a very dependable mark of quality.

Your wrong about the effectiveness of Nihat - Rossi como up front last year.....They both worked well together.

I remember one game against Atletico Madrid in the second half of the season where Nihat finished off 2 Rossi crosses. Other than that, my mind goes blank. When you're talking about the effectiveness of the combo, I think you're mistaking linking up well together and playing each other in unselfishly for both being on the pitch at the same time and getting a good result.

I'll give him props. He actually woke up for it. I didn't :( (up until 430 last night, my sleep sched is all effed up, stupid RA gig)

What's with this weekend? The first time I haven't watched a YA in a long time, and they all dominate. Subotic scored, Edu and Bradley started, Jozy ran around Depor. If this is a real trend, consider me retired from watching soccer! :p

Just an FYI, Bradley didn't start- he didn't even play. I hope it's ok to post that in here since it doesn't reveal anything other than you won't be watching Michael Bradley at 5 pm on GolTV.

    Altidore, good sensations

"The American forward came on for the second half and brought depth. His physical superiority over Deportiva's central defenders was insulting."

Just finished watching my DVR recording of it.

    Sick.

Blown away w/ Altidore's performance. Looked dangerous just about every time he touched the ball. So much poise and confidence.

    Good on ya Jozy

I wonder how the media would have reacted to Jozy's appearance if he scored on that volley.

The Spanish cooking agrees with Altidore. They do tend to put plenty of "hot" in their sauce.

I didn't expect him to be as good as he was today. Perfect? No. But we usually see a lot of time adjusting to the speed of play/thought for recently transferred Americans, regardless of league/position. He seemed to fit in. His first touch let him down a couple times, and there was one simple trap that he just booted out of bounds...but he was making good runs, showed confidence in his attacks, and used his physical attributes well. I liked that when he made that move on the right side and then ran along the endline before muffing the centering pass, he was upset, but his teammate was applauding him to encourage his play.

I can't believe that you actually live so close to the Red Bulls and don't know. By far, the majority of Jozy's goals were scored through his skill playing the ball with his feet, not strength in the air.

Don't know so much about Guile or Llorente, but he might be better in the air than they are (or at least with his size have the potential to be better in the air). Re-read the post and you'll see what he's saying.
