Colombia abajo y Argentina arriba.

DT: Alfio Basile.

Colombia: Oscar Córdoba; Luis Fernando Herrera, Luis Carlos Perea, Alexis Mendoza, Wilson Pérez; Leonel Alvarez, Gabriel Gómez, Carlos Valderrama, Fredy Rincón; Faustino Asprilla y Adolfo Valencia. DT: Francisco Maturana.

Another year passed, and we are meeting here again :D......................

love how people celebrate the beg of the end for colombian soccer when we can let that day go and grow is when we will truly be great

Vaderamma is gone, El tren is gone, Asprilla was the biggest waste of talent I have ever seen, its all gone

I pray that the 2005 sub 20 becomes a better team and take us to many WCs and we can only do better than being 3rd in group stages...

living in the past is wrong lets not be like uruguayans on the form and even they won 2 WCS so at least they have something to be proud of.... beating argentina although was big especially by so much but its really not like we havent beaten them alot recently or by a large amount either

Until we Win a World Cup or go there and do well we cant really say we are all that great, that 5-0 was a step in a stair case we took but most people were content with just that think we have to go higher

No one is living the past. But you also can't forget your history. Beside, no one is celebrate it with baloons and dancing, just remark this date, because truly, it was one of the best games that was ever played in the history, not to mention the surprise. An Israeli commentator who broadcast the game, said that he don't think that he will see another game like that, ever. By the way, he also said that a year ago, when he talked about it, 14 years after. This was Colombia's best generation in the history, you can't deny this. Because we were to arrogent in the WC, and because all the problems back home, the threats-we lost our biggest opportunity to shock the world. The 5-0 might harm us in the long run, but also showed the world another Colombia. Before that we were average team, after that and until today, when people talk about Colombia, they talk with respect, remember the talented squad that won one of the greatest Argentine NT to lose their biggest lose at home. You can't blow it off like it was just regular win. Also the 2-1 in Barranquilla which cut off 33 games of Argentina, something that not even Brazil, germany or England did. I really hope that the future of COlombia will be much better then in the last 10 years, but oyu can't take from that team what they have the most: they have heart. The play to win every game, it looks like the qualifying games are easy for them. We didn't have many players outside Colombia but if you compare it to the last generation who was also talented with players like Cordoba and Yepes who played in the biggest European clubs, but in reality we didn't achieve nothing. So give the respect for the 1993 NT, they deserve it. I saw many games of Colombia since 1990 and I enjoy from most of them, even when we didn't win, because we played offensive, we played well. I wish Pinto will take some chances and not be defensive all the time. Either way, I don't cheering and dancing on Sptember 5th, but I do watch this game once in a while and it really makes me smile :D. This was the game that promoted us to the field of the "big boys". Hopefully our players will bring us back when we are belong-the World Cup stage.

I totally agree with you. I mean we can sit here and say we've played like crap the las couple of years and so on and so forth. But remember is good as well. It reminds us of how to play with balls. I mean these guys played hard. I haven't seen a Leonel Alvarez attitude after that. Maybe Chicho serna, but other than that havne't seen much.

I'm not one to live on the past, but damn it is good to remember. And hopefully our current players can remember and bring some of that glory back.

There is no denying that we played well, very well, from 1990 to that 5-0 where we reached our zenith. And not just well, we played beautiful footy.

But you're wrong when you say we played offensive football. It never was about all out attacking football. Our game was all about possession, toque-toque and contragolpe, That's how be beat Argentina, that's how we got to two WC. But the moment we changed and we actually played offensively we got our butts kicked by Rumania. And guess how they beat us, that's right, by contragolpe. And who was next? The U.S. that with the same strategy and a little luck managed to beat us as well.

To this day it really gets up my craw that Maturana got so cocky and changed a winning strategy. He didn't even bother watching videos of how Rumania played. The man had absolutely no idea.

Maybe I didn't explain myself well. I didn't mean that we played all out offence. NO NT in the world can't play like that, maybe just old Brazil. they could receive 3 goals and to score 6. But I mean that we played all the time with 2 strikers, 2 attacking midfielders not like pinto, who look all the time how not to lose, and this is his biggest mistake. We are the only NT that wasn't lost yet, but as a football fan, can you really watch 3 games of 0-0??? 4 goals in 6 matches?? just for the record, in the 1998 qualification we scored 12 goals after 6 matches!!! amazing!! we were at the 4th place in the world ranking. Bolillo dare also when we played in difficult stadiums. the same was with the last 2 NT that tried to qualify for 2002 and 2006. and not because of bad players, we had very talented team, but maybe not the caracter that the 1993 NT had. look at the 1998 qualifying, almost the same players in 1994. Look how we played away games: we won Ecuador, drew in La Paz, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, won Venezuela but in all the games we scored goals!! we played to win!! we didn't bunker just not to lose. Hopefully that Pinto will try to dare more. What happened in 1994 was really sad. I don't think that Maturana is a bad coach, he and Bolillo were quite good together, also with Nacional. But after we won 5-0 and won all the friendlies before the WC, he thought that if we played more offensive we will beat everyone so easily and it was a huge mistake, I agree with you on that. BUt no doubt that the greatest generation of Colombia is the reason that brought me, a simple Israeli guy, to become a huge fan of this football. If a want to enjoy from a defensive NT, I will cheer Italy (even their fans hate them).

U CAN ONLY WIN BY ATTACKING !!!!

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY .... DEFENSE WINS TOURNIES BUT THERE MUST BE GOALS IN FAVOR

Look at CUCUTA they have like 1 goal per game average the worst in the league but the least goals against and are currently 1st in their group and prob favs to take it all (if they beat Junior)
