    Wow.

Well, for what it's worth - Clavijo has earned a bit of my respect for resigning. I wish him the best of luck in wherever his path leads him now.

Well there we go. Another Rapids coaching chapter is closed. I wish Fernando well in his personal life. He has always been a nice person to fans who approach him in public. He had a tough road to hoe with an owner who doesn't take an interest in the team.

At the end of the day his coaching record in Colorado speaks for itself. 43 wins - 55 losses - 26 draws. That includes the US Open Cup, Playoffs and MLS. It does not give him credit for this past weekend's result against KC since he wasn't on the bench.

You would think the Rapids would have wanted to break the story themselves. Credit to the Post for getting in there and getting the info the fans wanted to know.

Let the speculation begin regarding his replacement. I assume Smith with take the team through the rest of the season and a full replacement will be named after the playoffs are over. I wouldn't be surprised to see John Murphy back on the bench as well.

From what I'm hearing, he was given a choice. Gary Smith was to recieve interim roll through the end of the season, along with being able to make all decisions on rosters and formations, and FC would have to take a lesser job when he returned, and he refused.... Still don't know if the family thing was real or just an excusable ploy...

    Agreed!

I have to say over the last 2 months or so my views of FC have changed quite a bit.

As a person he is a great guy, as a coach I am glad to see his time finally come to an end.

^^that's all I got to say about this! AMEN!

On a funnier note, the picture at the bottom of story with the caption of Fernando talking to Stephen Keel. He apparently dyed his hair to match Herculez!

Good luck to Clavijo. Hopefully FSL will pick him up as coach.

As people have said, FC seems to be a decent guy but a crappy coach. Too bad it took long for this to happen.

It's a shame that LA already hired Bruce Arena because I think that FC would have helped Colorado more being there instead of here :D

Good luck to Fernando. I hope the family is well, and he finds a new situation that works out well.

I only wish that things could have happened before the season started, both for the Rapids and Fernando. It was pretty obvious that we had the old square peg in the round hole syndrome going and things needed to change. I wish Fernando and his family well. I have never heard anything but good about him as a person. While it is very late in the season, given the craziness in the Western Conference, the Rapids really do have the potential to move up the ladder. The most interesting thing will be to see who catches the new coach's eye. Will there be radical changes? Whatever the case, this is definitely a good thing for the Rapids. Big Soccer may suddenly become quiet, though, with no FC to harp about.

I don't blame FC for this shenanigans, but can we get off the "hope your family is well" kick? This, by all appearances, was a story made up to buy time to negotiate a seperation.

Now if FC's great uncle drops dead tomorrow from the plague I will stand corrected, but the sanctimonious well wishing for an obvious ruse is starting to wear a little thin.

Oh, and by the way; I wish all your families are well, FC and the liars in the front office included.

Laastly; the new guy Smith has an impressive bio. Here's to the playoffs.

It doesn't hurt me a bit to wish his family well.

If it's all a charade I still lose nothing by wishing them well.

I'm glad he's not the coach anymore. I'm glad the Rapids are moving on. I bear Clavijo no ill will.

Glad it's over at this point and look forward to a new chapter. Maybe the full story will come out someday but I doubt it if there really was a ruse regarding the family situation, if so that's deplorable on both sides. If the Rapids knew he was pulling this stunt or endorssed it in any way that is pathetic. If it's come to the point a lie about a family emergency was needed to get him out of the country then instead of all the theatrics just fire the guy I mean aren't we all adults here? Or should I not dare ask that? :p

I wish this would have happened a little earlier in the season, like maybe during the long break when there was the Everton game. Now the new guy is left with the immediate problems of three tough road games while attempting to regroup and put a team together. Any word on Murphy? Hopefully he'll stick around but I woiuldn't be surprised if he's swept out with Clavijo.

Listen, this whole discussion is something I shouldn't respond to but: Of course the whole story was a ruse. And it was more than endorsed; it was in all likelihood dreamt up by the Rapids.

Remember Kroenke said last year he wouldn't fire Clavijo? He doesn't want to be painted as a liar. They needed time to work a deal, and so they made up the 'family emergency' story. Iguess, since FC was losing his job, that COULD be considered an emergency.

Years ago Donald Trump wrote a book; I thingk it was called "The Art of the Deal". In that book he said that in situations like this the only thing you know is that the story you are being told is NOT the real story.

Besides the obvious, we won't know the details of his dismissal. But we do know it wasn't a family emergency that resulted in his resignation.

And I wish him and his family well, and your family to...and mine...and Stan Kroenke's... etc.

    I don't know what "really" happened and I won't pretend I do.

I wish FC and his family well.

I wish Gary nothing but success in his new position.

People are beign nice now, I remember during the off season and people were absolutely vicious talking about FC. Very personal attacks that were way out of order.

Once at the BBulldog watching an away game everytime they showed FCon the TV these 2 guys next to me would lay over the bar flipping off the TV screaming F you Clavijo! It was unreal the unwarranted rage.

I've meet FC before and he's a really swell person I just never cared for him as a coach. i think he ended up being the whiping boy for the Rapids Organization in general when there was/is plenty of blame to go around including some of the indifferent acting players. All ligit frustration but i don't know if the anger was equal to the situation.

I wish FC the best-just glad he isn't the coach anymore. Bring on Spencer as coach, RFO would earn some serious brownie points on this one, and Balboa in a technical position would be great .

Murph is the acting director of soccer and player development or whatever the title they dreamed up was. His move from the bench was to separate himself from the Clavijo sinking ship. He's still there.
