As the old saying goes, you can't please everyone all the time. You would think that, but then you see stuff like this. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=727022 If those people can't handle booing and stuff like that, how you think they handle cursing?
The above posts reminded me of one more thing I would like to see at the stadium....a wrap around marquee above the stands. With some coordination between ongoal and the cauldron, words to various chants/songs can scroll on these so the entire stadium can sing along. Sure, WOS and Whos Your Daddy will remain unique to the Cauldron, but the marquee could prompt the rest to sing along. Before I found Big Soccer I was nervous about approaching the Cauldron, but always WANTED to do the chants and songs. There are likely others like me that want to be a part of the action but have reservations or fears about approaching the Cauldron. So, let them sit in their seats but give them the lyrics to join in. Also, let me argue against the posts that will say that using a marquee taints the chants befor those posts arrive. First off, all sporting events I have been to use the jumbotron or marquee to get fans chanting (Lets go Blues in STL comes to mind, take me out to the ball game lyrics at cardinals games). Secondly, I see it as no different than handing out lyric sheets before the game. So, add a stadium ecncircling marquee to my wish list for the stadium, coupled with some coordination between the cauldron and stadium staff on when to do what song/chant.
Thread seems to have been hijacked. But, this topic surfaces each and every year. Debate ad nauseum. Which means it (poor language) needs to be clipped in the bud every year. So, what's new? It's interesting (to me at least) to read comments from many of the folks that have been around for several years. As young college studs, they were potty mouthed. As they mature, their language inevitably gets cleaner and cleaner. [You know who you are.] Cool process. The problem seems that "they" just keep producing a new crop of college kids EVERY year!!
Start a new thread if you want to complain about the chants. To move this back to the point of discussion, anyone have any idea when the Missouri governor will approve the bonds so we can actually see Hillcrest Road built? It's been a while since I've seen any information on this.
Governor has approved it. The Wizards have to request for the funds to be released by the Dept for Economic Development. They meet Aug 19th as mentioned. The reason you've seen nothing new, is because there really hasn't been anything new really since the governor approved the budget.
In plain terms, is there any chance of this last hurdle derailing the stadium effort or is it more like a rubber stamp? And thanks guys for the info.
There is 0% chance of this derailing anything. All the legal stuff has been passed, this is simply a formality - we have to go to a meeting a request the funds we have already been allotted.
Ohhhh, this sends a shiver down my spine. No jinxes, please! Although the funds have been allotted, the statute is pretty clear that there's no guarantee of getting them. Politics is like a watermelon seed sometimes and the prize can squirt right out between your fingers if you're not careful. I think everything's been done that can be done, but.... I was hoping to attend the August 19th meeting since I was going to be in Jeff City anyway, but that plan may be all buggered. I haven't given up completely on going, but may not be able to make it.
It's very simple, if they don't let the Wizards have the money, blue fire will rain from the sky and burn Kansas City to the ground. No survivors.
Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions. Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"? Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff. Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly. Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave! Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
It is your destiny, your duty, your modus et al for that trip. Someone supply this person with a wireless laptop or blackberry for immediate update ability to this site! This my fellow bretheren is the third most important date in current club history! 1) Granted MLS franchise 2) OnGoal purchases team to stay in KC 3) Funds locked down for construction of the Ultimate Fortress 8/19/08 Soon to be #3) Fortress Home Opener 4/?/10
Basically, Vermes on the radio yesterday said that it was a done deal. Everything is in place apart from "a few i's to dot and t's to cross", and site excavation will begin about the end of September. Take me home, Hillcrest Road!
CO was also telling people construction would start back in June....... Hopefully this time PV is right!
I will go, Obi-Wan, provided that 1)you really meant to say "bretheren AND sisteren" and feel bad about this significant oversight and 2) I get a free sody-pop and some delicious fruit-bat snacks and 3) I can come up with a really, really, really, really good excuse to get out of our management strategic planning session on that day. I will apply all my slimy lobbyist wiles to #3. I promise. And because I am a wily lobbyist indeed, I have an iPhone with a bookmark for this page. I can update from East Jesus, Montana if need be. Just so we're clear Brethren: plural noun Definition: 1. members of same group: members of the same family, group, class, or community ( literary or humorous ) the weaker brethren among us But you go girl - massive rep awaits you.
Anyone know of a set date/time/place for the meeting? I work in Jefferson City and deal with the State daily. If I can figure out when and where to be, I am sure I can go to the meeting.
Bad news/good news: It looks like the August 19th meeting of the Development Finance Board has been cancelled. I spoke to a staff person at the Board and she did not have a specific reason for the cancellation. The cancellation doesn't necessarily mean anything other than somebody on the Board (let's say, Lt. Governor, who's the Chair, who's running for re-election) has something else going that day. Although this is frustrating to us (I know, biiiig understatement ), it 1)doesn't necessarily have anything to do with our state TIF application and 2) doesn't mean that we aren't going to get what we asked for. The other good(-ish) news is that the Board is holding its September 30th meeting in Kansas City. I'm hoping that means they plan on announcing something we want to hear. The last piece of good news is that now I don't have to fraud my way out of my other meeting. For anyone interested in reading how the application presentation went at the Board meeting in June, here's a link to the minutes. Read pp 8-12 - lots of good detail. No drawings accompany the minutes, though. http://www.mdfb.org/upload/6-17-08_minutes.pdf
So much for an opening day game in April at Hillcrest Road in 2010. Renting CAB for a few games early in the season is not sounding like that bad of an option now....
Hmmm...I really wanted to open at Hillcrest for 2010 before I move to grad school. I think I'm just gonna run away and hide until all this governmental junk is done.
