I see the club using "ROWDIES" in the classic font we've been used to seeing:

But, how can we use it into an updated Badge. Any Ideas?

Anybody wanna show off their Photoshop skills? :p

Why mess with a good thing? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Re: Our Badge/Logo: Any Ideas?

I think that ship has sailed. I believe they're going to "update" the logo. Maybe the wordmark, too (which is included in the old Ralph Rowdie logo).

Badges are part of the return to traditionalist movement that has taken hold in American soccer in most places the last several years. I'd expect we'll see an actual badge (something NASL teams, to my knowledge, didn't really have a lot of - you could consider the Cosmos' logo a badge, I guess). Maybe it'll have the wordmark. Maybe they'll come up with something else. Don't know.

The old wordmark has the advantages of tradition and uniqueness (and instant recognizability). I figure the twentysomethings running the show want a more modern look. We'll see what they come up with.

I've thought since last week that even if they go with modern (sleeker, longer shorts, all the stuff that are in modern soccer uniforms) for the team's primary uniforms, that the hooped sleeves and the wordmark might be good for a third kit, so we could see it more often than just the occasional throwback night. A few times a year wouldn't be outrageous, would satisfy the oldtimers like me and the kids could still have their modern-looking kits most of the time.

Sort of like the throwback days in the NFL. I think they can live with that.

I agree though, the new Rowdies probably will have a different logo. Probably the same colors, but a updated font for the badge/logo.

Any way to get our voice out to the new owners about Match Kits/Logo?

I hope that the new owners get our input on the new Logo and more importantly on the revisions to the color scheme. I know they have said they will be using the Gold and Green but it would be nice if they let the fans have a say.

Maybe a petition or email campaign?

P.S. sorry I just really hate Green...

I'm sorry if you hate green.

But I don't see any way this team is NOT going to be green and gold. I think that's kind of the whole point.

But knock yourself out - fill in the form at tbrowdies.com.

Seriously, the team has been in existence for a week (though in the works for over a year). Not everything has to be accomplished before the 4th of July, you know that, right?

I agree we need to keep the old colors. Now I understand the Bucs going with a new look back in 2000, but their old logo and colors were horrible. The Rowdies colors are ok green and gold..

One of the things www.tampasoccerfans.com can do is showcase fan-created jerseys and logos. And I am sure the owners will be looking at it.

If you aren't familiar with mock jersey creation yourself, I recommend taking a look at several of the masters over in the MLS Expansion forum. One of my personal favorite's are those done by Sports Billy.

Why are you sure the owners will be looking at it?

Send them the link and they will look at it. USL organizations are very approachable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they looked. I'd be skeptical if they haven't got actual professional people engaged on their identity package already. Or that they plan to wait and see what people like Sport Billy come up with in Photoshop before they move ahead on that stuff.

I didn't say they will spend 24/7 looking at the site, but I know they are looking at it.

Will they care? I have no idea. You would think it would be smart of them to at least take in what fans are thinking.

Here's something I came up with for you guys. If you have more kit ideas send them into www.tampasoccerfans.com.

Thanks Pieter! Now there is a place for the mock kits.

I would, however, expect any future Rowdies jersey to have less, not more green than the original.

Soccer Prime asked me to help you guys out with some designs, and I kinda love the Rowdies' name and look anyway, so here ya go. My first attempt for a Rowdies crest!

Definitely wanted to preserve the Rowdies lettering, and also tried to incorporate the green-yellow hooping somehow. Kinda came out like Sporting Lisbon... Well, I hope you like it! :)

    Re: Our Badge/Logo: Any Ideas?

    Not a bad start.

There's a school of thought that a soccer ball on the badge is unnecessary (not saying I necessarily subscibe to that theory, just saying some do). Especially a really old-timey volleyball-looking soccer ball.

I'm sure they're working on it as we speak. They probably were working on it when they had to move the press conference up because of the leaks.

I'm one for simple and tasteful design stuff, but I'm sure they'll come up with something.

    Re: Our Badge/Logo: Any Ideas?

I know that the soccer ball is not really necessary from a branding point of view, but due to the curve of the wordmark I had to put something there to have some sort of balancing center point. And I figured an oldschool wordmark deserves an oldschool soccer ball. But I understand what you mean. ;) Thanks for the comment!

Nice. I also thought of Outback immediately when the team was announced. Only problem is, one of the co-owners is the owner of Bern's Steakhouse. I can't see Outback getting sponsorship with a higher class steakhouse involved already.

    The kits look great.

That Outback one looks great. And I would not necessarily rule them out as a sponsor just because one of the investors is the president of Bern's. I wouldn't exactly put them on th same level.
