I think they're still putting the finishing touches on PHP. :p

If they don't finish in Salt Lake before the cold weather sets in, it could take that long - but then they can work through most of the winter in Kansas City.

MOD NOTE: Cleaned up this thread with all non stadium discussion variants. It got a little out of hand in a thread we'd hoped would close because any day we're awaiting big news and hopefully renderings to start a proper thread due to the significant change in the point of the process.

Let's keep it on stadium talk please.

The Funk lays out his regional trasit plan. MO side only. KS you are on your own.http://www.kansascity.com/news/breaking_news/story/637286.html

in the plans bannister road will be in the network. A bus will be needed to get there from the Cleaver Blvd station from the light rail and it also looks like a commuter train goes near the site as well, possibly a stop? commuter train may not run on weekends.

only 10% actual light rail. sounds like it's just a jumbled mess. get on a bus here, switch to light rail, next to a streetcar, back to commuter rail. we need to say screw it and just go with a mag-lev. people keep saying that light rail will always have to be subsidized, but if we had a mag-lev transit system, tourists would travel to kc just to ride the local transit system. doesn't use fuel, doesn't use electricity (well, basically... at least not like light rail). magnets! see? that's the ticket!

EDIT: forgot to add the :D

That's a very pessimistic view of a monumental achievement for this city. "10%"? Of what? A transit plan covering a 300+ sq mile metro area when light rail costs $40-$70 million / mile? Yeah, I'll take that anyday.

Most of the proposed plan is already in place with the current Metro bus routes, so the main thing that is changing is converting The MAX line into light rail, and that is exactly where the city needs to start. After that, figure out what works and evolve it from there. KS wants in? Alright, we'll meet you at State Line Rd from Waldo. Want to extend it to Truman Sports Complex, The Zoo, or the Bannister complex? Subsidize it with a tax on tickets.

You don't need to script the entire marathon before you even start the race.

I think the budget is what we are concerned with, not any new laws. He is supposed to sign the budget by early June at the latest from what I understand, but I am by no means an expert on the political process. Somebody who knows more....please verify if this is correct or not.

See at the top. The house is done with their part so as far as they're concerned the matter is closed.

The Missouri fiscal year starts July 1. So appropriated funds from budget bills become available then. Whether that means that demolition can start July 2, don't know. There's probably some other variables that will determine that.

Governor Blunt historically tends to wait until late June to complete signing all the budget bills.

But for those of you who want to obsessively check every day if he's signed the bill yet (like me), click on this link:

BTW, I mistakenly posted a couple of weeks ago that the Gov would probably sign the budget bills by early June. The trick is to do the research, THEN open my big mouth.

Apologies for raising hopes for an earlier resolution. :(

    Stadium Renderings

Can't believe nobody has commented on the new renderings of the proposed SSS?

    Rather sweet, huh?

    Re: Stadium Renderings

Personally, I would prefer they get their "ducks in a row" with the renderings...present the final version that the stadium will actually be. Rather than what most companies seem to do, push out renderings right up front that have absolutely nothing in common with what the final design actually becomes (then, of course, everyone complains that things in the original rendering did not make it into the actual build).

Yes, we were told renderings would be avialble a few months ago, but I trust they are working on getting everything finalized before formally rolling them out to the public.

And yes, they are actually rather sweet!

    Re: Stadium Renderings

This is where you leak the images to the public in an unnofficial manner, which allows us the ability to see the pictures but gives a good enough reason for why things changed from the leaked images because "they weren't done yet" or something.

Or, just get done with the final stuff ASAP - can anyone answer the question of 'how close' the plans are to being finalized? Are there any parts of the stadium which are final? I mean, just give me a sketching of a concrete step or some grass or a lightbulb and tell me it'll be in the stadium somewhere. :)

Anybody else perk up a little last night when there was a possible wall cloud around the Grandview Triangle? I was thinking "TAKE THAT DAMN MALL OUT, BABY! Save us some time and money!" Mother Nature is such a tease.

Re: KC Wizards Stadium News/Discussion 08.2

Greg Cotton was on The Program with Soren Petro during the 11AM hour today. They discussed the roadtrip initially, but the bulk of the interview was about the new stadium and the development around it.

I’ll try to summarize what he said.

The whole project is along the lines of $1,000,000,000. $250,000,000 of that will be public monies funded by a TIF. Once this money is paid off, the taxes generated by the development will go towards the surrounding community. The remaining $750,000,000 will be private funds put up by, among others, the owners of the team.

Greg assured the listeners Bannister was the site that will be used. All that needs to happen is final state approval and that could happen at any time.

The project includes a 19,000 seat soccer-specific stadium. There will be 250,000 ft2 wrapping around the stadium. This will include restaurants, bars, boutiques and the like. In addition, there will be 750,000 ft2 more retail space south of the stadium. An additional 1.25M ft2 of office space is also on the slate.

12 youth fields are in the works. These can be used not only for soccer, but also football and lacrosse. There will be an “outdoor events plaza.”

Current time frame: 14-16 months of construction for the stadium, which will be the top priority of the project. If there are delays, the Wizards will continue playing at CAB.

Soren mentioned HS Football games of the week being played there, or even state football championship games. Greg was amenable to the idea.

OnGoal is planning on 60 events for the stadium a year and 200 events for the youth fields.

Greg called the project a “little soccer Disneyland.”

He closed the discussion with a plug to buy season tickets as STH would have first priority on purchasing seats in the new stadium.
