I am so tired of having no idea when (or if) the big matches are going to be on TV in Canada, and I haven't been able to find anywhere else that does this, so how about everyone keeping an updated list of "big" matches?

I still don't know if anyone showed the FA Cup final - which I badly wanted to watch...

Anyways, for something like EUro 2008, we can just post a link to TSN/Sportsnet since they have all the games listed.

    Let's get this started:

    2008 Champions League final
    14h30, May 21/08, TSN (preview show 14h00)

FA Cup was live on Fox Sports Canada - or whatever they call that channel.

I think that is one of the TVU channels is a ESPN Deportes stream.

Also, if you have a satellite dish laying around you may want to consider a FTA reciever, in Canada it is completely legal to acquire American Satellite signals. However you pick up a Canadian Satellite with a FTA receiver you would be breaking the law.

So next time you are in Canada pick up a FTA receiver. They are about $160-$200 and then you just have to aim any satellite dish towards the Caribbean. You'd also need a jump drive, to update the codes when the receiver is flashed. But there is a website to get those codes from, which is where the jump drive comes into play. FTA receivers are also unique in that you can choose to switch between Dish Network, Direct TV, Exprussvu or Star Choice just by changing which satellite you point your dish at.

when it comes to televising NT games the CBC would automatically cover the match...when I was growing up I was taught in school that Lacrosse was our national game but actually on particpation levels it was really hockey...now decades later we're told hockey is Canada's national game but on participation levels soccer is now the clear leader...so shouldn't our true national sport soccer NT get at least equal coverage with hockey?..

Anyone know what channel I need to have on to watch the Turkey vs Czech Republic match tomorrow?

Sportsnet is broadcasting the not-so-important Swiss-Portugal game over it and TSN as always is busy covering the US Open. I like watching golf on Sunday afternoon from time to time, but I will pass this time.

Portugal-Switzerland is on Sportsnet East and Sportsnet Ontario
Turkey - Czech Republic is on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet Pacific

If you don't have a satellite dish or digital cable you may have to go to a sports bar if you're in the wrong region.

I imagine for the other groups Sportsnet and TSN will split games, but TSN is showing the final round of the U.S. Open tomorrow.

I was lucky enough to be flipping channels and to my surprize - Sportsnet West televised Canada vrs. St. Vincent & Grenadines live. What a fluke. I should go out and buy a lottery ticket.

Canada officially has two national sports - Hockey for winter and Soccer for summer. That's pretty much the same for Russia, Sweden and Czech Rep.

that's official? I've never heard that, but then I don't watch as much tv as I used to.
Good news if true. I never understood growing up why LaCrosse was our national game.

I think he was yanking your chain. Hockey and Lacrosse are Canada's offical sports. By federal statute. Up until 1994, Lacrosse was the sole official sport of Canada, even though hockey was/is by far the most popular sport. in 1994, the Governement of Canada recognized Hockey as Canada's official winter sport. Lacrosse was first recognized an offical sport in Canada prior to confederation (not sure if hockey had even been evented at that point).

Rogers Sportsnet has the TV rights for Canadian games (much to the chagrin of Canadian fans) and last cycle actually did show all the games. But because Sportsnet is owned by the same company that owns the Toronto Blue Jays, the Blue Jays usually pre-empt the games and the games are thusly shown tape-delayed several hours later.

We (the fans of the NT) are just holding out until the contract runs out and the CBC (which actually seems interested in the games and actually showing them) can take over.

Technically TSN and CBC would probably show baseball before soccer...I know TSN would, because they'd also show Golf, Tennis, Fishing, and other such junk first.

I'm not too upset about sportsnet having the rights, I'm a fan of Dobson/Forrest, whereas I'm not that big a fan of TSN's duo. CBC...I haven't a clue who they'd get, probably some former athletes and Brian Williams or whoever. -shrug-

They may just use their TFC team of Nigel Reed and Jason de Vos. Most of the games cbcsports.ca shows exclusively are commentated by Nigel Reed already. If not I imagine Paul James would jump at the opportunity as some of the players on the NT are guys he's coached at various Youth Levels for the NT program. I imagine a lot of sports broadcasters/commentators have outs in their contract for the CBC. When Elliot Friedman left The Score for HNIC he did so by exercising an out as far as I know. Ben Knight seems to really have an excellent knowledge and passion for the game (as indicated in his writings for Sportsnet and now the Globe & Mail) and I have no doubts that the transition to on-air talent would be rather smooth. The fact he seems really passionate about the NT would bode quite well too.

Though with 4 SD channels, Sportsnet is a better choice than TSN or CBC as they will show it live on one of the channels.
