I thought the penalty was legitimate, but I agree that 'la coneja' let things get out of hand, he is mostly to blame for things getting ugly, and he's lucky the situation didn't escalate even more, because he was letting the players get away with hitting each other and retaliating.

America was asking to get bitch slapped by not taking refuerzos,a H. Droguett,or D. Veron would have made a difference IMO,but too late now.

The only way I see America advancing is if all of the Flamengo players get assasinated and even then I would bet the Flamengo Reserves can beat Club America.Club America 8 points in league play need I say more?

Club America could have been playing in Mount Everest and still would have lost

what did you expect its Argentina;),best fans-yes,craziest fans-also yes

Looks too me like the next round is going to be all Brazilians with 1 Mex team, and 1 Argie team:eek:

Cruzeiro is going to argue that they should get the win but since there was only 20 seconds left I dont think they will. But hopefully they just get a fine and not the stadium suspended. Nothing happened to Gimnasia when they had that incident (which was much worse) against Colo Colo.

Hopefully are bad luck of missing many chances and have our opponents score despite few chances will change this coming week in the crucial games that we're facing

its enough, always brazilian teams goes to other countries and had problems with local supporters.

or conmebol star to punish that or the brazilian supporters will start to do the same thing.

if this happened in Brasil they would have prob attended the linesman and then played another 5 minutes of extra time. I remember when Boca went to Brasil and a linesman got kicked by a fan in the finals and nothing happened at all and the game was continued

I remember when River played Corinthians, all the fans invaded the field, the cops were trying to hold them off, a free for all ensued, what a circus that was! So now you are outraged over one ice cube.

Anyway, the precedent for this is that if the action is deemed to be serious they will suspend the stadium. There is no precedent for changing the result, so I don't know why Cruzeiro is asking for that.

Do they think that they cannot win in Brazil, that they have to lower themselves and resort to haggling with Conmebol over a match they were lucky not to lose by 3 or 4 goals?

asf, they are afriad just like many teams that Boca has played in the past. Remember Libertad last year?

I think there should be a fine and perhaps suspension of those suites from where the ice cubes came from (that's what happened to River when they couldnt use the popular and that was at least a million times worse)

What happened vs Boca is nothing compared to what happened when Cruzeiro faced Cerro Porteno, where the fans started throwing rocks at the Cruzeiro players and they stopped the game in the 25th minute of the 2nd half.

corinthians was punished, but was a different situation, the corinthians supporters wants to enter to kick the corinthians players a$$es.

OK guys enough of this bickering. We all have our biases and all, and whatever. If you guys insist on talking trash, we do have rivalries no? Besides, by and large these discussions tend to be civil enough considering the Argentine and Brazilian passions running here.

Gee, maybe I should be a mod. :D

    Fluminense 1, Atletico Nacional 0:
Pretty boring game. I only caught the second half. But, Atletico did little to show me they were really hungry for the win. Fluminense was better throughout (although I think they didn't play as well as they are able to) and did just enough to guarantee their spot in the quarterfinals.

Estudantes da Prata 1, LDU 1 (halftime):
A much more exciting game. Estudantes has attacked from the start and kept the pressure. But, much credit to LDU for keeping their pose and for looking VERY dangerous on those counterattacks. Good, crisp passing by LDU; that #19 Guerron is one player. Fast as hell, good dribbler. LDU had two chances to make it 2-0 (which would've sealed it). Estudantes made it 1-1, and still need 3 goals to advance. I don't put it above and beyond this hungry Estudantes squad, but given how sturdy LDU has shown itself to be, I think LDU will pull this off.

OK, I missed most of the 2nd half; I didn't see Estudantes' 2nd goal nor the expulsion of the LDU player.

But what the F was Enzo Perez thinking? He grabbed and pinched the nose of the fallen LDU player - in full sight of the referee! An immature, pathetic, and classless act towards a fellow professional. Disrespectful as well. IMO, the whiny gesture of a player who sensed his team was about to be eliminated. I'm glad LDU won this just because of Perez's action.

As for Juan Veron - I have nothing against the man, but I think he was a bit of a sore loser by refusing to exchange shirts. Granted, he may have been sore about his team having been eliminated, but even in the World Cup players swap shirts in the round of 16 onwards.

Oh well. Brazil and Ecuador are the continent's first countries to be represented in the quarters. Let's see if Argentina makes it w/ Lanus or if Mexico squeaks through - I predict los cabrones will be there as of tonight.

So LDU finished w/ 11 men? Not bad; it's hard not to have a man ejected on Argentine soil in Libertadores elimination matches.

Mexico squeaks through? Atlas already won in Argentina, so they have the advantage coming into tonight's game in Guadalajara.

Liga finished the game with 11 players. the thing is Araujo, got a cut and had to be taken out of the field to get the bleeding to stop, and then the ref wouldnt let him in until he changed tshirts because it was stained with blood. but we finished with 11, players. I am wondering though if any of our players have booked enough yellows to miss the next game.

I meant that as Mexico joining us and the Ecuatorians.

It should be a very interesting quarterfinals. I know your team is already there - there's no way in hell your team won't make it. NONE WHATSOEVER. :D

SPFC vs. Nacional will be an interesting match up. SPFC has been struggling this season, and have had difficulty winning at home. Uruguayan teams are famous for their catimba, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Nacional doing it, despite not having a result that would put them through. My prediction: Adriano scores late and puts SPFC through.:D

Hopefully you are right about SPFC advancing. So, if SPFC advances, and then eliminates Fluminense, you can thank us for getting rid of your Rio de Janeiro rival. :D
