From now on, threads not meeting the below criteria will be moved to Women's Fans and More.

There will also be a News & Media thread stickied at the top of the forum. This is where you will place any general news articles, random blog posts, video clips, etc. If something is late-breaking or significant feel free to start a new thread.

    Guidelines:

-- Only discussions dealing with the current U.S. National Teams, including the U-XX teams, will be allowed in this forum. No non-nat team American players, no past players or past coaches.

-- Player sightings, new kits, commercials, videos, random questions, what they're doing now type threads need to be started in Women's Fans and More.

    Appropriate N&A Thread examples:

    1. PBP threads
    2. Pre and Post-match discussions
    3. Upcoming opponents
    4. Injuries
    5. New roster released/roster predictions
    6. Threads discussing frontline, backline, etc.
    7. Upcoming tournies, friendly matches

Threads for Women's Fans and More:

    1. I have a random question threads.
    2. Fan related threads like new jerseys, commercials, videos, etc.
    3. Media threads related to the announcers, lack of coverage, MatchTracker sucks, etc.
    4. Former coaches, players articles/what they're doing now

Praise the goddess. I think if I had to read another thread about a certain past coach benching a certain goalie in favor of a certain other goalie at a certain tournament, I'd gouge my eyes out with a spork.

can you also clean up the in-game threads? It's painful getting through all of the BS about computers, match tracker, what people are eating, etc. and just reading about the game itself.

That depends. Are you looking for the actual game PBP or just the discussion/analysis?

I'm inclined to say no, as I think some of the off-topic crap in the PBP has really helped develop a sense of community here. Something we've not had in a very long time.

However, I do think it's time to start locking the PBP threads once the match is over and taking the post-game discussion into a new thread entirely.

And if it's the hard PBP you're after, MatchTracker usually keeps the prior match's stats and info and all the commentary up for a good, long while. Usually until the next match.

i tend to agree with casocrfan. i know it's your call but i'm sure there are more of us who would prefer a stricter pbp in this thread and then the fan thread would be where we can post about the food, beer, personal stories including kvetching, etc.

also with regard to the new media forum, i think that the n&a forum is already too sparsely populated to split it into two. if you add the removal of stuff about previous teams to the fan forum that makes this forum very bare indeed. sometimes several days pass and it's silent in here. this will make it worse. (i know it's just another click of the mouse).

    just my two cents.

I love the in game threads especially when we are only stuck with craptracker. Yes people joke a little and thats why its great. WTF else are we supposed to do between the 5 minute lapses in anything on matchtraker. i also know a lot of other people enjoy reading them even post game.

I agree that it can close after the game and open a new thread, but i personally really enjoy the discussion and vibe in their during a game. I mean what are we supposed to type about otherwise. good shot, o wait i cannot actually see them game so i can only imagine that it was a good shot.

There won't be a new forum for News & Media. Just a stickied thread for the odds and ends.

What I'm seeing through the thread views is that the topics with the most substance usually have FAR higher hits than threads that deal with what I'll be moving to the other forum.

    Example:
U18 WNT camp roster named (176)
U17 WNT camp roster named (237)
    Julie Foudy Interview (355)
is there a game against norway in july? (399)
Earth To Briana Scurry: Face it its over!!! (493)
    US National Team Question (595)

    Olympic roster - predictions (750)
    Driving forward, looking back (1,224)
Couple of interesting articles of late (1,386)
US Women's version of Rossi: US Player on Brazil's U20 team (1,527)

    Olympic Draw: Sunday, April 20, 2008 [R] (2,111)
U.S. Women to Kick Off 2008 Domestic Schedule ... (2,997)
Cat Whitehill: Wimp or Weapon? (3,992)
    USWNT vs. Australia [R] B'HAM (5,765)
    U23 & U20 games [R] (7,535)
Home Series: USA WNT vs. Australia [R] (first game) (8,037)
Olympic qualifying final: USA v. Canada [R] (10,906)

Everything bolded would be threads moved to Women's Fans and more. I don't think this forum is going to take a hit, traffic-wise, because I'm moving the lighter stuff elsewhere. I think the views make it pretty clear what (most) people on this board prefer to read about.

I don't have a problem with the restructuring of the forums, but I hope PBP threads stay the same. I realize there are often more lurkers than posters, but it's easy to request actual play-by-play and not just chat about what is going on. Most matches have been on MatchTracker and have not had television or radio coverage. The PBP threads make it all bearable and fun. If there is a problem with the discussion, I doubt posters would have a problem adjusting if requests were made in those threads during the matches.

Just me 50 cents, but here it is...

I have seen other boards ruined by having a catch all for news, articles and such.

There are some players I dont care to read about and i don't want to have to 200 posts to see if I missed anything

People will stop reading and eventually you end up with 2, maybe for people who want to go through all the dribble...

As for play by play, if you only want the soup and nothing else, use yahoo or msn and take over a chatroom for the game.

try listening to MNF and only get the play by play, won't happen

it is much easier to cscan the titles of the threads, avoid the ones I don't want to read and go to ones I do. The ones with no action fall off pretty quick.

I fo one will be avaiding these threads and i would rather go through title fodder than than a catch all.

It is a good way to kill your users from coming to the board and shutts out most new people who have to readd the entire thing to find something that interest them

I have already cut down the number of post and thoughtfull replies that I make and only check this board from time to time, because I cant get the articles listed within an easy link

I agree - I miss being able to scan quickly for new threads about new articles and such. AND I liked not needing to scroll through lots of previously-read material to get to what I want (or see if I've missed something).

Clicking on the little picture of the document with an arrow will take you straight to the latest unread post of a thread. You don't have to scroll through things you've already read.

You might be sick of trying to find an article, but I personally was a little tired of finding four threads on the same subject, like, "Hope Solo r0x0rs the big one!!!111" and "OMG you guys Hope got a hangnail!"

Since I suggested a TWoP-like restructuring, I'll suggest some threads:

    - PBP/Post-game (obviously)
    - Team news (this includes any articles about the team in general)
    - Individual player threads (this would include interviews with/articles about specific players, player analysis, injuries)
    - Upcoming games/Questions about upcoming games
    - Youth team(s) news (U20s, U23s, etc... can have their own thread, but let's not start a NEW thread each time a roster is named or they play an insignificant (relatively speaking) tournament)

This is pretty much what redcard suggested. I'm not sure why it's such a problem.

like i posted before, i know it's just another click of the mouse, but i also liked just scanning the thread titles and going straight to the one i'm interested in.

That's what Riz does over in the DCU section. Works quite well. I'll miss her when she has her kid.

Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as PBP goes, if there's no chat, there's not much of a reason to post. Unless y'all want someone to sit around and just type up what matchtracker has. Which is kind of pointless in and of itself, because MT keeps up what they've typed for about a week or so.

Or do you mean the 'off-topic' stuff and joking that comes up? Which, might I point out, only happens when the games aren't broadcast.

As for everything else, I'm open to suggestions. Y'all keep posting them and we'll see what we can do. I do like the individual player threads idea as well as one for general team news for both the A-team as well as the youth teams.

One of the main reasons I decided to restructure everything is because way too much C-R-A-P was getting posted here that had nothing to do with the current team or were not news or analysis.

This is definitely something I want to get banged out before the OLY start, since we will be getting a ton of traffic. And maybe this is the best time to do it, since there's very little happening with the team right now.

if it is C=R=A=P, delete it, make a general guidlines for stuff that will be deleted...

1: All "player AAAA stinks" threads will be deleted
2: All Ryan vs hope or Hope vs Ryan is deleted

when a new thread get to be annoying, add it to the list

    or close it.

sometimes it's good for all to see that even tho a thread started out fine, it was going nowhere. so close it, people will see why.

i've seen that happen many times - including to threads that i participated in; and i wasn't upset, even tho i didn't get my last word in before the thread was closed. as long as it was closed based on the guidelines.

delete or close, but let's see all the new stuff available as soon as we clilck on the us women's forum.

This is the News and Analysis section. Bonnie, if you are saying you can't make your analysis or argument by referencing other players or coaches or generations, that is like saying a lawyer can't use previous rulings in their current cases. Perhaps it annoys people, but then you should just call it "News" and take out the "Analysis" then.

    A. I'm no longer a mod of this forum.

    B. It was directed at those that wanted to post the newest article about what Player X from 1999-1995-1991 was doing with her hubby and three kids. Obviously referencing past players and coaches is allowed.
