Excellent result, a very compact team, solid defence, excellent team work and efficacy in attack, so sad that then lost Linares for the next game

Linares and Duarte were huge threats last night. The goalie really kept his composure throughout the night. Cuba gots a good amount of solid players for the future.Cant wait to see yall beat Honduras. The way they played against Panama las night was like watchin paint dry.

ESPN Deportes is reporting that 5 Cuban players defected last night.

If this keeps up I wonder if they will have enough players to keep playing.

They only brought over 18 players to begin with so this leaves them with 13.

Miranda , Baru , Bermudez and Alvarez played from start against USA . Prieto came in as a sub.

Down to 12 men because Linares was sent off against USA.

After signing Lester More last week, the Charleston Battery now have Osvaldo Alonso in camp. he played for 45 min in a scrimage last night against the College of Charleston. He looked very good and I would be surprised if he didnt get offered a contract. Lester More picked up a slight knock during training, so didnt play in the scrimage but its nothing major and should be ready to go for the Battery's tournament.

I understand that the 5 who defected called Lester yesterday. Not sure what the conversation was about but im sure they had some questions about MLS and USL soccer in the US.

the first 5 players who left say they will look to play in the MLS

Los desertados quieren jugar en la MLS

EUA.

there is something that i do not uderstand, why is it that Osvaldo Sanchez has had so little attention from any clubs in the US. I mean, he gave a hell of a showing in the Gold Cup against Mexico and Panama, hes one of the best cuban players nowadays, so why the hell cant hget anyone interested in him, hes better than the kids coming out of the college draft.

Second, how realistic do you guys think are our chances to actually qualify for S Africa '10. I mean , youll have Mexico and the US in, but after that there is a wide open race. For once, you have teams like Guatemala and Panama, etc who have the talent to make it but always choke. Then Cuba has proven that they can play with Costa Rica, and the rest of central america and the Caribbean. I dont want to get too far ahead of myself, but i think that we may have a real chance to go somewhere in the world cup qualifier.

yes, osvaldo alonso, i was typing this out while in class and got distracted. It is Osvaldo Alonso whom i mean, i find it strange that someone who looked so good in such a tournament would get no recognition from MLS or USL clubs?

Alonso played for Charleston Battery couple nights ago, and I heard that he played very good. I also have the same question, why the MLS teams don't pay attention to players like him, may be because he is cuban and every body think that we only can play baseball .

Can someone clue me in as to why Cuban defectors are immediately removed from the national team? I mean, did the gov't over there make the rule that they can't play for Cuba anymore, or is it the players' choice? Seems to me some pro's in the squad would only help their cause.

Alonso played in a exhibition match against the Battery today. You can watch the archive of the match here
    http://usl.playonsports.tv/

its the Red bulls v. Charleston Battery match.

He looked good to day and very useful. I presonally would like to see him end up on the Battery.
