Ives also reported NY never made a serious offer so that was the one team I was concerned with beating us out.
The Fox Sports blurb looks like a rehash of earlier publications, and there is no direct quote in there from Gallardo saying he is coming to DC. I'm not buying it yet.
"Yo me marcho en unos días a Estados Unidos para unirme al club de Washington", anunció el 'Muñeco' Gallardo. "Es una elección de vida. Tengo ganas de disfrutar".
Well, if speculation is correct and a rough exchange rate of USD 1 = ARS 3.1565, I'd say ARS 4,734,750.00/yr.
Well i guess it depends on who ya listen to. Was in the Domincan this weekend and watch some LatinAmerican sports award show. For Latin American footballer of the year that plays in Europe, the choices were Messi, Farfan, Forlan and another guy (non-Brazilian). Not a single Brazilian was part of the show, in any category. So apparently Brazilians aren't looked at as Latin American either. I guess we can be surprised that Fred is ON the list as much as that Emilio isn't, depending on ya viewpoint.
This may be obvious, but one of the big things to watch for is whether any years beyond this year are guaranteed. Red Bulls, obviously, are feeling saddled with Reyna's DP salary for an extra year. If my interpretation of the DP rules is correct, I think any year on a DP contract has to be guaranteed--you can't yank a DP player down to non-DP status or re-do the contract. So if Gallardo signs a three-year deal, he's on our books for three years as a DP, even if he gets hurt or plays like Juan Berthy Suarez. I'd be surprised if Gallardo would come here without a multi-year contract, but if Payne wouldn't give Gomez a guaranteed second year, I'd be surprised if he would do it for Gallardo, especially with the slightly higher salary cap hit.
Goff says: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/ So Gomez wanted to make $1 million over two years, not three.
But Goff just reported that Payne did offer Gomez multiple guaranteed years. Just not in the amount that Christian wanted. Gallardo gets multiple guaranteed years, I'm sure.
