seems a bit early but it looks like Toronoto FC has already committed

You would think Houston wil get the invite if they can attend. So who takes the third spot?

    My top Three choice

LA -obvious reason, almost every match day would sell out

DC United- for Tradition, nothing like another round of the Coffee Pot Cup

Chicago-they got Blanco and might be a good draw. plus we still owe them for the USOC defeat a few years back.

I wonder if the dates have been set for CCC ??
Toronto school break is March 8 -16 so it could be a road trip ....

Historically its been the last week of March. USL starts about a month after MLS does. When the Tourney cranks up, the Battery have usually only been in training about 7-10 days and are missing some of the players that play indoor soccer.

LA will be parading Bex in some Asian country instead would be my bet

I'd love for DC to go, we miss visiting ....... but hopefully we'll have the same issues we did last year with the Concacaf Champions Cup - I told Tom Soehn that if we had gone to the real CCC as well, we could have started MLS better than 0-3, but (thankfully, I think, overall) he rarely listens to me :)

If Toronto FC has committed, and if Kit Man Malcolm is still with TFC next year, then Charleston better stock up on the beer!

    Fixed your post.

Doesn't Houston also get an invite to the Concacaf Champions Cup as MLS Cup winner? If so, that should tie them up as well.

Houston should get th chance to defend, but Im not sure what the claendar is going to look like this upcoming season. I know they will be in the CONCACAF Championship cup and that was an issue with teams in the past.

Toronto fans are already talking about making a trip down last year if was official around christmas so hopfully we will hear some more soon.

    Hey Charleston People...

I'm thinking of coming down for the Cup with some Toronto FC supporters.
    Here's a few questions:

Where's the best area to stay? I think being near the stadium isn't as important as being in a nice location. Daniel Island looks a little barren (from google maps) and I think we'd rather stay in a nice place then take a taxi or a shuttle to the field.

What are Folly Beach / Isle of Palms like in March? Those are two beach areas I could find on google. Are there better spots?

For nightlife, what are some recommendations? Most of the people I've talked with are long past college age, so we'd be looking for somthing a little more interesting than a Hooters or a college bar.

thanks for any tips you guys might have,

oh, and here's a thread I started called 'Welcome to Toronto' if any of you make it up here.

I need to update alot of the links in my signature.

Both Folly and Isle of Palms (IoP) are both nice. Folly is a little more quiter and IoP is a little closer to Blackbaud (about 15-20 min drive) March time the water will be cold but should be nice for walks during the day, especially compaired to what you all are probably used too at that time of year.

Downtown is nice but more expensive. Very walkable and a huge variety of resturants, bars, etc., and is very central to all points and while a little more expenxive to stay, but might be worth looking. Often the extra cost of staying downtown can be offset by walking as opposed to a rental vehicle or taxis (public transport isnt that great around here, unless your downtown)

there are several quaint pubs, tapas resturants and lounges around downtown that are pretty relax but there are several clubs and bars for dancing and frozen alcohol drinks just a couple doors down if that is your thing. (The Market area downtown has a ton of bars and great resturants)

We (the Battery Faithful) are going to be hosting a couple tailgates that week and everone would be more than welcome to join us. Also do not miss an opportunity to visit the Three Lions Pub in the stadium. Truley a place to see.

    ^ that was FAST!

    thanks for the quick reply.

There's probably going to be a small group of us (like 10-15 ) or so, and we're planning on doing the week.

it the end of the day at work. ;)

10-15 is a good size group for a preseaosn tourney. I hope to see something official by the new year. Traditionally the Cup is held so the last match is the week before the MLS season kick-off with MLS season kicking off 3-29 I would guess the tourney will be around Mar 15-22. if that helps out any. if you have any other questions let me know.

Anymore on the rumors that San Jose may be one of the teams this season in place of Houston?

Nothing solid. I heard the official announcement would come after the CCC draw on Dec 19. Last year they made the official announcement on Dec 27.

Still nothing solid but it looks like it will be mar 15-22 (Sat/Wed/Sat matches) with Toronto FC, San Jose, and the Red Bulls making up the billing. But the Front Office is waiting to make the announcement after the CCC draw is made on Dec 19.

also I added a Google map in my guest book (link ito my guest book in my sig. below) its a work in progress right now I only have some places to eat and drink but will be adding some tourist things. Let me know if you think anything particular will come in handy

    No DC again? Well, crud.

Oh well. Still should be some fun matchups. (I was also hoping that there was an outside chance that LA would come.... Just for the fanfare that it would bring to the state, assuming Beckham would've played.)

Re: 2008 Carolina Challenge Cup t-minus 6 months

I would have loved to seen DC again just for the potential Coffee Pot Cup date, the Battery faithful want to have someone else pay to fill that bad boy up!

I would have loved the hype that would have surrounded LA coming to town but rumor is LA is charging $1,000,000 for a match this off season. I'm sure all three match would have sold out, maybe a tv contract for the tournament, but I dont think the Battery could have recouped the fee. Im hoping for a USOC date.

But if NY pull another big name like they are rumored, paired with Angel that isnt too shabby. Also no telling who might getpicked up before the season starts with Toronto and San Jose. Plus, the Battery might get another Terry Phelan/Eric Wynalda type signing (well I can hope anyhow!)

Cool. Glad San Jose is back in the CCC where we belong. It was nice of Houston to keep our spot warm for two years, we'll take it from here.

Nothing official but I have it from a good source that it will be Toronto, Red bulls and San Jose. Im 99% positive it will be March 14 -22, double-head matches on Sat, Wed and Sat. I would imagine tickets will be priced the same as last year, starting at $15 per Match day (thats for both matches on a given day) or starting at $35 for all three days.

I would expect the official announcement to come out after New Years

I'm pretty sure the 14th is on a friday. Did you mean the 15th or will the first double header be on a friday night?

The reason I ask is, if it starts on the 15th then all three days fall perfectly within my spring break.

The competition format will remain unchanged in 2008 with three matchday’s each featuring a double-header. The games will be played on Saturday (March 15) – Wednesday (March 19) – Saturday (March 22), with each team playing the other in a round-robin tournament.
