Seven goals in 28 games is "quite good?" For the average player, maybe... but not for a guy with the pedigree of Borgetti. If I was a team in the Saudi league or MLS paying Borgetti the kind of money he demands/deserves, I would expect a better scoring record from him. Say what you will about David Beckham, but this is patently false. The guy is a gamer in every sense of the word.
hey man, where was your source on borgettis perfermonce in the Saudi League?? he did not play 28 games(he left the league due to his familys unadaptation to the region), he scored more then 7 goals, heres the link. he scored 10 goals in 15 games. http://www.footballdatabase.com/index.php?page=player&Id=849&pn=Jared_Francisco_Borgetti_Echavarría 2006-07 Al Ittihad KSA A (games played)15 (goals scored)=10
I think he's referring to Borgetti's output in Mexico this past season. Granted this is wikipedia, but it says he played 28 games for Cruz Azul and had 7 goals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Borgetti
My bad. I retract that. I read the website I checked incorrectly. Those were his stats at Cruz Azul last year. The point still stands though. Though the higher difficulty of the Mexican league certainly needs to be taken into account.
keeping in mind he only played 6 games this season with cruz azul,(only making it to the playoffs), due to the injury that he suffered in the final of the GOld cup, that kept him out for 4 months. thats not bad.
as i recall, he didn't play in most of the games because he fell out of favor with the coach. i for one can say that i am very happy that he is no longer with cruz azul. if it is true that KC acquired his services . . . . be ready for a big flop.
I don't remember the injury, but that is also a concern that comes with his age. The Wizards aren't the type of team right now that can afford to blow a ton of money on a DP that could be injury prone. I'm not saying Borgetti is injury prone, I really don't know (target forward is a very rough-and-tumble position though). It's just another factor in the equasion. I would take him as I think we could use his size, and will need another forward if EJ leaves, but there are other Mexican stars that I would prefer.
well if your an AZUL fan, and watched the games, u would know he was injured for the much the whole season, Up to the playoffs when MIguel Sabah got injured. and im sorry to disapoint you, but he still has one more year contract with AZUL, BUT with the option to accept other offers.
according to this article, its a done deal and he has decided for mls instead of ukraine, russia, and asia. Due to the fact that you dont talk to the mls club itself, you negotiate with mls officials, he doesnt know yet if its Rapids or Kansas City, but he said Kansas shows more interest. http://www.ovaciones.com/deportivo/notas/futnac3.html im f*n excitet if it does go through
Apparently that story isn't worth the bits that it's transmitted via... Someone's fibbing, and I'm not really ready to call out Robb on that one yet.
When you are negotiating a contract, it's always useful to have another suitor out there "showing interest". Although given the single-entity structure I find it odd that he would choose another MLS team to use as his bargaining chip. Not sure how it works, but it seems to me like that strategy wouldn't work too well.
I have been a Borgetti fan since forever. And 'course, his best days are gone, especially with the National team and in clubs with Mexico, but I do believe he could still be very, very useful for any team in the MLS, and not only because of the economic impact he would have. The man knows where the ball will go; he will score, each and every time. His experience he'd provide is invaluable.
