quite a few, actually. if they were english, every single one of them... including pore and morsink. ok, every single was a little bit of an exaggeration, but still...
nope, not whatever. there's lines to be drawn. some people on here have no problem what the team does as long as they win (getting ruiz). i like winning, sure, but i'd rather do it in a way that doesn't compromise our integrity.
I love the idea of Borgetti because he will sell out every game at home... He has followers just Angel, Blanco, and Beckham. He may not be at the same level, but I can promise this... If we get him... you better get more season tickets because it may be hard to find them...
This is insanity... the MLS should stop importing over-the-hill stars from Mexico.. and go for youth. The success of the league would be more certain if the MLS teams followed this approach 1) hire excellent coaches and scouts 2) identify young players that will become the next group of futball stars 3) sign those players to long term contracts and help develop them for the MLS and the world 4) sell a few to EPL and other european teams to make money. Instead of Borgetti -- MLS teams should be trying to identify the next Nery Castillo's and signing them to long term contracts.. Olympiakos in Greece made 13 -15 million euros for that transfer when they sold Nery and in the process won several league titles with Nery as a key member of the team. Not a bad deal.. don't you think.
Ok, I know it's been done... but this post takes what has been done so far a step further, in my opinion. Robb, OnGoal, everyone in the Wizards organization - you rock. And not some Michael Bolton soft rock stuff... we're talking full on Led Zeppelin here. Already I'm sure there are young ownership group children who think about you all and say "I wanna be like that." Keep up the good work
Thank you, Robb. Moving on. Our guys do need an upgrade at defense and/or defensive skill in forward positions, aierial defense, crossing skill in the wide positions, height, strength, shooting selection and accuracy, increased touch on carpet, a playmaker would be a nice stocking stuffer, an heir to the GK position, a frank discussion of handballs in the box, EJ to stay, and a small vile of Team Chemistry might help... Did I miss anything? Yeah, there might be a better rallying cry than "Commitment to 8th place". Let's find it. KC does seem to be OK in the vet/youth mixture, not great, but OK. Speed is fine. Aggression is obviously there. Game Fitness seemed higher over '06, regardless of on-field results. Skill differential (positive) shows up in spots most every game. Add 1 impact guy on each line and maybe KC is up there with Chivas-light next November. It's a big ask for 1 offseason, no question. GO BLUE!!!
mr. borgetti, did you miss this memo? http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news?slug=txmlsborgetti&prov=st&type=lgns
I was against Blanco comming but boy was I wrong, but this guy is not Blanco, we should NOT bring players after they played in Saudi Arabia or any of those retirement arab leagues, it makes us look even worse, send Denilson back there.
Unlike Denilson who was a major big time flop, Borgetti was actually quite good when he played in the Saudi league. BTW, Saudi Arabia is not a retirement league, you have us confused for Qatar...the majority of the foreign contingent here are younger African and Middle Eastern players who eventually leap frog to a bigger club in Europe. The better players in the past came fromcountries as Congo, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Peru, Paraguay and so on. Trust me, expectations from foreigners here are much more demanding than in the MLS who are more likely to sign players solely on their popularity and revenue potential. In Saudi Arabia, its much more about what the player (and coach) brings to the table. The only names I could recall who came to Saudi to basically retire were Donadoni and Bebeto...while the MLS has dozens and dozens of players who intended to just mail in their performances and get a paycheques and endorsements...like Beckham
Beckham has never and will never mail in a performance--I don't think he knows how to play less than 100%. In fact his major injury last season was the result of an aggressive play on a 50-50 ball. He was still playing at a world class level at Real when he decided to make the switch, evidenced by the fact that Real tried to keep him. You also undermine your point by mentioning endorsements. The US market has not been a place a footballer would go to get endorsements. That is pretty much nonexistent in American soccer. With the exception of Becks of course.
yeah, i gotta agree with abracadabra here. the credibility of your opinion just went out the window with this statement. while becks is definitely a pretty boy, he's never been known to give less than his best at all times. this past season, his teammates had nothing but good things to say about him and his work ethic.
He lost me at the "dozens and dozens", long before he got to Becks. There are MLS players making big money off endorsements? Pimping skill-improvement products and videos must pay a lot better than I thought.....and Tinyshirt Twellman isn't even foreign-born.
he had some great goals, and from all the saudi fans that i spoke to that saw him play, they only had but good things to say. he only left because he got a good offer in mexico. a natural born striker might looses his speed after years but he will never loose his striker instinct.
really? name these dozens and dozens...... and has been stated, Beckham certainly hasn't mailed in any performances...
