I am going to open something up to the group for discussion.

This evening, a few of us met at CAB and took a tour, specifically to discuss location for The Cauldron. As it stands right now, I am presenting two options for discussion. I will include some pros & cons for each (from my take) and I suspect that the others (Kathy, Jason, George & Mike) will also post with their take on the options.

    Option A
    Pros:
    • Stadium seating
    • Good sightline
    • TV visibility
    • Good access to players taking corner kicks (about 10’ away)
    • Reserved seating
    • Sun will be behind us
    • Actual bleacher seating

    Cons:
    • No direct access to players
    • Seats will run about $18 per game
    • Well elevated, should make streamers fly nicely

    Option B
    Pros:
    • Decent sightline
    • Very close access to goal/goalie
    • Good access to players
    • “Seats” would cost around $8.33 per game
    • Low cost should allow for really building the section
    • Berm holds over 600 people

    Cons:
    • Grass berm, will be messy during poor/rainy weather
    • Incline of the berm is about 40 degrees
    • Will be hard on knees/ankles/feet/back standing on that grade
    • Concerned with the high probability of people falling down the berm and injuring themselves of those they roll into.
    • No seating, standing only

I know there are other pros & cons, so I want to open it for discussion.

Here is a map showing the location of Option A and Option B, by the left field corner:

Correct. Option B is the grass berm in the center of your pic. Option A is above the wall on the right of the pic (above the Buck O'neil sign).

Robert has posted the main pros/cons that I had on each. My biggest con of the berm is the potential for some serious injury from people (especially drunks) slipping/tripping and falling down the hill taking everyone in front of them with them. The grade is at least 40, in other places I think it's even steeper then that. It's gonna be rough for jumping, and people with any kind of knee or ankle problems is not going to like it much.

Wow, the bleacher area is great, and when the opposition tries to take a corner kick in the left field corner area, YOU can bury him in streamers!!! It will take him 5 minutes to get the kick off, just like Toronto!!

What's the possibility of acquiring the Picnic Area in the opposite corner?

Unfortunately, as I understand it, that is not a possibility.

actually both spots would allow that.

They had the field marked out tonight. Not as tight a squeeze as we thought, and the sight lines on the first base side are not as bad as they appear in the rendering.

This is not important. If it is important to you then you are not there for the right reasons. Sing louder and show your support they will come find you.

Turn Option B into terraces and after we leave it could be turned into another picnic area.

    Your input is noted. Thanks.

At this point, that is not an option. It was discussed, but at this point it is not on the table.

as stated before, i am extremely against the berm, the angle of the hill is too much and makes it way too dangerous ... so far MLS has not had a tragedy (that i know of at least) and i think this non-seating area would be the cause of the first one.

i expect we all would like the price but it will come at a much heavier price

Option A will give really really good sightlines.
but then again, option B(Berm), if you are right down in front, will get you inside the head of the goalkeeper - you are practically on the field.

Option A will have assigned seats too. Option B would not.

Honestly I think that if somehow Option B could have that grass terraced, it'd be perfect, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

Basically we have to decide about being down close, able to get in the keeper's head, on a grass hill (that in someplaces is steep) where we will actually impact the game versus a higher view(but a very good one) with assigned seating and more expensive seats. Both are attractive.

Either way, it sorta does have the potential to hurt Cauldron growth.

The location of the Cauldron itself doesn't affect me (since I am a simple "hand-sitter"), but it may affect what seats I actually choose since I was considering looking at the bleacher seats. I am confused about something....the seating chart shows that the entire left field area is bleachers, not a grass berm. Although pictures clearly show it is a grass berm at the present time, why would they show that section as bleachers on the seating chart and also charge a higher price if it is going to remain a grass berm? Just wanted some clarification.....thanks. :)

    I Knew it!

I think that initially it was decided that the grass area was to be turned into bleachers but that has changed. If it remains a berm, it will be $150 for tickets.

    ----

I know there are price per game amounts out there. But again, incase one didn't know, bleachers are $324 and berm is $150. For me this affects whether or not I buy a 2nd season ticket for my kids to share.

Dude....should have been easy to figure that one out with the way I fought you on the terminology (or your use of the term without quotation marks or happy faces) a few weeks ago. :D I usually don't bite unless provoked....:p

"Hand-sitter" discussion aside, I think both options are very good for the next two seasons.

My personal preference is the berm, *ONLY* if they do something toward assuring our safety on the hill. If they leave it as is, then I want nothing to do with it because it is asking for huge problems trying to cram 300-600 drunkards on a steep incline.

If the T-Bones can terrace the area or put up some sort of hand-rails, I would be all for us using the berm; but since it sounds like that is not an option, I think the left field seats are the better option for us as a section.

but then if it is true and a spade is a spade then why would the spade mind being called such?

    :)

ok, didn't mean to thread jack.

C'mon Cauldronites, speak up on this... la porra/american outlaws/etc - whoever stands in the Cauldron. Of course, I guess there are those here on BS that want to know where the Cauldron will be so they can "sit" as far away as possible. :)

the FO needs to know soon so that they can block the area off from being taken on the STH seat night thing they are planning.

Shouldn't your option B be marked on the opposite side of the field? That's where the grass berms are no. The "B" in you illustration is on a spread of bleachers.

It would be cool if they could concrete in some basic Post holes on the grassy noll with some sort of way to add and remove the cross bars for Wizards games for a mild terracing effect. I believe a T-bones games that berm is designed for more of a sit on a blanket picnic type option. I really don't see Wizards fans standing there during games that are not part of a supporters section.

Yes but I thought I read where they will be installing raised bleachers over that spec of land. In fact it is even listed in the Wizards seating arangement as "Bleachers".

Things change. As of this moment, the left field berm (identified herein as Option B) will remain a grass berm. There will be bleachers at the top of the berm, but not on the berm itself.
