Mexico gets 3 spots for this. Will MLS ever get any spots? MLS doing well against FMF clubs in SuperLiga. :D

Maybe they could merge InterLiga and SuperLiga. Top 3 to Copa Libertadores.

forget mexico splitting spots with mls, if MLS get any spot they will get separated.

i think MLS deserve 1 spot for 3 years, as a test inclusion.

Give them one spot for the winner and one qualifying spot for the US Cup winner or so

Although I love cheering for all Mexican teams that make it to Copa Libertadores, it would be interesting to see an MLS team in. It would sure help the MLS internationally. I'm not sure, but I think there is a way MLS teams can qualify to Copa Sudamericana which is the second most important cup after Libertadores. I think the winner or the runner-up of the CONCACAF Champions Cup gets a ticket to Copa Sudamericana. It's not Copa Libertadores, but Copa Sudamericana is also a good opportunity for MLS teams.

I checked, and the runner-up of the CONCACAF Champions Cup is selected to go into Copa Sudamericana. They started doing this in the year 2005, and only Mexican teams have been runner-up since that year so no MLS team has been able to qualify to Copa Sudamericana.

MLS should thank conmebol for letting their teams play in a south american tournament (sudamericana) after disrespecting more than once the copa America. US soccer does not deserve any spots in south american tournaments, its that simple. If MLS really wants to improve its quality, they needs to stop making those dumb money-maker tournaments like "superliga" and start giving 100% on real international competition. once they prove they really want to compete, then they shoud receive a chance.

That's true, they did diss Copa America by sending the JV squad to play in the tournament. I know they want to give the young players some playing time, but the squad they took had no chance period in the Copa America. If MLS teams want to compete against some of the best teams in the Americas, there is no question that Sudamericana is their best opportunity. We're talking about games against the best clubs in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and all other South American countries and those are big opportunities.

DC United is qualified for Copa Sudamericana 2007 by virtue of a 3rd place finish at the 2007 CONCACAF Champions' Cup according to Wikipedia. They play at Chivas on October 2nd in the round of 16.

Here is the latest proposal by the MLS to CONMEBOL:

Any team that has David Beckham in its roster automatically qualifies for Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

CONMEBOL is currently considering the revenue ramifications of the proposal.

haha will be fun to beat becks who sucks as well as the worst team in teh MLS the Galaxy

I think that brasil/ argentina should both lose a spot .

MLS should get 2 spots as well as Mexico but they ahve to eliminate them selfs so only 1 of them makes it to the 2nd round ala the other 8 SA countries.

In copa Libs 1 should have to go into qualifing and based on how they do they can later get more or less spots

1 thing is for sure Brasil, Argentina and Mexico should have less spots. They are half the tournie every tournie we have and before I get hate mail the fact that the #10 team in both leagues is in Copa Sudamericana is a joke and disrespectful to the other SA countries as it is that Mexico ahs more spots than Colo, Paraguay and URuguay who have won the Lib.

Using Superliga as a measure of growth for the MLS? A tourney where MLS teams have homefield advantage the entire tourney and where Mexican teams were debuting 15 and 16 year old players? Hhmm...

MLS obviously is on a lower level than FMF, but they are n better level than bolivia, for example.

maybe so but boliva is in the comenbol and should be in our competitions

THe thing about the sudamericana is that these Concacaf invited teams are getting more spots than just about every other country other than Arg, brasil

Also why does River and Boca get a bye? from the 1st round?

River hasnt been good in like 5 years

Yeah, that's not fair for the other countries in Sudamerica. The good thing is that this tournament is getting the best teams of the Americas to compete against each other, although I don't really like the format of the Sudamericana.

    i'm don't saying bolivia don't deserve a spot.

i'm only saying that the argument of MLS isn't good level of soccer enough to play in Libertadores isn't correct.

river and boca get a direct spot by ranking, a dumb decision of AFA, amateur thinkining that we in brazil suffer too but are fighting to develop our league.

Hey, I am all for it! Any possibility of bringing River to Los Angeles (especially for an actual tournament, rather than a friendly) sounds great to me.

    Proposal approved by Locoxriver.

I think the Libertadores sould be only South Americans teams but maybe the winners of Mexican league and MLS, so 1 Mexican and 1 MLS team but no more than that. More MLS teams can go to the Sudamericana.

MLS teams aren't ready for Libertadores. I would like to see MLS teams make some real noise in the two tournaments they already play in before trying to get greedy and jumping up to be slaughtered by the big boys. Two or three years from now may be a bit of a different story.

The difference is , Mexican clubs bring millions of fans which equals to lots of $$$$ to CONMEBOL and TV networks. And thats something that unfortunately MLS clubs can't do yet (they have no substantial fan base...yet). But they are working on it.;)

[IMG]sTOP INVITING MORE MEXICAN OR MLS TEAMS. South american tournaments are for sudamerica only...if they wanna know who is the best in the whole americas, concacaf and conmebol should agree to restore the old and defunct Iter American cup, in which the ultimate Concacaf champion plays the ultimate Libertadores champion in a home-away match that will decide who the big boy is

DC Won that against Vasco in 98'!

With that said, MLS teams still have to get their feet wet a little more before going to Libertadores. Those are the big boys, not just some invitee's in sudamericana. Its more tradition in the CL. But give it time, MLS will be making waves soon enough in the CL, i give it less than 10 yrs.
