Same way that UEFA Cup will play second to Champions League forever. They're designed that way.

I'm glad that at least Venezuela-Ecuador, Paraguay-Uruguay, Chile-Bolivia and Peru-Colombia teams get to play with some other country before facing same country elimination. Still it is unfair that DC United and two mexican teams make it to round of 16 directly.

    Re: Copa Sudamericana 2007

Sounds good, but at the end it's pretty much the same.

Buena CONMEBOL!

Interesting little note I read the other day:

Out of 28 teams, only 10 will qualify to the last 16. That is a ridiculous ratio.

    Re: Copa Sudamericana 2007

One simple solution would be add some set MLS spots and have the MLS and Mexican teams compete in the prelim round to earn spots in the Round of 16. [This obviously doesn't pertain to Pachuca this year who earned their spot in the Round of 16 by winning Sudamericana in 2006.]

    Re: Copa Sudamericana 2007

I have a couple of questions about the Copa Sudamericana.
    1. Is the Copa Sudamericana straight knock-out or is there group play.
    2. I remember in the Copa Libertadores that the away goal rule was in affect like in europe. Does this rule also apply in Copa Sudamericana.

    1. No groups, only knockouts in home/away format.

    2. Yes, the away goals rule is in effect.

If this is a true Cup for the Americas, then CONCACAF should have 4 spots out of the final 16 (or 2 in the final 8). I wouldn't mind CONCACAF having 8 spots in the final 32, for instance, but MLS and MFL probably would prefer to have less teams and less games because of fixture congestion.

IT IS NOT a Cup for the Americas.

The CONCACAF clubs get invited cause that means more $$$$ for Leoz's fat ass.

That is sort of what they do except the prelim round is the MLS regular season.

El uruguayo Leo Medina puso el 2:0 para Audax.
    Ahora expulsaron a Lima (Wilstermann).

I agree that it makes more sense this way, although I hope both Colombian teams get through so Millos can humble Nacional in the next round.
