Hopefully some fans of clubs in the PDL Southwest division can chime in here about the great playoff race down there.

As a Tacoma Tide supporter I'll be following this week's results closely. Tacoma have clinched second place in the Northwest division and will face the winner of the SW. (BYU will face the #2 finisher.)

Right now San Fernando Valley Quakes lead, but they have played all of their matches. Here's the breakdown...

    1. San Fernando Valley Quakes (32 points, 16 matches, Goal Diff. +17)
    2. Fresno Fuego (29 points, 15 matches. Goal Diff. +11. @ SF Seals 7/21)
    3. Ventura County Fusion (29 points, 15 matches. Goal Diff. +9. LA Storm 7/20)
    4. San Jose Frogs (28 points, 15 matches. Goal Diff. +6. @SF Seals 7/22)

    Tiebreakers

Fresno holds the tiebreaker over SF Valley with a win and draw in head-to-head.
Fresno split with Ventura, exchanging 3-2 wins.

Ventura holds the tiebreaker over SF Valley with a win and a draw in head-to-head.

If all 3 clubs tie with 32 points then Fresno are the division winner, and Ventura are the second-place playoff club.

    Right?

I believe you are correct Sounderfan. And if you throw out head-to-head records in the event of a 3-way tie, then both Fresno and Ventura would top the Quakes with 10 league wins to the Quakes 9.

While the Seals are not in the playoff mix, we have a chance to determine who gets in with our matches this weekend. It could turn out that denying the Fuego and Frogs wins this weekend, could result in both being knocked out of the playoffs.

Seals have been playing much better of late giving up only two goals in their last five matches following the defeat to the Frogs down in San Jose.

From a Quakes point of view, the tiebreakers are as follows:

    - if Ventura lose or tie with LA Storm in their last match, then the Quakes go to the playoffs
    - if Fresno lose or tie with the Seals in their last match, , then the Quakes go to the playoffs
    - if both teams win, then they both go to the playoffs, and the Quakes miss out
    - San Jose can also act as a spoiler - if they win their last match against the Seals, and both Ventura and Fresno tie or lose, then the Frogs and the Quakes will go to the playoffs

I was at the Fusion-Seahorses game yesterday (cheering on the Seahorses, which felt weird...). Seahorses led 2-1 at one point, a result which would have put the Quakes in the playoffs; Ventura turned it around to lead 3-2, only to concede an injury time equaliser and have the game finish 3-3. Exciting isn't it?

    GO SEALS!

From a Quakes fan. It's tough having to sit back and watch the results of other games and not having fate in your own hands, but with all of our ties we can only blame ourselves if we don't get in. You guys have been playing great defense lately. Here's to hoping you can put a few in the net this weekend.

I feel its worth pointing out that theres a great race going on in the Heartland division

St. Louis- 27 points (Springfield, @ Kansas City)
Thunder Bay- 27 ponts (Des Moines, Des Moines)
Kansas City- 26 points (St. Louis)
Des Moines- 25 points(@ Thunder Bay, @ Thunder Bay)
    Colorado- 23 points (@Loredo, @ BYU)

KC and Colorado played on Sunday and before the game started all 5 of these teams controlled their own destiny. With that game ending in a 0-0 tie now only St. Louis (needs one win), Thunder Bay (needs one win) and Des Moines (needs at least a win and a tie) control their own destiny. Just thought Id share an equally interesting race with you. Looks like yours is really gonna come down to the wire. Good luck.

To me, it looks like a three-way tie between the Fusion, Fuego, and Frogs for second place would go to Fresno.

Also, three teams are fighting for the top two spots in both the Northeast and Southeast division, and five teams are still alive for second place in the South division.

You guys have a great race going on as well.

I got an email from the league stating that that tables as they are today do not have the tiebreakers in the calculation.

I have run thru most of the ties and it looks like the tiebreakers are computing.

Am I wrong? Are you guys seeing the same thing?

It could be that the "if / then" checks of the tables are only able to do numerical differentiations (i.e. total points, total league wins, goal dif, etc.) and not be able to calculate/display head-to-head games.

I would chime in with some input on this one but you guys have detailed it, shined it up and rolled through the neighborhood with it...

Our BOYS are ready for an all-out war against San Francisco this weekend and MUST NOT overlook the Seals because they are TOUGH as nails.

All I know is, I'm taking my family to spend quality time in the BAY, with hopes of returning home with a "FUEGO VICTORY" and a PLAYOFF BERTH...

    GO FUEGO!!!

With the Bucks already qualified I am hoping that our owners can win the contract to host a round here in MI. I would love to see some of the other teams that we usually dont' get to around here.

The Eastern Conference is all set with the Hampton Roads Piranhas and the Ocean City Barons representing the Mid-Atlantic Division. The Brooklyn Knights and the Cape Cod Crusaders will be representing the Northeast Division.

The games will be played in Ocean City.

As a San Fernando Valley Quakes fan, my preferred result, really, would be a Fusion loss on Friday, and then (when the end result doesn't matter for us) a Fuego victory on Saturday. I like the Fresno organization a lot, I like what they're doing up there, and I think it would be nice if Fresno and the Quakes went to the playoffs together.

Thank very much, Fuego has taken the right approach...

I read in your post you were here in Fresno the last time Fuego and Quakes met. I probably met you at the entrance promoting the Fuego Authentic Jersey Giveaway! (everytime Fuego scores, we give one away to a lucky fan...courtesy of MC Mortgage)

I also, read about the co-owner/player/coach Matt ? I can't remember the last name. Anyway, that is exactly how Fuego began with many of us wearing many hats and now the franchise is seing it's fruits grow (Thank GOD)...

    Looking forward in meeting again.

I wasn't at the Fresno-Quakes game in Fresno, but I WAS at the Fresno-Quakes game in Los Angeles, and also the Fresno-Ventura game in Ventura. I was standing behind the three Fresno fans at the Ventura game, and had a quick chat to one of you after the game - might this have been you?

Mat Davis. He was in the Los Angeles Daily News the other day, talking about he's the team's owner, midfield playmaker, team bus driver and uniform washer. A man of many hats, and a hugely dedicated promoter of good football, and the USL.

What I like about the Fresno organisation is the way they are developing the fan base there - the move into Chukchansi Park, the cross-promotion with the Grizzlies. Any PDL team who can get 2000+ to their games are worth respect, and you guys are doing it week-in-week-out. You deserve the success, and I always cheer for you... except when you're playing against the Quakes of course ;)

I remember last year when you were down here I had a really nice chat with Fabricio Codeceira before the game, he seemed like another good kid, good player too.

Yes, those 3 fans at the Fresno/Ventura game were my brother, our VP of Soccer Operations and myself. My brother and I are the founding fathers of this team. Purchased the franchise from San Luis Obispo in 2002 and (Lord Willing) are looking forward to USL-1 in 2010. Throughout the years, we have come accross a lot of great people and have recently partnered with even greater folks.

Fabricio (Fabi), is an unbelievable kid. Getting to know him has been a pleasure throughout the years. Now, he's calling upon his troops back home to continue the Brazilian reign in Fresno...

Mat, I know what that gentleman is going through. There comes a time when one asks himself; "Is this worth it?"... and GOD bless it, IT IS!

You spoke to my brother but I was right there getting some coffee and listening in your conversation. Everywhere we go, we try to make one more friend. And if we were too loud and obnoxious, we apologize its' in our bloodstream to chant. LOL...

    Hope we meet one day...

Have you noticed that there has been very little involvement with people from the Central Conference? It is because we sit back and let all the other conference fans have fun speculating on who will play the Central Conference winner in the Championship game. This is because........

    the Central Conference.......................

OWNS THE PDL. Like the commercial....."always has, always will". Put Hampton Roads in the Central and they have 5 losses like the rest of us.

Two years ago, we had to sit back and hear all season long how good the Orange County team was (sent them back to Cali with no hardware), how good the El Paso team was (sent them home as the first loser). So, no need to even get involved in these discussions. Just in case you were wondering.

Does anyone know how many PDL teams actually do this? I know that my Menace get about 3500+, but that is way above other Central Conference teams. Anyone know?

You guys are good, no doubt!!! Every year since Fuego's inception, I have sat with someone from your organization/staff (@ the USL combine) and picked at their brain. Now, we are right behind you in fan base (with 3000+ avg) a game.
    Q: What's next?
    A: Dethroning...

As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the only ones who are regularly breaking 1000 per game this year are Des Moines, Fresno, Ventura and Mississippi, which is pretty good considering two of those four are expansion franchises.

We (the San Fernando Valley Quakes) tend to average between 200-300 a game, which is pretty much in the middle of the league average, although we did break our regular season attendance record in our season finale, with almost 450. We got over 1,000 at our friendly with LA Galaxy last season, but I don't count that as a 'proper' tally as it was a one-off friendly.

These are the 12 teams in the PDL that are averaging 2 points per game or better. Should be the ones in competition for the championship!

Your stats don't mean much. The real test is in the quality of the competition. If we had 3 or 4 teams in our conference that were patsys (3 wins or less) then we'd have more points per game also.

But, I'll save the smack and just let the outcomes speak for themselves.
