Viasat Sport Division, (Round 30 of 30) :

    AGF v Hellerup IK 1-3 (1-2)
    0-1 Steffen Hartmann (7’)
    1-1 Peter Sand (20’)
    1-2 Danny Andersen (37’)
    1-3 Jesper Duelund (56’)
    Attendance: 17,470

    AGF lineup (4-4-2):

    ................................. Steffen Rasmussen (24)

    F. Krabbe (19).. Ole Budtz (28).. Anders Kure (21).. M. Lumb (19)

    Jeremiah White (25).. Peter Sand (35).. Svenne Poulsen (26).. L. Pleidrup (25)

    ................. Mike Tullberg (21)... Rasmus Katholm (26)

    Subs:
Peter Sand / Jimmy Høyer (60')
Svenne Poulsen / Anders Syberg (debut) (60')
Rasmus Katholm / Lasse Vibe (debut) (60')
    ---

    HIK (4-4-2):
David Ousted – Lasse Jensen, Nicki AlbekKasper Pilmark, Michael Christensen – Steffen Hartmann (Morten Mortensen), Jacob Josephsen, Jesper Duelund, Emil Dyre (72: Mads Knudsen) – Danny Andersen (44: Dennis Ramonn Olsen), Andreas Mortensen..
    ---

The players were already on vacation it seemed, so it was crap from start to finish... Though this match had no real significance for the team, it was still a very disappointing performance by the players when so many supporters had showed up to watch them play.

On the other hand we can be happy about an average home attendance of 8,883 this season. Not only is this an all-time record in the Danish Viasat Sport Division, but it was also the 3rd biggest average in compare with the Danish Superliga clubs, behind the Champions FC København (a 23,795 average) and Brøndby (13,944).

That 8 minute highlight video of Jeremiah White on page 16 shows exactly why I'm very excited about this kid. He seems to be a late developer, and shows quick footwork, pure speed, and an ability on the ball that I haven't seen in too many American players. From the videos I've seen of him, I'd call him a cross between a Freddy Adu and a DaMarcus Beasley, just in terms of style of play. Seems to have some of the breakaway pace of Beasley, and some of the dazzling, quick footwork of Adu.

Right midfield is one of our thinnest positions on the national team, and I really hope White gets a run-out perhaps in the Sweden friendly in August or in one of our October friendlies. I know he needs to start performing against some higher competition, but he's going to have that chance next year in the SuperLiga, and I hope we see him don a USMNT shirt sometime soon as well.

I'd love to see him do well in the Superliga, and then get a shot at the Nats. Heck if Charlie Davies gets a shot, well, he's got 9 pro games - should give JW a shot.

Today, AGF signed a 3-year contract with the 27-yo midfield dynamo Jerry Lucena, who has played 245 first-team games for the Danish Superliga side Esbjerg fB.

According to fairly reliable rumours AGF are now trying to sign a forward and a left back/winger.

Two names are on the table, as written elsewhere AGF have made a bid on Viborg left winger/back Christopher Poulsen, who has won 2 caps for the Danish League NT. If the deal should fail, AGF are rumoured to be looking at a left back solution in Sweden.

AGF have also made a bid on the 30-yo former OB Odense forward/ right winger Søren Berg, who has won 2 caps for Denmark and 9 caps for the Danish League NT. He is suppose to be the replacement for Peter Sand who is turning 35 next month and is soon going to retire as a player and take on the job as assistent coach at AGF. So far the Norweigan Tippeliga side Viking FK have refused the offer made by AGF and according to rumours AGF are also looking at a forward in Belgium.

Btw, if I should try to pin a name on the Swedish left back AGF are looking at, then AGF have often signed players from the Swedish top-flight side Malmø FF, and it so happens that the almost 25-yo Malmø left back, Christian Järdler is not happy with the Malmø head coach Søren Aakeby (who used to be head coach at AGF, before he got axed and moved to Malmø) and want to leave the club. Järdler used to play for Turkish side Genclerbirligi and he has won 5 caps for the Swedish U21 NT :

Perhaps some bad news for Jeremiah White ?

Alex Valencia to AGF Aarhus ?

AGF now seem to be very close to signing the 27-yo quick and technically very strong Norwegian right winger/forward Alex Valencia, who has won 5 caps for the Norwegian NT. Valencia who was born in Colombia, but moved to Norway at the age of 7, now admit that he infact could be on his way to Denmark, while according to fvn.no then IK Start and AGF have more or less agreed on a transfer.

Valencia has been injured of lately, but was selected by Norwegian TV2 Nettavisen and the big Norwegian newspaper VG as 'Tippeliga Player of the Year 2005' playing as right winger for IK Start.

In any case, White is also able to play in left wing position and both Valenca and White can be used as forwards, so it's probably no big disaster.... we also dont know exactly what AGF coach Ove Pedersen has in mind... as written elsewhere, he do like his wingers to move from right to left and back again and also to make some raids from the central part of the pitch.

Good news and bad news for AGF...

Bad news... One year in the Danish Viasat Sport division was a bit more costly than expected, so the AGF accounts show a $1.2 million deficit ths season...

Good News... The new AGF investors have promised to buy atleast $7.2 million worth of new AGF stock, mainly to be used on signing new players to reinforce the team.

Valencia was in that traveling Norwegian squad that landed in HDC with one giant thud in Jan, 2006.

Yes, but your not just allowed to go out and "print" some new stocks whenever you feel the need for some extra $$. It takes time, so I belive the $7.2 million will be available for the mid season winter transfer window.

    Alex Valencia to AGF Aarhus

The newly promoted Danish Superliga side AGF Aarhus have sigen a 3-year contract with the 27-yo quick Norwegian right winger Alex Valencia , who has played 136 games in the Norwegian Tippeliga and so far won 5 caps for the Norwegian NT. He was also selected by TV2 Nettavisen and the big Norwegian newspaper VG as 'Tippeliga Player of the Year 2005' playing for IK Start. Valencia was born in Colombia, but moved to Norway at the age of 7 and has played at top-flight level for Brann and IK Start. The transfer fee is said to be only around $500,000.

By signing Alex Valencia, AGF have made a scoop according to the former FC København, Wimbledon and Norwich forward David Nielsen who now ply his trade in the Norwegian league for IK Start

    - "He's a quite fantastic player. It's completely incomprehensible that Start has let him leave. It's quite an excellen purchase by AGF. He is so good that if FC København had bought him, I would not have been surprised," David Nielsen says to bold.dk.

    - "He can make a difference and make AGF score lots of goals. He makes good crosses and is quite capable individually. He's a very atypical player in Norway," the IK Start attacker adds.

Ulrik Lindkvist close to signing a deal

AGF now also seem very close to signing the 26-yo FC Midtjylland all-round right/left back/midfielder, Ulrik Lindkvist. The two clubs have already agreed on a transfer, but according to Lindkvist, then AGF have not quite agreed to his personal demands, though Lindkvist says that they are not all that far from an agreement. Lindkvist also say that he has other offers and that a move to Spain perhaps could be an option if he is not able to come to a final agreement with AGF.

    No contratc to Christopher Poulsen

It seems that AGF very quickly gave up on Viborg left back/winger Christopher Poulsen, because they didnt want to pay a transfe fee of around $550,000 :

"It's no secret that AGF were interested in me. But the door was quickly closed because I was too expensive for them. The bid from AGF was relatively low compared to the price Viborg were asking to get", Christopher Poulsen said.

Well, the AGF coach is Ove Pedersen seem to think very highly of Alex Valencia, and only see him as a quick right winger, so I think he is going to move White to either the left wing position or use him as a forward... Valencia is especially known to be excellent at crossing (by far the best in the Norwegian league), while he's not much of a goal scorer.

As you probably noticed in the 8 minute highlight video on page 16, then White look good in attack when he make some of his very quick raids from the central part of the pitch, but so far his crossing has not been all that sharp looking, so I think coach Pedersen want to move White to the left wing postition and let him move around alot to make some quick raids... It makes very good sense because AGF is going to use two rather defensive minded holding midfielders in the central part of the pich, so he need atleast one of his wingers to be very "flexible" ..

Are you sure that's what they're doing?

I was wondering where you were during the good moments on this thread recently, Martin! I kid, I kid.

The coach said in one of the articles posted here a few weeks ago that he enjoys having JW on the side because he can use him in a variety of positions. So given his numerous MOTM performances at the end of the season and the glowing commentary about him from a variety of sources, it seems like they may be looking to find improvements on the field when they're available and then use Jeremiah as a point of strength. Just my rather uneducated opinion from this side of the pond, but that's my suspicion.

Well, if you want someone with a good crossing ability, Norway is the place to go.

They do launch them up there.

...and Ulrik Lindkvist has signed a 3-year deal with AGF. The transfer fee is said to be only around €33,000... very good deal as well..

AGF have played their first pre-season match against Superliga rivals Viborg FF (and Robbie Russell ).

... Jeremiah White got to play 89 minutes (the last 26 minutes in right wing position) and made an assist..

The first round of the 2007/08 Superliga season kicks off on July 18 :

    http://www.bolddk.com/statistik/tabel.php?liga=1&saeson=42&program=fuldt#kampprogram

... It's actually a big problem that the Danish Superliga finished their last round on May 27, while the the last round of the Danish Viasat Sport Division was on June 24, so ther is almost no vacation for the two newly promoted teams AGF and Lyngby... and you have to be quick about signing your reinforcements in time.

So, basically, there are no summer vacations for the promoted clubs, just the winter vacation.

Ah, what the heck ... Jerry needs experience, not rest, anyway.
