Well, duh, pretty sure there's not a human being that's been born that can be worth that money, no one player can be worth that many times more than the other ten guys on the team, but lets be honest, people with that kinda money to spend have got to that position by being pretty business savvy, it would be a surprise if it's any kind of gamble from a pure economics stance. If it gets 10 more american fans in the turnstiles per game, well that's what, $1million in hot-dog sales alone! As for savior, well, once upon a time the prem didn't attract foreign players, until a certain Mr Hoddle managed to get Ruud Gullit to pre-cheat-ski. He was over the hill, but he told his hip young mates that the prem was a decent working environment and hey presto, the prem became the coolest place to work for soccerball players
Look, think about the level Becks is playing at right now, and the level he'll be playing at in MLS. Think about it, do you really think players like Donovan, Angel, and Johnson are better than Ronaldinho, Van Nistelrooy, and Villa? I think not. That said, i'm not at all saying he'll score tons of goals; that's not his role; but if there aren't players there to get on the end of his crosses, then he'll have to rely solely on his set-pieces. BTW, Steven Cohen is right about a lot of things. Remember, he predicted Italy would win the World Cup from the get-go and that Toronto fans would put the rest of MLS to shame. Don't you think he'll be right this time?
Becks knew that he was dropping down a level when he decided to sign for galaxy. He wanted to wind down and work towards retirement. Like i said before I think he thought he was past his best when he signed for galaxy. Yeah MLS had some good players now, but none of them are at their peak. I think this picture shows how Becks is feeling inside out his move in the summer : "WHAT HAVE I DONE? WAAHH! GUTTED!!" appleCORR
quick question on the beckham deal here. what happens if he is loaned out? does the galaxy still get the shirt rights and branding of beckham or would that go to the team which he would play for. honestly it could be better off for LA to send him back to europe and profit off his recent form and wait until next year to grab the US market. (that would be a $50 mil decision though)
Id guess the shirtsale would goto the club (ie who he loaned out to), to me loaning (whoring) him out to a euro club makes no sense, and who would wanna pay the monies for him on loan?! I don't think Becks felt HE was passed it, just that his time at Madrid was over becoz at the time capello was winning (ie not gonna be fired) without him, so Becks figured he had no future at Madrid, and where to go from there? Italy is a shambles and no-one else has the moolah. IMO he made the only choice available too him. As for selling out, well at least he's gone to a league with some potential, none of this BS Arab Oil League Marcel "FLN" Desailly rubbish
I think you also have to factor in the ego here. In MLS he gets to be big sh*t in a small bowl rather than just one of a number of stars like he is at Madrid. Additionally the next couple of seasons I think they're going to be building the Galaxy around him (for that kind of money, I can't see them not doing that). I never thought him going back to the EPL was realistic because if he did he'd want to go back to the top and ManU has no need for him nor does Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. Here in the states, for a while at least, no matter what he does it'll be looked on as magical even if it would only be run of the mill in a top league. Plus, the wife wants a movie career. And aren't they scientologists? If so I think they'd want to be near that crazy compound when the mothership or whatever it is comes and takes all their rich butts home.
I'm pretty stoked, I found out yesterday morning that I recevied a 5th place ribbon at the San Diego County Fair photo exhibition for a photo I took. Made my whole month!!
Well done man, I checked out the photo you took on MySpace as well. Must be quite an honour considering most of the pics I take are of me drunk or my daughter wearing Arsenal shirts
What an amazing night of Spanish football! Sevilla drew 0-0, Barcelona came back from a goal down to lead 2-1 going into the dying stages, Real 1-0 then 2-1 down, then at virtually identical times Barca concede and Real equalise. It stands to be an amazing final weekend...my money's on Madrid at the moment but Sevilla are ready to capitalise if Barca and Real f*ck up.
I would like to see Sevilla because its someone different and Real and Barca both have been playing like shit
Bloody hell...now Ramon Calderon says Madrid will make "every effort" to keep David Beckham. Shame they didn't do that before. This will be interesting to see what deal they offer him...
Honestly, if I was Becks I wouldn't want to stay at Real for the fact that suddenly they're treating him like royalty. I'm sortof glad he's getting out like Ronaldo did, regardless of where he's going to play. and I would have liked to see Valencia make a stronger push for the title. I like David Villa's play.
I dont think he can do anything about it. Becks as already signed a contract. ___________ Wow I have spent the whole weekend doing end of the year projects. I am completing a Sociology project were I have written with a partner a 9 page report. My topic is trying to find a solution to the homeless problem in Orange County. By next year I better win a Nobel Peace Prize I also have to complete a group book project later today
i hate the end of the year projects. i had one last year that i had to write a 15 page single spaced report on the chemical and mechanical properties (on an atomic level) of a certain type of carbon fiber. i only got about 8 pages and prayed to god my powerpoint was good enough. i ended up with a b.
The thing is, Beckham hasn't signed a contract. He has signed a pre-contract agreement which states that when his Real contract expires he will give first option to a contract with Galaxy with the terms that were set out. It isn't a playing contract, as yet Galaxy do not own his registration, and really and truly a pre-contract agreement is nothing more than a Gentleman's agreement. If he wanted to stay he could get out of it. He'd look like an ass for reneging on his word, but it depends on how bad he wants to stay at Madrid (which I don't think he does).
Yo, Madrid looks like a sinking ship. It may not be, and jumping now may prove in the long run to be premature, but they need so many more players, and the success of any such signings will take a while to determine (not like "Oh we got Henry, we'll win the league"), as Real's shortcomings are so prevalent, that Becks would be a fool to stay. For footballing reasons alone, as the current state of play explained by bigg is, he should get out.
with microsoft word, go to edit> replace> and in find what, put in a period ( . ) in with what, put another period. click the more tab, and go to format>font and change the size from 12 to 14. it replaces all the periods, thus making your paper longer. depending on how much you have done, it can really do wonders. you can do the same thing for question marks, exclamation points, etc. but I wouldn't on quotations as those are quite obvious that you've messed with the size of your font. the rest though are virtually unnoticable. and that's what I've learned in college.
