from the FC Bayern site here. It says Hargreaves is on vacation in Canada before reporting to Manchester United on July 1. Does anyone else think it might be tempting to Owen to come watch a TFC game in one of them box seats since he is back in Canada? I sure as hell think so, and hope so. It's just too bad that none of my Bayern trikots (jerseys) have his name and number on it :(

I really thought you were going to say he has been seen at a game and were speculating if he might want to play here. :p

I could see MLSE wining and dining him and giving him a nice luxury box to watch a game. Maybe thinking very long-term about a possible DP signings.

Though no Canadian player needs to even show their face in Canada to be linked with Toronto.

Owen Hargreaves back stabbed us.

17 years in this country isn't good enough for him to represent us? Rather be a fake Englishman?

Screw Owen Hargreaves, I hope he gets booed if they show him on the big screen.

That's a lame excuse to not play for your real national team. Players get cut from teams all the time, this just makes the Whore look like a big baby. I guess Sidney Crosby should quit Canadian hockey since he was left off the 2006 Olympic team as well.

I hope the Whore comes to a TFC game, so I can boo his traitor ass. I'm sure I could get most of the U-Sector to create a chant to welcome him to Toronto. We are all mostly Canadian National Team fans. Most people in our group don't care for his antics.

You're an idiot. There's no need to try and pull the rest of U-sector down with you though.

No need to insult me.

Whoregreaves gets insulted because he deserves it.

Any person who considers themselves a real fan of the Canadian national team would have little respect for the Whore. I know that there are a lot of people in the U-Sector that hate the Whore. Starting an anti-Whoregreaves chant wouldn't bring the U-Sector down, it would only make them cooler.

You're a wanker, You're a wanker,
You're a wanker, Owen H.
Who's your girlfriend?
You don't have one,
You're a wanker Owen H.

Please feel free to add your own anti-Whore chants.

If he ever makes it to BMO Field, we need to 'welcome' him.

Dude, he was born in Canada, but his family was totally British, he was the only person in his family not born in Britain. and we are all apart of the same commonwealth. have some decency.

Figoisgod can pretty much be ignored, since he is a Real Madrid fan, and we all know he's probably still sore over being beaten in 11 seconds. :D

but to all you detractors, I'd just like to say one thing:

So let me get this straight: you're all saying Klose, Podolski, Camaronesi are all traitors also?

I wouldn't chant that tripe and I certainly hope no one else does. Yeah it sucks that he chose one of his other possible nationalities to play for. Get over it. It doesn't make him a bad person or someone worthy of that level of ridicule.

The anti-Hargreaves and anti-de Guzman (for potentially playing for the Dutch) idiocy needs to stop. Grow up.

Cheers!

he simply plays for his ancestral homeland, so I'm guessing you guys are saying because he plays soccer for a different team, that he is all of a sudden a traitor and should be hung high in the street? give me a break, he's won UCL, how many other Canadians do you know who have done that?

He's a traitor because he lied about playing for Canada. He went on SoccerCentral and told Jerry Dobson that he was going to suit up for Canada. For the longest time, he kept claiming that he was still a proud Canadian, despite suiting up for another national team. It was only recently that he started to denounce Canada and try to distance himself from his Canadianess. This was most likely due to the ribbing he may have received by people in England for not being English enough.

The 'I was born British, it just happened to be in Canada' quote he made recently is despicable.

Take your Bayern-tinged fanboy glasses off for a second and stop making excuses for him.

He's a traitor. End of story.

End of story? 'Nuff said? Case closed? pfffffffft.

Discussions go both ways...

Brett Hull played hockey for the US because he was once "turned away" by the Canadian team.

Steve Nash has previously declined to play basketball for Team Canada.

Every 2 years, hundreds of Olympic athletes "denounce" their citizenship and/or place of birth to represent a country of their heritage (id est, a parent's birth country).

It's odd how in this day and age people will still spread hatred based on lines on a map.

How often have you heard someone say something in the soccer world, then a while later they go back on it? it happens millions of times (i.e. Ribery), it's no reason to hate a guy. How is this situation any different than the situation of Hamit and Halil Altintop?

If all you're here for is denouncing him, well then take off.

So so far for Narduch's list of people we should hang for being traitors we have: Hargreaves, Camaronesi, Hamit and Halil Altintop, Klose and Podolski

Wow - do some of you have a clue as to who plays for Canada today and where some of our greats have come from? Does Radzinski deserve being called "traitor" since he's from Poland? Do you know that almost half of the people living in Toronto where born in another country. Are we all "traitors" just because we "adopt" another nation?

Owen is playing on the biggest stage in the world - he would NEVER have the opportunity to do that playing for Canada. He has every right to play for his parent's homeland. Would you choose to play for a team ranked #92 or one of the great football nations of the world?

Get a grip - he's a Canadian success story and like me, proud to be Canadian and English.

Who cares about what other players did! If Poles want to call those "Germans" traitors then they can go right ahead. Here are the facts:

Hargreaves was born in Canada
Hargreaves played youth soccer in Canada until 16
Hargreaves was cut from the Canada U17 as a 15 yr. old
Hargreaves goes to Bayern Munich
Hargreaves plays for Wales in an unofficial friendly
Hargreaves says on National TV that he's choosing to play for Canada
Hargreaves picks England because his dad is English
Hargreaves has never lived in England
Hargreaves is a traitor

That's it. I can't stand that soooo many years later we are still having this conversation. Back turns on him the same way he did to us....

Don't forget the Canadians... erm rather not Canadians who play or played for Team Canada.

Marc Bircham anyone?
Iain Hume?
Mike Kluwkowski?
Even Radzinski to an extent.

and don't forget Alex Bunbury. Get over it people.

If he thought he was so british, why did he even try out for the Canadian team? The guy has no honor, and in my opinion he's right to be labelled a 'persona non grata' by Canadian soccer fans.

He should be as unwelcome as Roger Clemens to the city of Boston. If he knew what's good for him, he should be well away from anything soccer related in Canada. He's better off going to a blue jays game or something.

I don't have a problem with Hargreaves playing for England...his whole family and his heritage is British, he's the only one born in Canada, so why the hell not? However de Guzman playing for Netherlands would annoy me since he has no heritage there...only connection is he plays there.

btw if you're so proud of being Canadian, spell honour correctly.

There a big difference between club and country. Don't try to meld them together.

I don't like the Whore, and you do. Let's just leave it there. Neither of us are going to change the other's mind.

Have a nice day.

He mislead the Canadian Soccer viewing public in believeing he was going to play for Canada. He once said he was proud to be Canadian and now he just says that it was a case of circumstance.

How can you not hate the guy?

When you lose someone of Hargreaves' talent, it hurts, and Canadian Soccer suffers.

Umm... because he lived here and they were the ones that started his football career? It's not like he's ever said f*ck Canada.

I've still yet to see anyone respond about quite possibly the best ever player to play for the CMNT... Bunbury. He was born and raised in Jamaica right? But that's ok because he played for Canada.

BULLSH*T, if you don't take it both ways you're a f*cking hypocrite.

Ahh Jarrek, someone who finally argues a valid point. :) This I can understand, people argueing his background is just pointless. It bothers me, but in the same respect it's nice to see a 'Canadian' player playing at such a high level.
