Due to massive injuries at goalkeeper, Luis Robles will suit up and may start at home against Regionaliga Sud leaders Wehen today. A lot depends on whether Fromlowitz (#2 keeper) is slated to start for the 1st team on Sunday. In addition, Robles may suit up for the 1st team due to Macho (#1 keeper) having the stomach flu that has been running through the team. Decision to be made at game time.
He may soon pass Hahnemann as the biggest US keeper, at least in terms of muscle. [I am specifically using the term "muscle" as opposed to "size", "bulk" or "mass"; otherwise, Fat Tony would be #1.] How old is Robles, 21? 22? He'll probably still fill out a little more.
Fromlowitz suffered an injury in training and will be out for 2-3 weeks. This means Robles will be suited up and on the bench when Kaiserslautern travels to Aue on Friday. I do not know how this will effect the Kaiserslautern II game at 1860 II on Saturday. Aue is a suburb of Karsruhe and about 3 1/2 hour drive to Munich.
Yeah, I was gonna say, they are at opposite ends of an east-west axis as you can get in Germany...except for maybe Cottbus.
Think Chemnitz, sort of near Prague. Aue is in the Erzgebirge. I would say its about 500 clicks...give or take.
460 kms (if you can trust google ). To be fair, there are ten places in Germany named Aue though (Aue means meadow) - at least according to wikipedia. One of them is a part of Karlsruhe. Aue in Saxony is by far the biggest though (although with about 18.000 inhabitants it's not exactly huge).
Yes, but I figured the "erzgebirge" in their name gave it away. Sort of like "Salem" in the US. If I just said Salem you would wonder where it is. If I said "Blue Ridge Salem" that should narrow it down bit. Dude, good thing Alex_K caught that. Would have seen slightly amusing if you had driven to the Aue near Muenchen expecting to see an FCK game.
Robles sat the bench in Kaiserslautern's 1-0 loss at Aue in his first team debut. Robles travels to 1860 Munich to start for the amatures on Saturday. This will be his first game on the field for Kaiserslautern.
Robles had a rough couple of minutes, but then settled down in his first time taking the field as a professional for Kaiserslautern II against 1860 Munich II. 1860 opened the scoring in the 4th minute when two Kaiserslautern defenders collided (the German recap said in a slapstick fashion). In the 20th minute Robles made an excellent save on a break away, but the ball landing at the feet of an 1860 player and Robles took out his legs resulting in a yellow card and a penalty kick to put 1860 up 2-0. Kaiserslautern took one back in the 45th minute. Robles kept Kaiserslautern in the game long enough to allow an equalizer in injury time. The resulting 2-2 away tie keeps Kaiserslautern at the bottom of the table, but pulls them to within 5 pts of Pirmasens in 17th place and 10 pts from 1860 II outside of the relegation zone in 14th place. Next game is Friday at home against Hessen Kassel. Robles will be on the bench again for the first team's Monday game against 1860 at home as well.
Kassel scored a goal in the 69th minute and go on to win 0-1 over Kaiserslautern II. In spite of the goal Robles played a good game, making a number of good saves including a couple breakaways. Better than the first 20 minutes of last weeks game. Robles suits up for the first team on Monday.
Most of the fan talk has been more on in fact that there are now 4 keepers injured and an unknown American kid is the only backup. The reports I have seen have been positive on Robles, including match reports from both 1860 and Kassel. His first 20 minutes of the 1860 game showed his nervousness, but were tough situations. According to the Kassel report, Robles had a number of great saves to keep it from being worse. The Kaiserslautern defense was nonexistent. http://www.dasbesteausnordhessen.de/news.php?id=2668 http://www.tsv1860.de/?id=7511
Kaiserslautern II lost 0-2 at Hoffenheim, the second place team in the Regionaliga South. First goal was in the 25th minute when Robles bobbled the ball. The second in the 34th minute he had no chance. The rest of the game was pretty uneventful with Robles once again keeping the score from being worse due to the porous Kaiserslautern defense. The Kaiserslautern Amatures remain winless and at the bottom of the table. Robles suits up for the Sunday game with the first team in Freiburg.
