if phoeniz/arizona goes with a non-usa naming style (i kinda hope not), this would be a great idea for a logo and colors.

Firebirds, no. I can hear the flammer chants already.

Something to do with the heat (the temp. could be a hugh advantage) or something with a Mexican flavor would be fine with me.

I just hope they wouldn't pick anything to cartoony.

I prefer the traditional names (FC) and let the name get flushed out

i.e. with solid red kits, the name could be the Reds

I would strongly urge that the team use Phoenix, rather than Arizona, even if the stadium is built in Buckeye. Internationally, we are Phoenix, not the Valley (of the Sun). People know where Phoenix is...

Aavius suggested TSV 1868 Phoenix. I love that one.

No, no scum devil references. Make it orignal. Nothing that means heat, or dry, or dessert. I have no problem with RISING, that has a universal ring to it. There has to be something more regional, how about recognizing the native tribes which are UTO-AZTEC.

Nothing to do with wussyCats either and isn't it politically incorrect to infer native american nicknames... While I really like the name the Rising for the supporters, it would otherwise be in the realm of Clash and Mutiny in a team name...

Arizona Aztecs... GREAT suggestion coming from a wussycat fan!;)

The NASL team in Los Angeles had that name:

Firebirds was the first thing that came to my mind, as well. Is there something that Arizonans would dislike about that? To me it's a natural fit. It's alliterative, fits the area, brings in the Harry Potter fans (sorry), has some natural color combos that come to mind (red, orange, yellow, black), no other major league sports team in America has it...

It's not my team, and I don't live there, but I can't believe anyone wouldn't like this.

(By the way, if Phoenix DOES get a team, I'm transferring there, digging in, and buying two season tickets. Mark it down.)

Phoenix Firebirds were the Giants AAA team before the D-backs came to town... chances are it's already registered as is the name Phoenix Thunderbirds (non-profit that puts on the FBR Open), Chilies has been used, as has Salsa...

What about Arizona Rangers (as in the old time law enforcement rangers - not the ones in Glasgow, so as not to upset hoops fans out there)....

We probably couldn't use the the terms Arizona and Football Club together in any combination because the Bidwells would sue, I mean it they would too:cool: Anything to get them some more money and tick people off. That is their management style...

That name is being currently use. Based on the 1836 fiasco, I think Rangers will bring the same outcry.

I like the Phoenix Gunners reminds me of Arsenal. I don't know how the Colorado Rapids would like that given their association with Arsenal.

What about just Phoenix AFC or SC and let the supporters duke it out for the nickname? We don't have to be like the NBA here.

My vote is for Phoenix Thunderbirds (also currently the name of a civic organization in the Valley).

Also: Valley of the Sun FC (think: Queen of the South FC in Scotland)
